If I could give a negative rating, I would. Working at The Hamlets at Penticton was an absolute travesty. The environment is rife with toxic behavior, characterized by incessant gossip, underhanded tactics, and a level of drama that is simply unacceptable in any professional setting. The staff here seem more interested in undermining each other and spreading misinformation than in contributing constructively to their roles.

The most egregious issue is the management’s alarming propensity to accept and act upon every trivial and unverified complaint made against employees. There is a disturbing lack of due diligence in addressing these accusations, leading to a culture where falsehoods and personal vendettas are allowed to dictate workplace dynamics. This unchecked behavior creates a hostile environment where professional integrity is sacrificed on the altar of unfounded grievances.

The management’s failure to address these issues reflects a gross inadequacy in leadership. Rather than fostering a respectful and professional work culture, they have inadvertently endorsed a climate of dysfunction and animosity. The result is an atmosphere that is not only detrimental to employee morale but also profoundly damaging to overall productivity and job satisfaction.

If you value a respectful, supportive, and professionally sound work environment, I strongly advise you to avoid The Hamlets at Penticton. The current state of affairs is a testament to a severe mismanagement of workplace culture and human resources. This institution should be critically reviewed for its inability to maintain even the basic standards of professionalism and decency

I've been working at Optima Living for about 3 months now, and it's been an incredibly positive experience. One of the things I appreciate most about this company is the culture and the people. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported. The training I received was thorough, and I was given tasks that allowed me to grow into my role at my own pace. What stood out to me was how patient and understanding the team was during my onboarding process, always offering guidance and checking in to make sure I was comfortable with my responsibilities.

The work environment is very collaborative, and everyone is genuinely helpful. I never feel like I’m on my own if I have a question or need assistance. This has made my experience much more enjoyable and has helped me build confidence in my work.

Additionally, the management team is fantastic. They’re always encouraging employees to explore different aspects of the business and to try new things, which I find inspiring. This culture of empowerment has made me feel like there are always opportunities to grow and develop within the company, both professionally and personally.

Overall, it is a wonderful place to work. The positive work culture, supportive colleagues, and forward-thinking management make it a rewarding environment where employees can truly thrive. I’m excited to continue contributing and learning here!

My experience with Optima living in Duncan has had a rocky start. I took an evening line (1500-2300), and with very little orientation I was thrown right in to the work with way too much expected of someone who had this as their choice for their first HCA job and at time of review this is what I would expect for any new employee employed for evening shifts at this time.  This is due the place being under staffed and overworked, if there was a way to start keeping employees, I think there is a lot of groundwork that could be improved but without the staff that is difficult dynamic to change. 

I hope the management team and get organized and have a plan that not only hires people, as that has been happening adequately, but also keeps people wanting to keep working here, which is not happening. I’m not sure what is the best plan for that, but I really hope there is a plan in motion. If the staffing situation gets sorted out, this could be a wonderful place to work.

That being said, I think there is a lot of good here too, the majority of co-workers I’ve worked with are hard workers who are doing their best for the residents given the circumstances, and the facility itself gives the residents rooms that are smooth to work in if properly prepared. There is also many recreation spaces on a floor to spread residents out in if needed.

I’ve been working at Optima Living for 5 years, and it’s been a truly rewarding experience. As a Recreation Manager, I’m given the creative freedom to design and implement programs that directly improve the lives of our residents. I would not recommend working at Evergreen Hamlets under Optima Living.

During my time there, I worked hard to improve resident satisfaction in my department, increasing it from approximately 40% to 80%. Despite these results, I was repeatedly told that I was not doing my job well, and my efforts were not recognized.

The workplace culture under the current General Manager felt toxic and heavily focused on micromanagement rather than supporting staff. Communication was poor, and employee concerns did not seem to be taken seriously.

What concerns me most is that my employment ended on May 22, and I am still waiting for my vacation pay. Multiple emails have been sent to Payroll, HR, and management, yet I have received lno response regarding when I will be paid.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this workplace. Employees deserve respect, support, and timely payment of wages and vacation pay.

Optima Living is a great place to work as the staff are friendly and supportive. Work-life balance is a plus too as having an employer who understands their employee’s personal needs aids staff retention.

Working day shifts seem to be fast paced as the day goes quick on busy floors, this requires being able to think critically and efficiently, which makes team work and a collaborative work environment essential - this holds true for majority of the time I have personally worked thus far, which is great but can grow tiring as staffing is always a pressing concern in this industry.

As a new facility, I believe there is always room for improvement.

As far as the benefits and other perks are concerned, the inclusion of employer matched RRSP after probation is a unique and excellent addition.
