Be prepared to have your schedule change without notice, never be given travel time and be grateful if you get time to eat in your 8hr shift, sure they tell you go ahead have a break then your working well past your 8hr commitment. Oh and they can book you up to 2 hrs past your commited time. Yes there will be days your schedule won't be full then there will be other times that by the time your day off comes your burnt out from the back to back client schedule that's the days you won't get a break but that's ok you had a break yesterday so you don't need to have one today. Your told on your frist day to work with scheduling but be prepared for snippy attitudes when you call to address your schedule and they will book you back to back even if there is an hour drive between client's but then not tell the client you have an hour drive when client's call in even after you advised the client of your arrival time the client will be angry because they were told differently be scheduling. Your expected to shorten clients visits 10 mins except for your last visit. Overall it's a frustrating job with unnecessary stress. The company needs to reduce job stress and can but chooses not to.

Scheduling is atrocious. If you’re new, you’ll be stuck on split shifts working days and evenings, but if you’re on your day rotation and a holiday falls on your day rotation, you’re automatically stuck on an evening shift and then back in in the morning all because you were new.  In the evenings, you can have anywhere up to 11 to 12 people to see with no drive time in between and the route never makes sense. You could end up downtown for one client then to the other side of town for the second and then back to the original area, where your first client was with no drive time. Your schedule is constantly changing. You won’t get a break a lot of the times and if you do have a half hour break it’s spent driving from one into town to the other so you don’t really get to sit down and enjoy a meal or forget about work because you’re driving to your next client. I have actually lost a lot of weight because I don’t have time to have a break. You also go into some pretty bad places with roaches. Also, if you are a CCA don’t expect to be doing your actual job that you were trying to do because most of it is housekeeping and meal prep if you value your sanity and your health, I would recommend not working for Northwood home care

A typical day at work for me was diffrent with each client , Some of my clients were bedridden dealing with multiple sclerosis which we had to sometimes do ROM exercises if needed.Others had dementia/alzheimer`s/Parkinson`s disease ect. I learned alot from each of my clients ,some history about the way things used to be as most of my clients were elderly. The hardest part of my job was not because of the physical aspect of the job but because I would get to no each client as i was there on a day to day basis and they became part of my life ,and i enjoyed seeing them and spending time with them and putting a smile on there face so i must say the hardest part of my job was when one of my clients passed away. The most enjoyable part of my job was getting to know each client personally and hearing all the storys that they had to tell about what they did in there life....Co workers - I worked in a home care setting there for I did not get the chance to work side by side with any of my coworkers unless it was a supervised visit which happened every so often.

Working at Northwood for the past 24 years has provided me with opportunities to develop current registration/educational requirements needed to maintain the evolving role of the LPN.

As Northwood is a large facility, staff have the opportunity to become involved in numerous committees/programs that keeps them more closely involved with one another as well as our residents outside of regular work hours and daily duties.

The most enjoyable part of my job at Northwood was without a doubt the residents.  So many faces, and so many wonderful stories.  With the majority of the residents being seniors, their life stories have been both sad and inspiring.  Respect for our seniors and the contributions they have made to our current life styles and freedoms gave me a gratitude that enhances my job as a LPN.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
High expectations to complete a full workload but constantly working short staffed.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The morale of various departments depends on either positive or negative support from senior or supervisory staff. 
Culturally very diverse, certain  upper management can show cultural favoritism regarding applications in different job postings.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Mostly positive interactions with residents.  Avoiding the toxic, pretentious, senior staff members.

About 80% of the upper management and middle management are very out touch or out of the loop about the issues faced by the employees, which is reflected in a lot of the organizational decisions. Communication can be very frustrating at times and feedback given to the company by employees is not always taken as seriously as it should. 
Your experience really comes down to who you work closely with - coworkers and manager. I had a manager when I worked there...who played favourites and wrote up certain people for fake reasons and let others get away with stealing. When she left and a new manager came in, it improved greatly. Just know it can be a great place to work, but be aware who your manager is and how they act will be the real determining factor. 

My first few years at this job I was head Administrator for the Nursing Department.  I was responsible for all office administration for the entire Nursing department. I then had my first baby and left the nursing department and transferred into the Staffing Office for the Nursing department as Senior Staffing Coordinator. I learned much in this position. How to juggle work schedules and keep within Union rights for Nurses, LPN's and PCW's.  My co-workers with excellent and all enjoyed working together.  The hardest part of this job was filling in positions with lack of qualified staff.  Most enjoyable part of this job was doing the same thing.

Not working there anymore.   They treat employees like trash

They are always understaffed in every department.  They have too many ppl who are not properly trained.    They treat employees terribly 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Negative.   Stressful    The supervisors don’t care about what goes on.  They care even less about morale.   And they don’t care about the residents 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long.   Hectic and dirty.   Usually we are out of at least one thing like milk every day

One the best Company I have worked with. Northwood value their employees and their pay rates and benefits are outstanding. With good working environment and friendly management team Northwood was no 1 employer in Atlantic area in 2022.

No stress at all. Good staffing which reduces the work load of staffs.

Steady hours, steady pay, union protections and benefits

Being forced to make bad food out of cheap ingredients, watching hundreds of pounds of food be wasted everyday, working short, management hiding in their offices with the doors closed pretending everything is alright.

Bitter, entitled, compartmented

Same routine day after day.  4 hrs of work in an 8 hr shift. I could do it with my eyes closed.
