I am proud to say I worked in Oakville Hospital. It was a pleasure to work with a such great team for a last 14 years .It was a great place to work. It was a family atmosphere. The teamwork was amazing. My managers were very supportive .  On surgical unit -  every day was a new day and exciting different challenge. The sad and hardest part was when patient  had a pain I couldn't give him "painkiller " right away  without doc. order. And of course to see dying patient and his surrounding family/friends made me always cry and sad. The great/ enjoyable days I will always remember. When patients states "I am glad that you are my nurse today", or "your pain pills working perfect, thank you"  or patient  who was discharge home - is feeling good and smiling. I think that the patients smiles and hugs  are  THE BEST  pay for a nurses.  I was the one of RN who could spend 12 hrs doing everything for my patients. To have a great coworkers and so supportive bosses  as a nurse I always could give the best care for patients .  My passion for nursing is still just as strong as  was 30 years ago.

Hospital leadership prioritizes optics of care above actual care, at least in some units. Management has been unpredictable and non trustworthy, again, at least in some units. In those same units, management feigns valuing collaborative input from staff, and really just pushes forward their original agenda from the beginning.
Some very dedicated coworkers who go above and beyond, with others exceedingly burned out but continuing to meet with patients without management support; the sick treating the sick.
Good compensation and benefits, with an in-house gym adequate to most folks.
Not much opportunity for advancement.
Sressful work but rewarding and satisfying when you see patients benefit from our dedication and efforts.
Some good friends made on unit as shifts can be long.
Enter into this institution with realistic expectations and continuously establish clear work-life boundaries.



A day at work is very fast paced and always changing. The ongoing challenges make you think on your feet and use all your skills, making this workplace the perfect venue to learn and grow. 

Management is very supportive, always ensuring staff are adequately trained and prepared for each day at work. In addition, the highly knowledgeable staff look out for one another, transforming the workplace into a positive place to build quality skills. 

The hardest day at work would require all of your problem solving skills, creativity and patience. Once again the ongoing changes require you to be very adaptable to any situation, and always ensure you are providing top quality care/service. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to see the difference your actions and quality care make. The best part of this job is you get to use all your skills while collaborating with others, all working towards a greater goal.

Check in at he EVS DEPARTMENT,  pick up your phone, iPad, keys, assignment sheet, and proceed to your designated unit. You are trusted to complete your assigned tasks, and help others when your area is slow, or you finish early. You're encouraged to take your breaks, and the supervisors are all pretty helpful. I do feel that whatever the assignment is, there is too much work to complete thoroughly,  and I always feel like I could have done more, or I could have worked faster. I do love cleaning,  and it's a wonderful, modern, clean facility,  which let's you feel as though you are making a difference. 

Honestly, i cant say enough good about this hospital. Its magnificent. I miss it every day. The staff are fun, and pleasant to be around, almost always willing to lend a hand. There were no psw's when i worked there (unsure of now) so helping one another was a must. The management here was untouchable, flexible with shifts, genuinely cared about you are a person and your family, supportive, jumped in to help all the time, cared about the patients. I had both good experiences and bad experiences with patient populations here, but 100% of the time, management had your back and supported you. Plus the hospital is absolutely gorgeous, and offers staff a lot of perks (lounge rooms, colouring rooms, massages, puppy play days, gym, library, pharmacy, etc) 

What is the best part of working at the company?
My patients,  they are the best part of my day!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The hospital REFUSES to sit down with the union. We are without a contract and they refuse to give us a raise!!!! Soooo greedy! Without Nurses, the hospital wouldn't exist!!! Pay us RPNs what we are worth!! Terrible!!!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is different everywhere you work! Some great, some awful! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not bad, every day is different.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I've  worked in an acute care medical nephrology/Neurology  floor. Patient care is my priority, dealing with critical pts. I am a good  team player, and able to teach students as well as new RNs.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with patients families is the most stressful part of my job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We  have a good team  work, able to work with different  nationalities. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy with patient care. I have a good experience when it comes to bedside  nursing care.

Depends really on the unit you are, there are units that are like families, they decorate for the holidays and it gives you a real sense of community. But there are other units where it’s not fully staffed so you get a lot of float nurses so it ends up being an isolating work day. The doctors are usually very nice, however they always make you feel bad for paging them. In the ICU though where the doctors are on unit, it’s amazing. All the equipment is new and top of the line. Management is pretty hands off, which is nice. But there is a lack of appreciation you feel. 

Very good working environment with staff very cooperative and understanding, 
Moderate amount of work with 6 patient assignment for night shifts and 4 patient assignment for day shifts
New state of the art building and new equipment
Supportive and understanding management (but they don't give jobs to their students)
Worked as a student, experienced excellent opportunity to learn

Rotated between Mental Health, Outpatient Diagnostics, and General Medicine
•	Mental health assessments
•	Assisted in developing and maintained care-plans 
•	Developed therapeutic relationships, assisted clients with personal hygiene and feedings
•	Skin care, medication administration, interpretation of laboratory values, foot care and wound care
•	Catheter insertions and accompanied clients to tests and programs
