Quality Inn and Suites

I could go on about  a lot of things, but the problem is that on my shift (3-11) we have no other staff. Whether its a full house on the weekend, or ten people on a slow day, I'm the only one there. 

There is no maintenance or security. I (the front desk associate) am responsible to make sure things run smoothly, and that I respond to as many calls as possible. I have never called off for a shift, and the only time I was late was when the roads were blocked from one of the power lines falling down. They will say they had another associate, but they were only there for contract work, they were not hired by the company and do not work under the Quality Inn name. It doesn't make sense to call on someone who paints and assume they'll be okay as a security guard.

I have worked there for months without incident. I have performed multiple evictions from noise complaints and even violence. One night I made the call to have an unregistered guest removed from the property. He was not registered, had no I.D to verify who he was and decided to make it known that he was an ex criminal. With no security, no id and a scenario that screamed 'shady' I made the call to non-emergency to have the two escorted from the property, as I didn't feel comfortable going all the way upstairs to knock on their door. 

Apparently seeing the police at his door, the guy jumped from the second story window and ran on foot. My manager insisted I provoked the situation and that I was discriminating against someone just because they had a criminal background. He has insurance. This isn't even the worst dollar amount of damage a guest has done to the room. Still, because he broke the window, I was deemed 'unsuitable' for the job and was dismissed on Dec 14'th without any prior notice. 

It's written on the paperwork that every guest signs. It's even in the online learning modules for employees. Management has also exercised there authority in a similar situation in front of me, and yet, they agreed with their owner because it's what they get paid to do. 

There are no standards and there is no structure. Nothing is actually enforced unless it's convenient for management. Would not recommend applying, even if it's for the experience. I got paired up with someone that didn't speak fluent english and harassed me for not knowing my brand-new no-experience job. I had to learn the rest as I encountered them. Even now I wouldn't consider myself experienced enough to apply to other hotels.

OTHER STUFF: 

After this incident I was told that I could have called on someone else. When I first started the job they made it very clear that I was alone and that I should contact the police if need be. They tried to tell me I could have called the owner to come down and help me when I was 'feeling unsafe'. The owner is also the same guy that told his 18 yr old daughter (who doesn't work there and doesn't even know the job) to tell CHILDREN to stop running in the hallway because he DIDN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE! He also doesn't follow up on almost anything he says he will do anyway, so why would I depend on this guy to come and save the day? 

Snow was plowed in the morning but walkways and snow later in the day was not taken care of. I'm already doing three jobs for minimum wage, I'm not doing 4. 

Since there was no maintenance associate the owner decided to fill in. For a while it was okay, but then he got lazy again. I couldn't even guess what number the chlorine and bromine were because the colour wasn't even on the chart! I was encouraged to falsify information in the books (never did though), I was told to mark down that I added something to it to balance it... but I've never been trained to! I tried to close the pool/hot tub off but the owner would open it right back up. Even when health inspection came by and closed it, he would remove/try to hide the "CLOSED" sign. 

I was told to try and sell rooms that smelled like urine- because the drunk party that rented it the night before urinated in the bed. I was told to sell rooms that smelled of paint fumes. I was told to sell rooms with no working heat in November, because the owner 'didn't think it was that cold'. 
 
Because the hotel was in such sloppy condition, head office sent someone down to try and get the place fixed up. We stopped taking cash and debit to weed out the riffraff and it really worked. Just before the end however, the owner got greedy and said we'd take it again. Within the last few days I worked it was a zoo. People were cooking meth and running around the hotel screaming. It's a saturday, you're alone, you got 20 people in front of you, and to top it off, you still have to catch up on all of the other 5 hrs of work that was left for you because someone called off. 

Again.

The Only Positive Things:
You were allowed to sit when it wasn't busy
You could even bring entertainment as long as you dropped it immediately for guests
Meeting some pretty awesome guests. Just wish I could tell'em I had to go. :')

