OZ Optics

Most of supervisors and managers  have no university knowledge. The work atmosphere is not good for PhD or MSc graduates, because the wrong management system, does not let them to express their creativity and their new ideas. 
 This is  is  waste of time for educated people to stay permanently at this company. A "photonics  engineer", or "fiber optic engineer" is not doing engineering work in OZ optics. His /Her duty indeed is assembly work. The reality is that ~90% of engineers and scientists doing assembly of the products ,not engineering of the products. 
Most of the components manufactured in OZ optics had been design many years ago.There is no innovation, no new products .The R&D is done by a few people on very specific products , like sensors. There is no professional production line. 

The work atmosphere is very stressful. The schedulers are very rude . Bully behavior of the superiors is very common. The managers are often nervous. Everything is in  RUSH in OZ optics.

I had a really good experience working at Oz Optics. I was young when I worked there and looking back feel like they are like the ex girlfriend that got away.. They say you never know what you have til its gone, and I feel that way about Oz Optics. They had so many great things for the employees. For example, a free meal every week. Shuttle buses to help people commute to and from work. Accessibility to indoor sporting functions, soccer leagues, all kinds of workout rooms, prayer rooms, fun family days with blow up castles and bbqs.. so many perks. They even had an easter egg hunt all around the grounds, paying out upwards of $20 per egg!! But it wasnt even about the money per egg, looking back just seeing how it made a great working environment, and great relations between co-workers.. Like I said earlier, the one that got away.. lol

Just a warning sign for future employees. Everyone's trying to get out, including me. It doesn't have any room for advancement, even though you do a great job over the time. People at supervisor, manager posts have been siting there for more than 8-10 years, so chances of advancement from current position is near to zero. 
It is good if you are joining for few years to get experience. I got in to get some experience for Immigration purposes and have been trying to get out as everyday you work for more than 10-11 hours and there is no room for advancement. And yeah the place runs on politics. I stay clear of that, last thing you need is to get stuck in it. 
But yeah, that was my review. There are others too.

I have been at OZ Optics since 1998, started as junior administrator.
Over the years, company helped me take a lot of training, now being a manager, I can say that OZ Optics values loyalty and hard work. It is a fast paced but family oriented manufacturing company, where I feel as if I am being part of a family. 

This is the reason why I am still at OZ Optics (20 years)

Most enjoyable is the diversified people's culture employed in the company and everyday working with the same people learning new and similarities in your way of life. New employee are trained or have experience on specific position. A typical day at work is much encouraging to me because of our present situation of the pandemic. Over -all it is good to be here and working.

Many great people work at OZ Optics that are intelligent and dedicated to doing a good job. The management is not good, there is no trust and no room for advancement.

So many nice people work there....but the management is awful. Weekly meeting to get yelled at. 44+ hours a week with not breaks. Lunch room was taken away and the lunch room was moved to a locker room. Learned a lot there, but there was no room for moving up in the company.

Western was a excellent place to work. Great atmosphere, surrounded by amazing people, I always felt welcome. Its a very rewarding place to work and has alot to offer. They have a great training program and offer the ability to further benefit your career.

Very stressful work environment. If you can cope with negativity then the work is very secure. HR depart is very lacking, not interested in employee side. Not very progressive with modern work practices.

I learned several techniques for troubleshooting Virtual Machines and data servers. Most enjoyable part of the job was the diversity of tasks that where assigned to me. They ranged from working on optical devices to technocal programs on the computer such as Matlab, Labview, and various others.
