Pearl And Pine Retirement

I have nothing but good things to say about the 5+ years spent working at Pearl and Pine. I started as a server in the formal dining room. It provided a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a really great team in providing meals to some pretty special residents! I was able to move positions and being working in their casual lounge as the single server where I enjoyed working independently.  At Pearl and Pine, you can easily move to a different department and I then made the move to Guest Services/Admin. It was wonderful to work with another AMAZING team of peers and allowed me to advance my skills in customer service as well as job related duties. I was also able to experience helping out in the Lifestyles Department and enjoyed several fun excursions with the residents. The managers  operate on an open-door policy and are always available for support and encouragement if you need it! I highly recommend Pearl and Pine as your next employer and hope you find it your 'home away from home' as I did. 

Unable to retain nurses because of poor treatments. Incompetent roles which causes disorganization, poor management. Lacks competencies to consistency follow regulations and appropriate interventions. Poorly staffed at many times, intimidation constantly occurs, inconsistent management skills, lacks experiences, unethical occurrences (favoritism, manipulating to favor political gains), inadequate compensation for what you are expected to complete, poor quality environment, low standards, undignified treatments and truly unfortunate for the many kind residents living in this Retirement home who deserve better organization for their quality of life.

PSWs are all good to work with  except for some that love to report to management every single thing. These PSWs are acting like someone in the facility with full of toxicity. In terms of career growth, I learned a lot and I am very thankful for that.  Management are nice and sweet but they can easily let go of you as they expect you to be perfect.  But the mere fact that one of them is very forgetful and has lack of leadership skills and communication with staff. You would enjoy this job but don’t expect to last longer as you really have to perfect. Hoping one day these toxic PSWs would get fired as their job there is mostly to report mistake of co workers specially the new hired ones. Let’s stop bullying.

P&P has a positive work environment. There are many opportunities for growth within the company, either within the department that you work or alternate departments. There are many benefits, such as; education tuition assistance, on-site training opportunities and a social committee led by staff to provide engaging staff events. They lead the industry with upgrading and implement technology upgrades. Management is supportive of goals and helps to provide opportunities for career development. 

The company culture is inclusive and promotes diversity. The most enjoyable aspect of the job is creating relationships and learning from the absolutely amazing Residents. 

The management is useless and continues to undervalue their hard working employees while continuing to promote poor leadership skills. 

There are no opportunity to advance within the company as they continue to hire externally despite internal applicants. 

The company rarely listens to complaints of harassment and turns a blind eye to abrasive employees. 

I absolutely do not recommend working here unless you are looking to feel unfulfilled, unappreciated, and worthless. 

The residents care more about the employees than management and often pick up on how management treats staff. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I love my job and the seniors in my care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
We have had no DOC for months and no one to report to.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We have been short staffed and had outside agency in to fill the shifts. There is a constant turn over of staff. This has affected the quality of care which has plummeted in the last year. We have been without a DOC for months.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We have lost a lot of residents in our care over the past few months resulting in reducing hours and shifts because of lack of work.

High turnover rate because of the terrible management done at Pearl and Pine. Workers will be worked until they burnout and they will still be told they aren't doing enough to help. Be prepared to be called in on days off because departments are rarely fully staffed. Higher management will talk down to you when concerns are brought to their attention. You are told there is full transparency and in the same sentence they will lie to you. 

Bad, bad, bad experience. I had to quit. We worked so hard for basically minimum wage - I’m at least talking about housekeeping and from what I hear the dining room staff. They treated us like garbage. It’s known to all departments how bad it really is - the and management just blames us for our burnout. Always, always, always short-staffed. I’m was so tired. We were all so tired. Management refused to look at themselves and take any blame for the absolutely toxic workplace they created. I needed to leave for my own mental health…they just didn’t give a darn about us.

They will hire you very quick with how desperate they are. You can be hired with zero experience but it’s not worth it. You will be extremely overworked people have 60+ hours a week but not paid overtime. The only good thing is the residents very sweet and caring. No one cares for there job so to the staff slacks and expect you to figure most things out yourself. You don’t get the proper training. They haven’t had staff work there for even a year with how bad it is everyone is quitting and leaving which is why they hire all times.

Working at pearl and pine was not a nice experience. The management team was dreadful. Most of them are friends. Confidentially isn’t managements strong suit. Employees are very unpaid for the work they expect. They expect above and beyond work but don’t pay above and beyond wages. The staff turnover rate is very high. The added bonus is that paying for parking comes out of the employees pocket. Don’t get me wrong the pearl and pine is a lovely place to look at but it is not a lovely place to work.
