If you want to be good at your job....dont work here...you wont be able to do your job well and the 3 other jobs they give you as staff. Worst site I have ever been on. Like the Beverly hillbillies. They had money when potash prices were driven up. Completed projects to 90% then never followed up on the details that keep you running long term and without having to put out fires daily. Always lacking spare parts. Not one single person dedicated to reliability of the plant. Catastrophic failures that management looks at and says huh....should have seen that. How do you not expect a fiberglass tank that runs 24hrs a day 300days a year at 90deg C not to fail...after 15 year of service and no real inspections or Maintenance...finding out later that there were flaws in it along with the lack of integrity surveys by someone that actually know these tanks....noooo let's figure that out after it failed and nearly causes a fatality.....who's fault? Nobody... The plant is falling apart around them and they wont make efforts to improve reliability. Any improvement is to be made are assigned to someone that already has too much on their plate. Hey you have two full time jobs...how bout a little more....we know you cant do any of them properly but it's your responsibility and if things go wrong it's on you. As a staff person you wont even be given a job description....so they can pile more work and responsibilities on you without any recourse...you dont like it...leave...you dont feel it's safe to be doing all of this and none of it well...leave.. Staff constantly fears for their job so they wont say no to additional duties or responsibilities or raise concerns about it. They pay well and expect you to give up your life for that and your sanity. The Maintenance and Engineering departments should be called the Firefighting and contracting out management department. The Maintenance Superintendent is more concerned about lights out and tripping hazards that machine integrity and Preventative Maintenance his title should be OHC chair. Not Maintenance and Engineering super. Place is hands down the most dysfunctional plant I have ever had the pleasure of setting foot on....I have been to over a dozen.....if it wasnt for a few dedicated smart and critical people at Nutrien Cory the place would be a goner. Culture is terrible and the management eats their own. No support only lip service, no backing the non union employees they are disposable and anytime for any reason to make management look like they are in control. A 20k pay cut and working anywhere else is well worth it...they are cutting their benefits as well so pay soon wont be a reason to work there either. You will make good overtime....only because you will be doing the job of 3 people.

was hired to work at Nutrien for my summer internship and I'm just gonna jump into what was good about it, then tell you about why it's not the most exciting opportunity. 

The work-life balance is great, 4 10 hour work days is a pretty great schedule. Can't complain about that. There are a lot of perks of working there such as

1. Meaningless celebrations: you get snacks and some break time to celebrate milestones that are pretty much meaningless to yourself and everybody else. 

2. The training for the first 2 weeks is pretty dry and pointless but the guys they hire to provide the training are beauty's so it totally makes up for it.

3. Free stuff (even more free stuff if you're engineer which I was not). Sometimes Nutrien will provide lunch and snacks at their meetings (mostly for the engineers though), you will get showered in Merchandise such as free coffee mugs, jackets, laptops, etc.

4. Staff can be kinda nice I guess. It's really no different than any other place you work at. There's people you like and don't like. 

Okay now to dive into Nutriens negative traits. 

1. Even though I was given a lot of free things throughout my work term, those gifts feel empty because I was never really helped by management. This is my biggest beef with Nutrien, when I completed training I was given a project that would last the whole summer. I had to windows 10 image laptops and desktops and deploy the hardware, that was it. I was pretty much just given this boring task and then never really interacted with management. I never really learned anything this summer, I was really hoping for the opportunity to expand my skills this summer, but I never really was able to because this stupid windows 10 project took so much of my time. 

I understand somebody has to do those stupid projects and yeah it should probably be the students, but the fact that I never really did anything outside of that really bothers me. 

2. Elitist culture: Some guys their think just because we work at Nutrien that we have "made it" and they try to fear monger you into coming back when your work term is done or staying forever LOL

Overall this is a very meh position. Come Down to Nutrien Rocanville for a few months to get your foot in the door then drop it like it's hot. Would not recommend staying here long term. Working at Nutrien is a short term solution to a long term problem.

I was here as a student in the summer internship program, my experience is only for 4 months. The manager care about you, care about your success, well-being and work-life balance. He guided me from day 1 of orientation and treat me as part of the team, not just a number. He asked me the 2nd day something along the line "how was your first day :)". At this location (Portage la Prairie), the team is small so you know everyone really well. Coworkers are supportive, great teamwork! When I did not understand something, people are willing to go beyond their means to make sure I do it correctly and most importantly, safely. No politics, no discrimination, no drama, no all that craps. One time, they let us go home early with full-day pay due to a rainstorm. This shows that they care about its people, and for a full-time employee, overtime is 1.5X wages. This is a Canadian Ag corporate company, so there is a clear structure from the top all the way down. Great pay for an intern. 

The organization structure is very neat, because, during my internship, I received conference training and conference training from the head office (Saskatoon) although I am at Portage. They gave presentations to students like me on potential career prospects after graduation etc... There are Q&A sessions online with the head office during my orientation. That is really useful!
My manager sometimes asked on my first week of intern "Hey! is everything alright? how was your first day?". Each month, I was assigned different types of works from truck loading, paperwork, cleaning the office 3 - 4 times a week but within schedule, so it is not random (everything is structured well). If I give them advice or input, they received it well and they discuss them during the daily meeting the next morning!
Although, one employee is brand new and I did not get along with her, neither her with the rest of the crew. Maybe she needs adjustment in the work culture.