I worked as a night auditor and there was absolutely no communication between employees and management. I brought multiple issues to their attention and received no answers. They are unprofessional in the way they conduct their business, guests in the hotel are absolute last priority, at least once a night I would receive complaints about things that other shifts had done wrong or not completed at all. When I started working there I received training on a shift that I wouldn't be working on and only 2 days of training on my actual shift and was left to figure the rest out myself and when I had a question and attempted to contact management I would receive no answer. A typical day as a night auditor includes attempting to figure out what the day shift had done wrong and figuring out a way to fix it. filling out information from the daily statistics from all departments in the hotel and restaurant. however multiple nights I was not provided with the information from the restaurant needed and couldn't complete the work. you are also expected to take orders from every manager in the building including the restaurant manager even when what they say contradicts another. Although this job does offer completive pay it is no where worth it for all of the things that are expected of you. as a night auditor you are the only employee in the entire hotel and are expected to look after 86 rooms of quests completely alone. This job is also not meant for a young female as there were multiple nights that I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable by drunk guests and when I brought it to the attention of management, nothing was done. When I had finally put my two weeks in, they removed me from the schedule sharing app and completely removed me from  the schedule with absolutely no warning or conversation well before the two weeks were up. when I went into work my normally scheduled hours there was someone else working my shift. If I had to sum up my experience working at this hotel I would have to say that It was absolutely horrible. I wouldn't wish this job on anyone.

A typical night at work:  Night Audit = Register arriving guests and assign rooms, Take, cancel and change room reservations, Process telephone calls, Provide information on hotel facilities and services, Provide general information about points of interest in the area, Provide information about services available in the community, Arrange services required for guests with special needs, Process wake-up calls, Process guests' departures, calculate charges and receive payments, Balance cash and complete balance sheets, cash reports and related forms, Maintain occupancy statistics, Customer service oriented, Follow emergency and safety procedures, Work with minimal supervision, Clerical duties (i.e. faxing, filing, photocopying), Perform light housekeeping, cleaning, and shredding of paperwork with personal information that will not be kept on file.  Assisting in completing night audit with other front desk personnel. 

What I learned - Organization of front desk responsibilities for a two-person front desk night/audit operation.  I had worked alone on night audit previously.

Management is professional and personable.

The hardest part of the job is staying awake between 4 and 6 a.m. and acting energetic enough to complete the early morning tasks.

The most enjoyable part of the job is registering arriving guests and processing guests departures; asking if they had a pleasant visit to this city.  This always gives me a lot of satisfaction with my work; one of my co-workers who doesn't do this always comments on this, I don't know why he doesn't try this also.  It is good to receive both positive and negative feedback and always try to make the guests feel wanted, at home and welcomed while they are out travelling whether its business or pleasure.

I’ve been part of the team at Quality Inn & Suites Summerside for a while now, and I can honestly say I’m genuinely satisfied with my experience.  Unlike those big corporate settings where you sometimes feel like just another number, here I genuinely feel recognized and appreciated. The management isn’t just there to give orders— they truly care about us as individuals, take the time to listen to our concerns, and actively work to make our environment welcoming and supportive. It’s a place where they really do treat you like family.
Of course, when a place offers such trust and support, there can be individuals who try to take advantage—like delaying their tasks just to stretch their hours. That said, I believe that’s more about a few individuals than about the company culture as a whole. But these cases don’t define the company as a whole. The majority of us respect what we have here and want to maintain that positive environment.
I especially love how the owner is personally involved, not only in day-to-day operations but also in contributing to the local community. They sponsor local events, help out with charities, and consistently show that giving back matters to the business. It makes me proud to say I work for a company that’s about more than just profit. The respect and recognition we receive for our efforts mean a lot, and it’s clear that the contributions we make as individuals are truly valued.

All in all, working at Quality Inn & Suites Summerside feels like I’m part of something meaningful. I’m grateful for the growth opportunities, the positive atmosphere, and the feeling that I’m contributing to a place that cares about both its staff and its neighbors. It’s not just a job—it’s somewhere I’m happy to come to every day.


In the beginning, I thought it was great work environment. Everyone seemed so nice. Soon did I learn how passive aggressive everyone was and leaving “friendly” notes directed at staff. It started with changing the POSTED schedule without asking or notice. Then I would receive text messages over the weekend full of questions why I ordered so many bananas or why I didn’t order enough. I was damned if I did and damned if I didn’t. I could never do anything right. At this specific hotel, if the occupancy is 80+ then it was set up 50/50 disposable plates and cutlery. If 100+ it was full disposable and 2 breakfast attendants. In the last weeks, I was left with full dishes set up and the kitchen not adequately stocked (not enough thawed bread/bagels) when it was extremely busy and I was often on my own with 120+ guests. I started to feel as though the kitchen supervisor was setting me up for failure and making me want to quit because they couldn’t fire me. I busted my butt and my back (hired me knowing full well I had a back injury and could only lift so much) and still finished long before the more experienced workers. I saved them money and got treated as though I owed them something. I gave my proper 2 weeks notice and was asked if I could stay longer. The day before my last day was my breaking point. I talked to management and informed them I could not fulfill my commitment due to medical reasons and I was told I stuck them in a real jam, rather than that’s too bad... I hope you will be ok, take care of yourself. A lot of the supervisory responsibility was put on me when I was never properly trained.

