Quiznos

If I was working during the day time lunch hours, I often had the aid of my excellent supervisor, and at times the owner. After serving the lunch rush, the remainder of the day was comprised of food prep for next few days. If I was working during the evening, I was always alone and was tasked with cleaning, dishes and closing up the shop, while serving customers at the same time.

At Quiznos I learned a variety of food-related skills, and things to always keep in mind when working with perishable products. Time management was essential when working alone.

Though the owner was highly motivated to keep the restaurant running and being successful, they did not put a great deal of effort or money into the idea. Flexibility was a complicated luxury. I was often finding myself with surprise shifts landing in my lap without question.

My two co-workers made working this job tolerable. They were both in the same situation, and we bonded over it. Virtually all daily and weekly tasks were consulted with my supervisor, as she in essence, ran the restaurant. One summer, the three of us sat down and devised a permanent schedule and were granted permission to work hours we were comfortable with.

The hardest part of the job was definitely working for the specific owner. They found every possible way to save money, if that meant selling scraps to revered customers, and we had to go along with it. I became upset to learn that we were being paid less than we were working on a few occasions.

Working alone was double sided. Even though it was difficult at times to juggle all the tasks, I found some comfort in being able to structure my evenings as I thought best. Working with the supervisor in the day time was also enjoyable.

When I started operated Quiznos Subs, I was at the age 23.

My typical day started off waking up at 8:00am getting to work for 9:15-30. Getting everything to code so when we open the door for our guests everything was ready to go.

There are so many things I have learned, that I am great full for. It was a life changing experience for me.

I loved the job because I believe its not what your do at work it's all about whom your working us. We at Quiznos will this location we were a family in every way. We get upset with each other, we shared all of our emotions with each other.

We still stay in touch with each other, via text messages, e-mail, phone calls. Every Christmas season, we get together and have dinner and exchange gifts. The age group which worked there was from 16 years old to 37.

The younger students looked up too us older employees and family, and important figures in there life.

Not once did we have a problem finding anyone to cover anyones shift, we had the problem were everyone wanted to cover the shift.

As a owner I treated the families of the employees as my own family. I would give them free food/drinks. they would come in and chat in and check up on us.

I believe when working as a leader of a group, never ever to forget that you were once at a team player also. To make sure you treat everyone on the team from the strongest to the weakest, as a human.

Don't also forget if you get allot of perks to the job to share them with everyone, cause without them you wouldn't be where you are.

The reason why for cons I wrote hours, is because as a younger owner. I believed that before I start a family, I should work as many hours as I can. Then afterwards when I do have a family I will be able to spend more time with them and work less.

This job was my first job as a supervisor. I heard a Quiznos was coming to our city and I dropped my resume off in a box outside. I was told by management that there were close to 500 applicants they pulled out 100 resumes and hired 20. I was the only one who was hired on the spot. I did all jobs there from opening to closing duties to help keep things running smooth while there were line ups outside the door with the new store opening loved the people I worked with we shared a lot of good laughs and memories while we worked. The hardest part of my job was we didn't forecast enough prep in the morning to get the afternoon shift through one day. I had a situation where I came in for an afternoon shift and they were snot busy due to a holiday and didn't prep anything in the morning hours before opening plus we were understaffed with only 2 employees including myself for the night. We had a lineup outside the door at all times, no meat or veggies cut I had to literally make every single sandwich from scratch by cutting the veggie to slicing the meat while the customers watched and were so patient and friendly with that matter. I was written an apology letter from management about that night as they watched the feed on the cameras and saw how busy we were and knew I mentioned it may be best to prep for the holiday with the Wheels right by there at the time we always had customers coming in from the states. That was the hardest point of the job was dealing with slack of others and doing their job on top of my own. I learned how to deal with customers and do cash duties to training other employees. The job kept me busy so it was enjoyable.

As I would open the the store, there was an opening sheet provided with the various duties set out for the day. After getting the meats cut and setting the displays, the front attendants would arrive for there sandwich assembling duties as well as mandatory clean up of the station and its surrounding areas. At this time I would be setting up a 5 day schedule and keeping in mind which employees needed days off. After calculating the total hours worked with over time and not going over the legal limits, only then would I go ahead and publish this schedule. I learned that many people have different ways of reacting to certain situations in a certain environment at a certain time. To keep everyone's integrity it was my responsibility to attend to any upset customers and complaints. I learned if these clients were ignored they would never come back to my store again, so I always provided them with a refund and a free meal which came out of my pocket. My co-workers thought of me as strict and responsible senior. The hardest part of my job was to terminate an individuals employment on the bases of theft, fraud, violence and also excessive no shows. The most enjoyable part was working within the city of Toronto at the heart of harbor front and the location was just ultimate.

