I was hired for ITAD Technician position. However, the reality of the job entails 70% of my time being a "swamper helper" for shipping & receiving, rather than the technical tasks specified on the job posting. This was a major disappointment and felt like a bait-and-switch.
The problems started early on during the training, which was incredibly lack-buster on the shipping & receiving side. It was the most disorganized training I've had and didn't properly prepare me for the daily responsibilities. I was never taught the things that I was eager to learn and do. 

There was a clear lack of leadership while I was there. The supervisor came across as unprofessional and insincere, management is clueless of what happens on the floor, making a workplace culture where it was difficult to feel valued. I consistently worked hard, took initiative, put in extra effort for my receiver duties, and succeeded expectations on the little technical duties I was given. But none of it was ever acknowledged or appreciated. It was very demoralizing to feel like your contributions are invisible.

The most frustrating part of the experience was the complete absence of any official feedback. Never once did a supervisor or manager sit me down and talk to me about my performance, share some constructive criticism, or comment on areas where I could improve. The first and only time I ever received any "feedback" was the day they let me go, citing issues I was never made aware of. This approach is unfair and unprofessional, as it gives employees no opportunity to learn or correct their course.

This is a very challenging place to work. The pay does not reflect the physical demands of the job, and the raises are so minimal they feel insulting. They do not come close to matching the cost of living or the level of effort required, which makes it difficult to feel valued.

Working conditions are harsh, with extreme heat in the summer and freezing temperatures in the winter, making the job physically exhausting year-round.

Management does not listen to employee concerns and tends to dismiss feedback rather than address ongoing issues. There is little transparency, accountability, or genuine interest in improving conditions.

There are no real opportunities for growth or advancement. Employees are not supported in developing new skills or progressing within the company, making it feel like a dead-end position.

The workplace culture is further affected by frequent gossip, which lowers morale and creates an uncomfortable environment.

Overall, the combination of low pay, insulting raises, physically demanding conditions, unresponsive management, lack of growth opportunities, and negative culture makes this a difficult place to recommend.

I worked at this company for nearly two years, including the period after it was acquired by another organization. During that time, I saw several changes that negatively impacted employees. Benefits were reduced, including the removal of sick days, which were replaced with vacation time. This made it difficult for staff to manage both personal health and time off appropriately.

The company promotes a mission of making a positive impact through recycling and sustainability, but in my experience, that same level of care wasn’t reflected internally toward employees. Compensation was not competitive, and policies around pay—particularly at the time of departure—were unclear and disappointing.

While I appreciate the opportunity I had to gain experience, I believe there needs to be a stronger focus on employee well-being, transparency, and fair compensation. A company’s values should extend not only to its external mission but also to how it treats the people who contribute to it every day.

Nothing company ruined the place after acquisition. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Breaks timed down to the minute. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Quantum Lifecycle Partners acquired DCR Systems in November 2024. Since the acquisition, employee perks have steadily been removed. Paid sick time and paid lunches were eliminated, and employees are no longer allowed to carry cell phones on their person at all.

These changes came alongside only a minimal wage increase, barely above minimum wage. Breaks are strictly timed and must be taken at exact, pre-designated times. There are little to no opportunities for advancement.

Overall, morale has declined significantly since the acquisition.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Same repetitive task for 8 hours.

Very poor management. Unethical treatment, Only employees are very nice and friendly. Poor management structure no room for growth, people working on same position for more than 10 years, not recommended at all unless you are broke. Micromanagement with very less pay and very high expectations. Expects you to complete all tasks which sometime not possible by 2 persons. Stay away from this shaddy company. There are tons of jobs with good management and good pay.

My typical day at work is to finish tasks giving to me

My location was previously owned by a single person, before being bought up and merged into Quantum, with that came a ton of corporate culture and policies, not my gig anymore. For various reasons I decided it was time to quit after the takeover, if you don't care about your privacy they are an okay place to work.

There are too many people of a certain demographic and they literally have taken over. Management is under their whim and is semi clueless as to what happens on the floor, it can get toxic at times. The company is of course fully taking advantage of cheap labour. Most people there are on work permits and everyone generally sticks to their own. Far from a diverse Canadian workplace at the production level. 

Being an HRBP at Quantum is interesting, challenging and fulfilling. I love the Edmonton Team as they create such a positive and fun working environment. The HR Team is an amazing group of individuals who constantly support each other. The Senior Leadership team has an excellent sense of direction and commitment to making Quantum the best in the industry. 


during my two years, there have been many changes in management/supervision and most recently a large merger complete with name change. it has been a very challenging experience and having the opportunity to help clean-house and work with the many changes, has added several skills to my tool-box.
