Staff accommodation is INCREDIBLY overpriced. The company charges $500-$600 per person (which is cheap for Banff) but then shoves you in a 2 bedroom apartment with 5-8 other people. They’re making $3,000-$4,500 every month off an apartment that would go for $2,000-$2,500 from a rental company.

There’s no amenities available in the suite, internet is choppy or frequently unavailable, they frequently invade your privacy by entering your room with little to no warning. They search through your stuff without asking. Certain buildings don’t allow guests and they hang the fact they own you via your job and home over your head constantly.

The restaurant I worked was amazing. Very busy, management of the restaurant itself are very caring and hardworking. But that’s where it stops. Corporate managers (every single one of them) are a handful of crayons short of a box.

They come into the business all the time, micromanaging things they know nothing about, demanding incredibly high expectations and always finding something to nitpick. This normally wouldn’t be an issue but the restaurant is given an incredibly small amount of staff accom beds so they’re unable to hire the amount of staff needed to accomplish these expectations.

Working hard doesn’t get you anywhere. Raises come annually and it’ll only be $0.50. (If you’re lucky)

I will say the benefits package (health care, company perks and discounts) is very nice and all employees (except seasonal workers) get it. Not many companies would give a dishwasher dental coverage so that’s respectable.

If you want a fun summer with decent pay and bad accommodations, then pursuit is the company for you. Enjoy your time in Banff and leave at the end. 

But if you want to build a career here, the only way you’ll ever succeed is by dedicating 50-60 hours of your life every week from April-October and being an obedient yes-man lap dog who does what they’re told and sacrifices their mental and physical health non stop to ensure high company profits (which you will never see a share of)



The company operates as several different companies. Each location has its' own culture and flavour. Each location has its own pros and cons. There is very little consistency in management, service expectations or process. 
I loved the entrepreneurial spirit. The company really allowed each leader to innovate, run with ideas and make the department their own. This was also a drawback, as the expectations and lack of training or support made for a crushing workload in any leadership position. 
In contrast to the ability to impact your own team, it is next to impossible to make a lasting impact on the company. Ideas and improvements suggested to the upper leadership are largely ignored. Even when things are well thought-out and on brand, they are not acted on if they don't come from head office. 
Many managers and teams are just trying to stay above water. 
Because it's mainly a seasonal business, there is a high turnover rate. This is expected and unavoidable. However, come winter, employees truly are left out on the street. If you want a fun summer gig, this is a great fit.   
There are some outstanding leaders, and some poor ones. 
I love the locations and outdoor spirit. There are a lot of great people and I always had fun at work. Thankfully, there is always lots of opportunity to grow and you can gain a lot of skills in a short time. Know to stick up for your needs. Housing is cheap and it's ok for a time, but not sustainable. 

This company has some huge issues that they need to fix. Under what circumstances is it okay to lie to staff and say oh come up to Banff and work in the office when it’s work from home job, another thing when is putting employees in front of computer called training? We had maybe 2 1/2 days of training and maybe 3 hours on the computer. Once we started working on computers they stopped training us. Given the amount of data entry in this job you would think you would mention to your staff that this is how things are done. Set the standard from the beginning. They trained on things we never used and didn’t do enough training on things we were doing. They expect you to uproot your life for 3 weeks, don’t provide any living allowance while up there and wouldn’t even cover the cost of gas. 

We were up there for 3 weeks of so called training but yet no training was actually done. This company needs to work on their communications as they are severely lacking in all departments. 

Advice to management. Do better. Communicate better and actual train your employees it’s unacceptable For staff to constantly be told they are in doing something wrong when they didn’t even have the courtesy to mention it in the first place. 

It’s a corporation so they have people in positions that have no idea how to run them. They will ask their employees personal questions which they have no right to ask. They promote based on your popularity over your skills and knowledge. The staff discount and perks were taken away or changed multiple times through out the year. Even after the employment contract had been signed which again shows how well they run their stuff. While I was working there they choose profit over safety a few times. The pursuit corporation needs to realize that you get what you pay for and if you pay your bus drivers and boat captains minimum wage then you’re probably not getting the best drivers. Which was probably factor in some of their other misfortunes. Keep this in mind when you’re being hooked up to the zip line or strapped into the roller coaster……. Is it just a high school kid being paid minimum wage that I am trusting my life with?? There are massive building code violations all over the park. Some are large safety risks like fences along the canyon which are super easy for children to climb, stairs with no railings. Pursuit doesn’t care about anything other then profit. 

very unprofessional higher management and unorganized. 
i applied to be a server at the banff gondola, and was told I would be expecting an answer in 3 days with a yes or no. 
I heard nothing until 2 months after being offered a housing keeping job in jasper…i did end up taking the job. the team you work with hands on i cannot complain on that behalf my supervisor was awesome and encouraging, and everyone was a pleasure to work with. but the higher ups say “they are just one of us”. 
the director of house keeping was very intrusive when i told him i was leaving asking questions as where i was going to work, where i was going to live. when i had got a second job in town he also intruded on that by asking where it was that i would be working, what days and my managers name…he also would say things like “if i give you this day off you owe me” which i found very unprofessional.
the housing department only gives 24hours notice on new roommates who will be sleeping less that a foot away from you. and never ever respond to emails. 
i feel as though the upper management try’s to make it look like they care about us but don’t really seem to care and just see us as a number.

Great company to work for, equipment is good, mechanics are always ready to help out. Did have a problem getting safety equipment 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In grader by 0600, checked roads, moraine and glacier for safety, plowing ice for morning buses. Finished by 0900 open. Came in for breakfast, went back to shop to service equipment the out to see how the day progressing, if everything is working like its supposed to. Back in for lunch around noon/1300. Then back out to check everything is good, help mechanics if needed, talk to bus coordinator if there are any problems. Take what equipment necessary to go repairs, then into the grader to resurface ice for buses, start evening prep of the ice around 1700 , finished around 18;30

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very little leadership, communication or accountablity, professionalism and respect towards staff members 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's was very toxic, and negative.   There was a certain pecking order, favoritism in manager, between team members, staffing.   There policy/procedures were not properly established Staff could party, drink, participate in drugs and expected to operate charter businesses the next day. Staff employees were very disrespectful towards those whom didn't participate in thir activities too.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My roll as a facilities cleaner supervisor, I brought a positive mind set and was an egar participant following proper cleaning guidelines and true leadership very hands on always available to help, assist my team to maintain a healthy, safe and clean environment

Great place to build a career or work for the summer. Upper management is approachable and willing to get their hands dirty. 
There does seem to be a big communication disconnect between departments such as HR, housing, accounting & payroll, and marketing with the front lines. In my experience this would lead to a comedy of errors in a vast array of issues such as payroll errors (deductions, incorrect hours, even no payroll deposit for some employees). Centralised management model can hold  back the front line teams from performing as efficiently as possible. 
Hours are long and hard in the summer but to be expected in a tourist town. 
Great perks and benefits including retention bonuses, free activities such as boat cruises, ice walk tours etc., medical and dental benefits including RRSP matching.

Scheduled staff meetings with department heads to review and update hotel activity. Reviews and submits all department schedules to general offices
Administrated employee personnel policies on location. Delegated authority and assigns responsibilities to department heads
Fostered team environment among all staff members 
Responsible for all Accounting issues in my property 
Enforced and followed all Company policies and regulations
Assisted other departments when necessary

Overall Pursuit is an excellent place to work.  Management ensures you are not overworked and understand the work-life balance.

People & Culture (HR) always offers lots of great local deals and satff events.  Team members are always friendly and willing to help each other out.