Working at the Quality Inn started early morning preparing and presenting a continental breakfast to the guests. While watching over and refilling consumed food I would watch the front desk and take any calls or concerns from other guests. I would then replenish the housekeeper's carts and start any laundry that needed to be cleaned.   While still watching the front desk and answering the phones on a portable device. After breakfast was complete I would clean and sanitize all that needed to be and proceed to vacuum and maintain the entrance area. As I helped guests check out I would assign each housekeeper their rooms all the while managing the front desk duties. Where the inn's location was, was a tourist area during the summer which brought many different types of people. In the winter we wouldn't have many guests, it was mostly working men who are in the area for a short period. The hardest thing about the job was the labour. It can be very hard on your body and when really busy there was not a lot of employees to help take over or lend a hand. The best part was meeting so many different people. I once met a famous elderly female ballerina. She stayed for a long period of time and I had created a relationship with her. Lovely.

I enjoyed my time at Quality Suites Inn. My co-workers were helpful and understanding. If I needed guidance on a particular task they were more than willing to offer advice or tips. Management was good at first, unfortunateley as time passed Management became unco-operative to advancements, failed to see the determination and excessive effort I had to offer.It was clear I would not see advancement for other opportunities as to excelling towards Housekeeping and Laundry Duty. Eventually my will to work efficiently was diminished due to lack of understanding, patience and compassion for events pertaining to another co-worker who made my weekly tasks difficult in a matter of a weekend. Management failed to see exerted efforts of staying after hours and going out of my way to perform dutiful tasks. It became clear that management had a "high school" attitude towards conflict. Ability to confront others and reasoning for unexplained actions was not possible, simple mockery of conflicted situations followed.. Management lacked profession in problem solving and due to lack of building a strong foundation within the coworkers resulted in the General Manager being fired.

While working at the quality inn in Woodstock I found that the housekeeping team was a very friendly and wonderful group of people to work with. I didn't mind coming into work everyday when I was always greeted by their friendly faces. We were a good team and often worked well together, helping one another out if someone fell behind with their work load.

Teamwork was often really important with our job, because some guests would leave their rooms in such a mess that it would take longer to clean then other rooms. That was when I knew I could count on someone in our housekeeping team to come by and help me catch up in my work if she flew through hers.

Things I learned on the job was how to work as a cooperative team, and how to effectively clean a room to meet the standards of the hotel. From my experience I also learned that positive people can help make a positive environment, so I never dreaded coming into work.

The only thing I ever disliked working there was that in the winter there was a huge drop in guests staying in the hotel, so that my working hours would drop and there was even days I would be cancelled.

I never liked working in a hotel but since I needed money, I was desperate to work here but the experience I had wasn't pleasant at all. 
I've only been here for a month. 

Shift starts at 8 in the morning. 14 rooms to clean sometimes 18 the most and you need to finish these rooms from say 8 30 or 9 to 4pm. $14/hour, but the rooms you clean are super nasty cuz some people lives in the hotel especially first floor. 

Management - the manager was fine for a few weeks, then she started giving me attitude and the staff doesnt like her because shes very rude to them 

Staff - well they all know each other so you cant really rely on them cuz they will screw you over especially that black lady who works in the first floor and those two nosy filipinas always asking me how many rooms i have and how many check out I have. 

Food - you have to bring your own food cuz theres no free food but you can buy something in the front desk. 

Work - very tiring, the people who does the laundry are slower than a turtle! You always have to go downstairs every 30mins cuz you always have to get extra sheets, towels, etc 

I do not recommend applying here cuz they only pay $14, not a good pay for a physical job.

Great place to work. I like working with my colleagues and Manager. Its all about diversity and opportunity.Hospitality requires me to work in a multi-cultural environment. Working in a hotel does not mean that internationalism within the establishment stops at your guests; for the people behind the reception, in the kitchen and at the offices come from all corners of the world and they bring along with them their own language, cultural background and ideas on how to efficiently work within the industry. All these people had taught me how to maximize my working capabilities based on their own personal experience within their home-countries; which at the end of the day not only enriched my practical skills - but my knowledge on other countries as well. Able to communicate and work with different people from different backgrounds - as one big team.In conclusion, the hotel industry is a pretty interesting and pleasant domain to get involved in. As any other job, it has its ups and downs, and that's the great part of it: there is always place for innovation and there will always be innovators.
