In my last position at EnCana, I worked with a small group (7 people) in what was basically a new department set up to research the PanCanadian Heritage Royalties and verify that these royalties were being paid correctly and in a timely manner.

This department was newly created, as were the positions within it, so it was very exciting - a programmer created a program that linked the PCP leases and accounting information with various outside information programs (pipeline, online production data, etc.) from there, as I was the PA of the group, my responsibilities included reviewing volumetric, pricing and payment timeliness by vendor. Dependant on the outcome of the property review, decisions would be made.  For example, gas pricing was very high at that time, so the decision was usually to take-in-kind and market the gas within EnCana's own marketing department.

In our first year, this group recovered well over $40 million dollars in unpaid, incorrectly paid or by changing the marketing arrangements to EnCana's marketing their own product. 

It was a very rewarding experience, and with us being such a small group, we had a lot of fun but were able to get a lot done. We also had a good manager and a diverse group, so there was no competition or power tripping.  
Upper Management recognized our achievements and rewarded us accordingly.

It was a very enjoyable part of my time spent at EnCana.

My position was mostly customer service facing as I handled the travel needs of those going to the field or between our offices. I worked in an office at the Bow which has private offices and sky gardens where I would take my breaks. 
I learned a lot of useful skills considering I was only there for a 4-month internship, from basic travel arrangements to handling the budgeting and other administrative  tasks on a much larger scale. I even got the chance to explore event management which gave me the opportunity to meet and work with another great team within the company. 
I was apart of a very small team so my management was great. We had a really good relationship and my direct manager was very helpful, while also pushing me to learn as much as I could on my own. The culture is really respectful and everyone I met was super friendly. 
The hardest part of the job was that some days were really overwhelming, especially since it was a small team and we didn't always have the manpower, or every once in a while we would have to deal with a difficult vendor. 
The best part was easily the workplace culture. I made a lot of connections, both within my team and with the other student interns, and I really enjoyed my time at Ovintiv!

coordinate with sub contractors
ensure all materials are in place
ensure all (daily reports filled out in am before anything begins)
continue to monitor and communicate with contractor and sub contractors
ensure daily activities for the day have not changed and if so then a hazard assessment has to be done
permits on going, with sub contractors and third parties involved are covered and have had tail gate meetings
continue to organize through out the whole project, plan for the next day and discuss any issues with personal and contractors involved
daily reporting (engineering/coordinator)
signing off on invoices daily/coding and entering in required systems
continue with safety
ensure that budget and cost effectiveness is on time and if not explain in detail (why not)
driving safe to and from job site

My daily routine consisted of working with the Facility engineers in all aspects of the projects.
- AFE creation
- Assisted in creation of contracts and evaluated them
- Worked with Facility Engineers during pre planning phase to pick the best routes and dealt with Landowners as I scouted the project.
- Worked with the EPC companies to be certain they were providing accurate drawings as per Encana specifications.
- I sourced and ordered all materials for the projects after obtaining quotes and comparing costs and delivery times.
- During construction I supported the inspection team to be certain all Encana requirements were being met.
  While working with Encana I was able to learn the up front work that was involved on pipeline projects as well as facility projects .
   The 5 years I worked for Encana allowed me to have the opportunity to work both in the field as well as in the office. This was a great mix for me and I enjoyed the experience .

Calling the wellsite supervisors, engineers, and completions management.

Completing the programs that are provided from engineering group to complete the tasks needed in the field.

Dealing with the different groups involved in the completions activity (development, engineering, production, and HSE)

Learned how to manage and prioritize daily tasks.  Up to 8 wells per day to be completed meant a lot of activity in a short period of time.

Management was very task oriented while trying to maintain a safe work record in the field.

Co-workers were great for the most part.  Always ready to help.

Time management and dealing with none work related issues were the most difficult parts of the job.

The job was very satisfying when you could see the projects through to completion in a safe manner.

It is a large company, so I took advantage of the opportunities to learn about the company through lunch and learns. Salaries, benefits, and bonus are very fair. Easy to work from home should there be inclement weather to prevent you to get to the downtown office. Management is excellent to work with. 2 Fridays off each month.
I was very sad to leave due to downsizing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Atypical day was have Drilling operation Meetings, Engineer meetings on Laying out Drill times and Bench marks to meet. Learned how to manage large group of people and getting the job done in an timely matter. Learned how to Work as a team Mentor to set bench marks and follow up on progresses and failures and how to deal with time restraints. The hardest part of the job in Keeping people on track and time restraint . The most best part of the job is when you have achieved a benchmark and the team has pride to pat each one on the back for job well done. Team work is how work gets done.

I had fun during my time there. Although there were challenges at work, and some friction between team members: overall I learned a lot from the experience, and gained valuable teamwork and leadership skills. They take you seriously and give you an opportunity to function in a leadership capacity. I wish I could have taken the job a bit more seriously during my time there. Lots of responsibility. 

Very positive people and rewarding job as long as you got your work done you were rewarded for it and anything extra you did never went unnoticed. Great experience to be on a remote site and work with Helicopters snowmobiles and quads. Great back up for field operators as well as always someone willing to help.

Encana offered a wide range of career advancement opportunities and was very driven on helping their employees reach their career goals. Daily work was interactive, positively challenging and interesting. The workplace environment was driven, focused, and supportive. The hardest part of the job was...I can't think of a hard part. And the most enjoyable part was feeling satisfied and accomplished after each completed project!
