Did a lot of merchandising and pricing at first and then when we opened the store was not as bust as we all thought it would be. A typical day for me would be just working on sorting out the store and we were constantly having to move things around because our managers would tell us one thing then when we had visits from the man higher up from other Peavey locations they would show us how they wanted it and it was back to moving stuff around again. Management was great but I think it was all new to them and they have never been a part of opening a store from scratch either and so it could have been more structured but they did try hard to get it rite to. Co-workers were great at Peavey, they hired a great staff there, about 50% of the staff was from Wholesale Sports in Winnipeg which was kind of unfair but we were all a hard working team. The hardest part of this job was defiantly setting it up from scratch, its a lot of work and constant moving things here and there and it was such a huge store it defiantly was a challenge but the most enjoyable part of this job for me was when we got to open the doors. I enjoy helping customers and being able to talk to the public and it was defiantly a great job overall.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The customers, the day shift while having small children to go home to. The garden centre was my favourite. I enjoyed the variety of tasks each day and the staff were alright. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management was unorganized and inappropriate at times. The pay was low for the work and extra training required to be done. The hierarchy was ill established to have a efficient team, resulting in dissatisfied customers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fairly enjoyable, with many new trucks and organizing to be done. The staff room was physically falling apart due to a leak not attended to by repair. It was unfortunate. The  culture remained the same not really multi cultural at all. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clock in, check computer for updates on task and requirements of the day by corporate. Start or complete plan-o-grams. Down stocking. Facing answering to any customers or aid them with lifting. Covering other departments breaks. Answering phones, back door deliveries. Clean up and put away for the day clock out, report to manager on staff accomplishments for the day.

Stressful as heck with almost no incentive to perform above standard expectations. Pay will remain minimum with nearly no chance for advancement unless by some miracle a full timer dies or leaves. The warehouse has no idea how to properly manage stock and distribute it accordingly. At the location I currently work for we get stock trucks twice a week that are loaded down with product that we already have an abundance of, or a new line that they decided to purchase on a whim. Peavey has a horrible track record of introducing new programs and gimmicks that don't pan out like the new Peavey credit card or the Extended Warranty program. The customers don't usually buy into it though and it ends up making the company look extremely out of touch with their customer base. A large portion of the stress that gets pinned onto customer service associates is due to head office's incompetence in everything they do. Peavey would be a decent place to work for if it wasn't run by monkeys.


I am 15, this was my first job and I was really excited to work for Peavey Mart, thinking it was going to be a great experience.  From the time I was offered a position and went through orientation (which was during school hours), it was five weeks before I had any call backs from management on when the rest of training or my first shift would be, even though I called and visited the store to ask many times and was always told the manager would get back to me soon.

Once I started, it was hard to get a schedule.  The schedules are made on Friday for the next week which starts Sunday, so hard to plan around your life and activities.  I had two shadowing shifts for training and a few hours of work on a computer.

When I got to work my last shift I was told I wasn’t needed any more.  I asked for a reason and the manager said we’re not allowed to say.  I’m trying to go through HR to understand what I did wrong because no one ever told me I was doing anything wrong.

I’m really disappointed.  With this being my first job I was hoping to learn more and be with a supportive manager. 



In the short time that I worked at Peavey Mart, I was able to sustain a very comfortable atmosphere, Family like, with all employees.  It was a fun, challenging place to work, and I miss each and every employee dearly.  I learned to work without the aid of a planogram, which in most larger, older retail stores is implemented on the floor in each department, but at Peavey Mart, there is no planograms as such and you are to use your skills to figure it all out.  The hardest part of the job was to not be able to order my own product.  This was reverse to all my teachings in retail prior, as we always ordered some if not all of our product.  At Peavey Mart it went according to what the computer said we sold, and then we were replenished, but the challenge was in trying to support Customer Service, when I could not reorder exactly the size and style of what the customer required, so it enable me to lean on other stores that would have that product and wait a possible 2 week period to receive it.  The most enjoyable part of this job and any job is the employees that work there and the atmosphere!!!

One day another employee screamed at me for over two hours outside of the store. Describing to me in detail what her dads dead body looked like. Coworker would constantly try to cause problems between me and other workers. Literally like being in high school. Manager wouldn’t settle issues between coworkers would just say to deal with things yourself. Stories of old managers showing up to work drunk constantly.Coworkers show up drunk and underage workers have weed on them.If you want to work somewhere where your coworkers spam for phone for two hours for looking at them the wrong way this is the place for you. I tried to be very nice and kind to my coworkers but always was being yelled at about things I was doing wrong. No help was given. Other employees could sit in the back during rush hours leaving one employee to do till, loading and stocking. Manager plays favourites and gives special treatment to the girls she likes best. Brings a lot of outside issues and drama to work making it hard to approach.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Your work experience grows in aiding the specifics of many farmers, contractors and clients with the many fields applicable to various sales opportunity and allows you to exercise your techniques in building a relationship that flourished over the years!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Realizing that your ability to show your skills and possible expectations for growth goes un- noticed in many instances, therefore your stuck at a job that may not allow you a betterment for your future.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The main thing is we all had many ideas in helping each other in many areas. There was a positive culture in obtaining our daily goals. Lots of energy!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cleanup, merchandise, sell, sell, sell. Creating a positive work environment for staff and create a great experience in shopping to everyone.

Only benefits working here was the health plan and occasional bonus. Contrary to what they try to convince you to believe, promotions never happen from within. Most management positions/promotions are bestowed to/filled to/by former wholesale sports managers and employees for some reason. The company is plagued with nepotism, and the workplace culture leaves a lot to be desired. I often ended my work days feeling completely unappreciated and alienated by management. Throughout my entire employment, my job security was constantly being threatened by tyrannical managers who seemed to get some sort of thrill from destroying morale in the workplace. I I only stayed for the aforementioned health benefits and the few co-workers I actually liked. This job was the most unprofessional work environment I've ever had the displeasure of working in. I would never returned to work for this establishment again.

Working at Peavey Industries was a great place for me to work. With the ability to work through my lunches, and leave early so I could take my son to hockey was perfect.
My manager was awesome, she was very laid back and easy to talk to with any problems we might have. And what can I say about my co-workers except everyone helped each other out, and lent a hand when needed. Not to say that it was always perfect, you put 30 women together in an office, and there is bound to be mishaps. All in all though they were a fun bunch of ladies.
The hardest part of my job was trying to get my speed up for data entry as I came from the warehouse with no experience. However it did not take long, and I was up with the others.
The most enjoyable part of my job was when we were super busy, and there wasn't enough time for a full 15 minute break. The busier the better I always say.

the people themselves are nice but almost all forms of management are difficult as a lot of them don't know what direction to be facing most of the time.  not through any fault of there own its a head office communication error thing i think but almost every staff member is really friendly and down to earth kind of people mostly.  There is almost no raises though after 5 years only got a few more cents from what i was started at and if you do very well the acknowledgment is almost non existent. So if that's what you need to be happy at a workplace i don't recommend it.  also management tends to take all credit for things in the store when DM's come by and don't hand any credit to the individual staff members.
