This company had everything backward. I was hired, directed and planed out scheduled. But when this plan was put into action, none of it was what they told me originally. I was instructed I would be operating a grader maintaining ice roads and flown into camp, operating day shift after receiving my orientation. Flight took 2.5 hours, and drive took over 13 hours after that, so after landing and driving over 13 hours to camp, foreman pressured me into working the same night I arrived. I explained to the foreman that wasn't a safe idea due to the fact of traveling for more then 15 hours with no rest, the foremans response was that everyone did It, everyone travelled to work for 14 hours then worked a 12 hour night shift. I told the foreman no! After he tried guilting me into it 3 times and me saying no 3 times, they told me they had nothing for me and were going to fly me out. I refused unsafe work, so they sent me back home?!?! Saying they had nothing for me?!? Why hire anyone if your going to have leaders that will break the law to meet production? Or cut corners by not orientating people before work is to commence. This place had little to no management in their supervisors. It is not a place I would go back to without safety in writing first. Once I got home then they told me I quit?!? I did not quit, I did what I have skill in. I was obligated to refuse unsafe work. They asked me to commute for 15 hours, then work 12 hours at the same night in a place I have never been before, operating a plow truck on thin ice with no medics or ambulance In the area. Needless to say, driving over thin ice can be nerve racking on its own but doing it in the dark, with no way out of the work area other then driving, and our entire work force is building the ice roads. This process is a disaster waiting to happen, the question I had the first day up there, was how many lost their lives up there for the gold and diamonds, just to build the road in every year. It's a experience I will never go back to, I've been in construction for 38 years, and these guys don't believe in safety at all.

The role was a 'ground up creation'. Previous to my arrival the company  was a small to mid level construction company with very little EHS exposure.  Company realized to get better, more work their safety program including health management, hygiene and safety management required a lot of work.  

From a 3.9 TRIF down to a 1.8 in less than 3 years showed desire and want to get better.

With several 'major' program creations, upper management support and desire to succeed the company was driven to adopt and utilize programs such as Drug and Alcohol, Return to work, Risk Management including better inspection protocols, including operating procedures, maintenance and mechanical procedures, Risk assessments and Task specific hazards assessments to the ground personnel accepting change that included field level risk assessments, safety observations on peers and equipment to quantifying leading indicators and the recognition of how important they are to an overall EHS program!  Additionally the desire to remove personnel who were holding up change made the road to its success less bumpy.

Co-workers were one dimensional, focused only on their departments.  This slowly changed but made work environments difficult at times.

Most enjoyable part is watching the plan come together, everything newly developed and implemented is working as designed and seeing how the workers responded to the consistent yet very transparent program coming together.

There was noting hard about the job.  Always challenging and very dynamic.  I never signed up for boring, I signed up to progress the company into something they did not even know they wanted until it was there.

Love the job, enjoy the company, the company will be successful if certain road blocks are removed.

I learned Word programs, procedures. knowledge of the mining industry, time management, office procedures, software programs,etc
Management could use better communication and listening skills. A bit top heavy in upper management (in my own opinion).
My coworkers were awesome and I miss them a lot.
The hardest part of my job was trying to prepare for new projects at the last minute without being informed in a timely manor when others were fully informed. The second hardest part of my job was not being "heard" by management when there were changes made without informing me. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was the versatility and creative allowance given to me for creating forms, logos as well as purchasing promotional and safety awards. The other enjoyment was interacting with vendors and employees on a daily basis.

A typical day at work consisted of working with forklifts, another co-worker, unloading and cleaning cargo containers for next shipment and packing and storing shipments inside the warehouse designated areas. Also one had to record shipments by writing down how many boxes were packed onto one skid and also take pictures of the shipment before unloading the boxes off of the truck.

I learned about job safety, time management, and being a team player. 

The management is helpful and great to talk too. Their hospitality is amazing. 

The co-workers almost make you feel like family, welcoming you with open arms, always encouraging you, helping you, laughing and talking with each other. 

The hardest part of the job was lifting the boxes because if it is not executed properly you can injure yourself or even another worker. 

The most enjoyable part about working there was the satisfaction of a  job well done as you look back at your empty container. Also working and hanging out with fellow co-workers.

Nuna has been one of the better companies I have supervised for. 

A typical day would be meeting up with the superintendent,  engineers,  client,  survey etc to discuss ongoing and outlook prior to the crew showing up.

  With my 25+ years of experience it easy to see who's all in and who's b.s

The P.M had little man syndrome 

Crew & rest of the team were fine.
  Hard parts of the job was waiting on parts & repairs being so remote.  Communication could have been better on that end.  Parts sitting while we needed them shipped. 

Most enjoyable,  the team was pretty solid 
The location was great able to take in the surroundings unlike other projects where you aren't allowed to wonder around camp.

I do think the H.R department plays favorites on their process.   I could call in to check on projects and she gives me a bogus answer.. meanwhile management on site gives me the real news.  And yes she's aware of it.

Becoming a multi operator, gaining experience, on call when jobs availability open and answered for jobs

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Don't recall getting stressed at but wage losses doing the same operation was displeased. Working throughout nwt to nunavut I enjoyed.

Worked with many coworkers including the supervisor years back and different companies was great to see and work with again

Walk in the park. Knowing what you can do and if short handed until rotation personal shows up, I have been asked to do until then and answered

Made some great friends here, most of whom I still keep in touch with. Other then that not much els3 to say.

A particular Superintendent was a complete idiot.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was okay but could've been improved upon by hiring the right people and keeping them there. Went thru to many awesome foremans because of 1 particular Superintendent who should've been fired way before everyone else left.

It was day to day. We were always quite busy to say the least. Some more then others.

From supervisors down as a heavy equipment operator I really enjoyed working for Nuna logistics. They give you proper training because they have hired trainers that are willing to show you the ropes. Project coordinators and managers are good, but the superintendents or as I say stooperintendents are clueless and gutless when it comes to standing up for their employees, other then GUMBEY Nuna is a great place to work atmosphere wise. The wage could be higher and your usually in a remote location. But  only doing 2 weeks in 2 weeks out flights and hotels are paid and 12 hours paid travel each way

It was often expressed to me, by multiple employees, that Nuna Logistics is an amazing company to work for. Unfortunately you would never know that to be true if newly hired on the Timmins Project. Reason being is the hostile joint venture with North American. If you’re hired by Nuna as an operator, foreman, gf, superintendant, in operations or maintenance department, and if sent to Cote Gold, know that you’ll be actually working for North American, and under North Americans brutally ancient and toxic culture.

good people to work with but their is always one bad apple in the barrel

dealing with one supervisor was a challenge but everything else was good

12 hour shift, starts with a tool box meeting then getting tasking then go to work  with good coms available for any questions or more information
