I can literally write a novel about the incompetencies of this corporation. To summarize it, they were a family business turning into a corporation and a lot of titles opened up this new structure. The amount of backstabbing and sabotage I have witnessed is absurd. 

As a General Manager, I received absolutely no support from the VP of Operations at the time. Even after reaching out to the CEO to discuss neglect of support to GMs, nothing happened. Everyone was too busy chasing those wonderful titles. 

After putting in 20 hours a day and an abundant amount of effort to get the hotel functioning, which turned out to be a fantastic and beautiful hotel with a comforting and exciting aura, I was let go by the VP of Operations for absolutely nothing. 

The VP of Operations was a snake who would sabotage the General Managers by always giving them warnings for doing stuff wrong, meanwhile, he was the one that was supposed to train us to do it his way but he did not. This was his way of securing his position because he was supposed to get the CEO position but they ended up hiring someone else from another hotel so the VP of Operations and the CEO ended up having a little heat between them. The rest of us had to suffer because we were being sabotaged and nobody was around to support us. 

It was the most uncomfortable company I have ever worked for and I will suggest to you to not work here. Your life will be abused because you are on salary. I can go on and on about how anxiety-inducing the workplace is but I will end it here. I am sure you get the picture. 

The best part about the job will be some of the people you will get to meet. Not all of them will be good but if you're lucky like me you get to meet a couple really good people.

The 'senior leaders' apart from one always more concerned with who sucked up most to their boss. It was very shocking to see the same thing played out day after day and for the senior manager to be so unaware and unprofessional. She blew my mind with her blissfully unaware attitude.

Everyone is expected to clock into work early and clock out exactly at their end of shift and not a minute later because overtime is never approved even with a good reason. If you work overtime because it was busy they will tell you that you should of abandoned your co-worker and got away from the front to leave even if it was busy. 

A manager lied and blamed their staff and said it was the front desk who mixed up the guest reservation when the computer clearly marked it with their name. This is business as usual within the hotel. When it becomes busy the managers all hide away into their office space. 

No manager tries to teach the staff here and will rely on staff to teach others how everything works because the managers really do not know anything aside from being sneaky and sucking up.

The company itself it’s not ran like any other hospitality organization.  They do not follow industry standard practices, but rather try to create their own.  The turnover for front level staff and managers is the highest I’ve seen in my career.  There is nothing done for staff appreciation, birthdays, Christmas parties, anniversaries, are all non existent.  Their medical benefits are expensive and lack coverage.  One of the biggest complaints you will hear from your coworkers is the lack of merit increases, with some staff working 5+ years and only receiving 0.50 merit increases.   Staff are not given the tools to do their job properly, resulting in multiple staff bringing equipment from home to do their jobs, never have I seen housekeeping staff having to bring their personal vacuums to do their job.  

If you are a professional, who cares about the industry, who believes in the practices developed by the industry, then this is not a place for you.  Nothing is done by the book, they are trying to write their own, which is not working.  Too many failing properties being kept up by their busy properties, while the staff at the busy properties are not being taking care of.  

I really miss working in the accounting team for Nova Hotels! I didn't have much interaction with much of the other management, but the president did invite head office staff and upper management on monthly get togethers for food and drinks. I thought this was a great team building exercise and eased people from work stress before kicking off to a long weekend, so I really appreciated the workplace culture.

I really liked that the accounting department worked as a "team" in which we could bounce ideas off each other or help one another when stuck. We took turns buying chocolates and candies and also coffee for each other because we all needed brain food in the office with the occasional lunch days where we would all decide to go out or order in too.

Deadlines would only get stressful when we fell short on time due to holidays or missing team members on vacation, but for the most part, it was steady-paced and not too stressful. Everyone was always willing to help out if someone fell behind.

I worked for Nova hotels first in 2016 then again in 2018. I loved the front office managers. It was them why I stayed as long as I did because they allowed flexibility within the schedule and any issues that came up they found a solution to and helped with extra training. As for over time if it was offered you'd be paid for it. If it wasn't then you're SOL yet expected to be 15 minutes early for your shift. Head office didn't do much to show appreciation for their employees. I know of some who have worked here for over 10+ yrs and only received a "raise" when minimum wage went up. Others had to wait 6 months to hear back on a 10 cent raise after working there for 4 years. They give a discount at their restaurant, which is overly priced as it is anyways but have the option of free soup and coffee/drinks all day. Their benefits are okay, but considering you're staring at a computer screen for 8 hrs a day you'd think they would at least included vision. I do not recommend anyone working for this company. 

I was working there as maintenance technician few years ago and the worst part is that novas hotel business heavily relies on a foreign workers to support their business which they tend to abuse to the maxx, quite often holding someones working permit as a form of barganing chip if they by any means show their dissatisfaction. 
The worst part of the job was that you had 3 managers (housekeeping, maintenance and general) dictating you what and how to do and quite often contradict each other in their decisions which will impact your work bcs no matter what you do one side won't be satisfied
They expect you to be on call 24/7 without pay, and just to write hour or so ot once you get there to do the actual work

I work full 8 hours per shift, and everyday is not the same. Lots of opportunity to learn and grow at the front desk. The people I work with are all professionals.The Director of Operation is a down to earth, soft spoken,  nicest boss I've ever work for. She manages all hotels including ours very hands on and I like it that way. We have challenges in our department but Nova is always there for us.  Full support from the head office for the betterment of our brand.This company gives wonderful opportunity to their staff including career advancement within our department which builds employee loyalty and job satisfaction.

Management has changed since I worked here, but there are so many deep seated issue’s within the company.

If I could describe the culture of this company in one word it would be condescending. 

You will never be paid what your worth in this company, pay raises are basically non-existent. Supervisor positions often only have a 50 cent raise. And benefits are basically non-existent. 

I was there for one week. I found the supervisor who trained me was really lazy n aloof. The staff were very clique and didn't really train me thoroughly. One girl called in sick on my second day and threw me to the wolves. On my roe they stated I was terminated when I quit and even sent a message stating I'm no longer interested in being employed there. I was within my probation period and did not need to give her 2 weeks.
