Prestige Hotels and Resorts

I worked with the Prestige hotels and Resort for almost 2 years as the Assistant Manager. It was a challenging position but rewarding as we (as a team) were able to achieve great results both with guests satisfactions and revenues for the group.

Positive points working at Prestige were:
*Great Interview process- Great HR Manager
* Quality help from the Corporate Sales Manager
* Friendly and professional staff to work with. 
* Good benefits & employees rates on hotels in the group.

The negative aspect of working at Prestige were  :
* I did not enjoy the management style of the central office – It was firm and old style. Not teamwork. 
* Corporate office controls everything you do as a manager. There is very little freedom in your management. It is very easy to be reprimanded for individual initiatives and thus you feel like you are walking on eggshells at all times.
*The group claims family values and that "they care" but I have rarely seen a company that cares so little. 
*I personally ended up in the laundry room or cleaning rooms for hours after my shift to get things under control. Managers should expect to be involved ( and do not expect to be thanked for it)
* Some company ethics are absent all together – do not expect discussion about your position, your job satisfaction – you can be replaced from one day to the next with no explanation.
* In my 20 years career, I was used to focusing on guests and on services. Prestige Management is 80 % Admin.

From morning to night the hotel industry is fast paced, energy driven, demanding job, yet full of new and exciting people including guest from all over the globe to locals who have lived in the Okanagan there entire lives and love to share what this beautiful place we call home has to offer. With summer being the busy season one must be able to be available to demanding hours weekends and nights, but working with such a dynamic team can make anyone's day a pleasant one. The feeling of being part of such a team has a family feel and should be an absolute must when dealing with such a demanding job. A typical day can have such a diverse array of request from guest ranging from all ages and cultures and making sure the needs of every guest is met. Giving the best customer service and making the guest feel number one while offering a personable, yet professional service to each and every guest making a memorable and comfortable stay that will keep them and their families coming back for years to come.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My direct supervisor was a really nice person and I appreciated her efforts in spite of a pretty terrible environment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very little support. Having to deliver guest items to rooms myself and leave the front desk abandoned.  Didn't feel safe at times. Constantly trying to provide some sort of 4 star experience despite having 1 star resources. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good.  A lot expected of essentially minimum wage employees. Staff were treated as disposable. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up, get a basic run down of whats going on.  Than after a couple of hours left to fend for myself for the rest of the shift.  No breaks, no coverage, no support.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Co workers. Company discounts. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of follow through with promotions and opportunities claimed. Lack of respect and safety. Prioritizing abusive employees over diligent respectful workers. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Casual, fun at times. Charisma gets you farther than hard work dedication and honesty. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clock in set up for the day perform tasks and clock out.

Prestige is a fast pace environment, before you know it your shift is done. It is a continually learning environment. Whether you are learning more about your job or stories from guests, that are from every corner of the earth. Management is always there to help trouble shoot any issues, that may arise from day to day. It is a diverse culture to work in. The hardest part of the job, is dealing with guests that are not happy with their stay.I love working here. The diverse team and meeting people from all over the world. 

It was okay to work especially when you needed the job so badly, they are not good in taking care of their employees (no motivation and support) and a hierarchy system, no place for opportunities or room to grow unless you're willing to swallow all your pride and dignity. The managers would like you to be trained for about 3 days and started to work on your own. Managers like to promise a lot just to make you work but after that they just smile at you. Employees are nice and very friendly so that's a plus factor.

They have their own little group of friends and if they dont like you then youre not among them. 
One of the girls had a birthday party and I wasnt even invited to join them because I was new even though I donated 5 dollars towards it.
The place is run by two mothers and they both had their children working there stripping the beds for the housekeepers - they would also keep our tips and when one of the girls said something about it they fired her. 

The manager is cold and selfish. Don't work for her if you value your self worth.

I enjoy working because they accept the people whatever nationality and no discrimination

Colleague's keep on whining about work

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
My employer welcomes everyone and they always support each other whatever the company need

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
First thing in the morning, smile to everyone you see.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Getting fired was the best day I had working there

Poorly trained management and lack of respect for the employees