Quiznos was family run. The Owner was the Managers Husband, and they always treat they're workers like they're really part of the family. Here I learnt how to make 35+ sandwich and menu items. I feel like this (For a first job ever) was such a perfect fit. Because of out managers loving character it always made me want to be the best employee she's ever had. I was always challenging myself and learning new things about myself! Everything I know about customer service came from Quiznos. My co workers ended up being my life long best friends. Quiznos at some point really was my family. I loved every minute of it! The hardest part of the job was not being able to advance. I enjoyed my time there and will always hold them close in my heart, but I needed more in the end. The best part of the job (Other than gaining best friends and a great family enviroment) was the atmosphere of Quiznos. Any other Quiznos I've walked in to all I get the sense of is a sandwich place, but this Quiznos, there was a sense of family, acceptance no matter who you were, and great people to greet you.

A typical work day starts at 8am and ends at 9pm 61/2 days a week.
I do all prep for the day before restaurant opens. All administrative work is completed before opening including taking deposit to bank. Complete focus on customers by all my employees once store is open. Take care of all business needs in down time throughout the day including ordering scheduling and any other business related needs

The biggest thing I have learned is to manage time well and efficiently. 

I had zero percent turnover in last 4 years. Recently due to my employee all going away to school that has changed to 50% turnover. My co workers or employees are outstanding due to proper training and a clear vision of what I expect of them.I work beside them and take an interest in there lives.

Hardest part of job is the  80 hour weeks

Most enjoyable part of the job knowing that we have served our customers in a  efficient manor with great food , friendly service and in a inviting and clean restaurant.

Usually I would Arrive early rarely late. I would approach my boss and ask him what had already happened prior to my arrival and what i could pick up on or what else needed to be completed. 
I would always have the given task completed in a timely and quality fashion. 

There i learned the Importance of display and flexibility to the managers, employees but most of all customers wishes. 

Management there was excellent. everything was done with care and with good attitude. 

the co-workers there were great to get along with, cared deeply for each other, even after termination or release of their employment. We worked hard together and never treated each other poorly. Each employee was treated with high respect and thus we did the same in return. 

There really was never anything hard about that job in particular. 

the most enjoyable part of this job was the ability to see smiles on customers faces as they left and then seeing them the next day with more people.



A typical day working at Quiznos consists of a lot of cleaning responsibilities, including wiping tables, chairs, windows & all food preparation surfaces, sweeping & moping, as well as making lots of sandwiches simultaneously. Working at Quiznos you will learn valuable food safety methods and preparation techniques, as well as training for meat and veggie slicers, but business aside, I learned something much more valuable that most employers lack.

I cannot mention my bosses name, but she is literally the best employer I have ever had, and probably ever will. From her I learned that you can be friendly, authoritative, polite, responsible, hard working, & easy-going all at the same  without ever having to raise your voice or losing your patience, even when I may have deserved it the most. Working at Quiznos, I learned the RIGHT way to run a business is by being calm, assertive, energetic, and most importantly, being positive.

What started off sour with "we wouldn't hire you, but we're desperate because someone quit on us", to finding out they wouldn't give pay raises for any reason, working for Quiznos was less still not the worst job I've had. The people I've worked with while employed there made the job not only bearable, but almost fun. The clientele was more often than not mentally sound, but that's fast food in a nutshell. The lack of pay increases and benefits got to the point where I stopped paying for food while working there, or even when visiting, unless a boss was there. I feel really sorry for the guy who worked there 7 years without a pay increase, which I don't think was legal. He didn't complain though, because of the flexible schedule. Also, not being able to work a 40 hour week because the hours "didn't work out that way" without working 6 days a week, was pretty disappointing as well. I don't think I would consider working at another Quiznos, unless it was with employers that could compete with decent wages and benefits.

i don't know how to begin this. 

the store ran like a well oiled machine, there was great communication between the workers and the normal negative stuff you get from management that you cant do anything about but just to agree and follow the rules. nothing out of the normal. 

taking in consideration that the store didn't have much business and they we didn't really have a management, just a supervisor that was trying her best to fill in the shoes for the absent area manager that would drop by twice a week because we lacked an actual manager. 

the store eventually closed down, without notice. 

i get it. we are disposable, but i mean after all the hard work and sacrifice everyone in the store put in. they really knew how to show you how much they cared about their employees. 

i guess a warning would of been nice. would of really gave me some security.