No wonder, Nutrien is chosen as the top 100 Employers in Canada in 2020.

PotashCorp used to be one of the best companies to work for in Saskatoon.  It felt like a true Saskatchewan company, very close-knit, hard, proud workers.  The "merger" or what most internal people call it,  the takeover by Agrium destroyed everything PotashCorp was.  Bringing in Management from outside of the Province (Calgary, the real Headquarters) who don't understand the "Saskatchewan way".  It's now like any other large company from a large city outside of Saskatchewan.  Profits and Cost Savings "Synergies" are more important than the people.  Luckily I've managed to survive the bloodshed in job losses, however I've heard via reliable sources that a great percentage of the IT department was outsourced to India and that most of the Execs live and work from Calgary.  Other rumblings are that there will be another round of cuts in the near future.  Other departments include Finance, HR, etc.  Just wait for the sites to get hit too.  If you're looking for a long term place to stay I'd stay clear of this mess.  I don't know who I feel more for, those of us who kept our jobs or those who were offered packages.  Regardless, I, among many others are looking to leave this place as it's just not worth the misery of always looking over your shoulder and worrying about your future.  PotashCorp WAS the gem of Saskatchewan, but was unfortunately wiped out in the blink of an eye!

Senior Leadership underground at this site doesn't seem to know what they are doing, shooting from the hip, lots of chaos. Which speaks to the under qualified people running the underground. Seems to be an "old boys club" that are making the decisions. Seeing a lot of good qualified staff and union people being escorted out the door.  Site management seems to be focused on running an authoritarian management style. Manage with fear and intimidation in the name of safety seems to be their motto. Sure I believe this site cares about safety but uses it too much to ram other agendas through. This site pre-merger used to be a great site to work at, had a community feel to it. Now it is very corporate and cold, it doesn't matter how many years of service you have they don’t care, you are just a number in the grand scheme of things. I would recommend staying far away from this site for awhile, unless you like being intimidated by someone who doesn't have the qualifications or professionalism for the job they are in. Until the old boys club gets cleaned out, it isn’t going to get better.

For my interview, they sent me questions to answer to a video recording system. 
Cons of interview: Instead of being able to talk to a real person, I was kind of treated as a robot. Strikes me as kind of lazy on their part in the recruiting process, and with no opportunity to ask them questions. They say it may seem awkward at first to stare into the dot of your webcam and answer all the questions pretending someone is on the other end (just like a traditional interview they conjecture), but that you will get used to it....lol, right! I guess their idea of efficiency for recruiting humans is to remove their humans altogether. They say to remember that employers hire human beings and not just the name at the top of a resume...lol. They should take a dose of their own rationale....employees like to work for real people, not just absentee employers.
Pros: With this format, at least I knew the questions ahead of time that they were going to ask. At least they got back to me quickly after the interview.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The is constantly investing in new technologies, allowing you to be in contact with new trends and talented people. You also may have some international exposure. The organizational culture promotes a healthy environment and stimulates coworkers to care for each other. Overall, it is an amazing organization to work for. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything is huge, and you have lots of responsibilities on the plate. It may seem overwhelming, but once you get the processes, it's manageable. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is really collaborative and inclusive. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My experience was mostly working remotely. But the interactions wil depend on the segment you work for. You always have something to do. It's a fast-paced environment, but with not excessive pressure.

No real concern about the future from the leadership at this company.  Reliability on a downhill slope, dismissed 70% of the safety group that struggled against managements desire to drive false metrics.  The worst culture of any company I’ve ever worked for.  Managers bounce from chair to chair, hacking and slashing as they go leaving workers and staff frustrated as they ladder climb to the security of the corporate office.  
New philosophy is to run-to-failure (real statement from leaders) so things obviously come apart daily in unpredictable ways.  Mines branch has them on a watch list for a reason.  Many people stressed and spend time in therapy wondering how this can happen . The money is good but people are so unhappy that it drains you, toxic culture where even good people get polluted. Wow, is this really how the company wants culture?

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of diversity and non educated /non qualified people in important roles

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Small town thinking. White american "culture". Slow paced and minimal competition. Not a great place to grow if you are ambitious

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Too many meetings, not enough actual work getting done. The culture here is to book meetings about everything, but people don't like to have impromptu meetings and be called on teams in the moment. They keep you at an arm's length and make you book time in advance, and want calendars to be full. It is not an effective results-condusive culture.

Overall a good job to have, Things have been complicated after the merger and many were let go but things are starting to smooth out and it's not a bad place to be. I think it depends on location a lot and if you're in the retails or cooperate offices. But in my office the management it average, there is flexibility. Safety is a high priority and there are lots of opportunities to advance your training and learning. Pay an benefits are good... but calgary office has it way better. Office moral is average, and is pretty cliquey and there are really no perks like free lunches, snacks, a social committee or anything anymore... heck we don't even have a planning committee to have a Christmas party this year. The biggest down side is that I was not informed of all the work travel I would have to be doing when I signed up for the job.
