PREMIER RECYCLING

The job was easy enough but all the equipment was in constant disrepair (no heat or AC in machines, constant leaks/issues) often times as an operator there would be a lack of work to do (management) and you were then expected to become a labourer. Most of the co workers were a decent group of guys but felt like you were just a number if you weren’t in the clique of long term employees. Also some “high school” type drama amongst certain employees with no real solutions. Multiple co workers noted a lack of initial training on different materials and how to sort/where materials were supposed to go which led to a lot of turnover. The biggest issue I found was a lack of direction most days, you never knew what you’d be doing that day, management struggled. It was not a difficult job and enjoyable when you had specific work to do and everything ran smoothly. 

Workers were not aware they were cutting Asbestos wrapped pipe without proper PPE and it was being outside in the open air. Someone cutting steel up using torches that caused a flash explosion because the employee was not informed about the risk. There really arent any Health a safety standards other than watch out for machinery and vehicles. Shady characters bringing in scrap metal was always accepted and never questioned. I quit because of the questionable ethics of my employer.

Management is typical.
You are expendable and disposable and they will always remind you of that.
Constant safety and health violations and hazards which could easily be mitigated by proper procedure but Management likes to cut corners.
No room for career advancement and its a place to work only if you have hit rock bottom and nobody else will take you.
Seen many people come in and quit the first day because of the hostile environment.

Hours made it easy to have a social life and summer whilst still making money and working Monday-Friday. In addition the workload was well balanced and kept me well occupied throughout the shift making it feel quicker.

I thoroughly enjoyed this placement as it taught me a lot about customer service and helped me with my communication abilities. I grew stronger in my skills of computer management and mathematics.

Horrible management who fires people for no reason even after being there for years place is a joke no room for advancement if your not friends with management you are just a number

The job was very rewarding and interesting meeting new people everyday i  was very eager to learn new skills and information i enjoy the challenges   and the experience

I would say that this job is hard and dirty under the right management this company has the potential of becoming great, but stealing and not being honest with its customers has hurt them.

The job as a labourer at premier recycling is hard. Especially in the summer, you are usually outside all day cutting metal from different things like rads, boats, beams anything metal.
