What is the best part of working at the company?
Helpful and professional team environment, with a lot of respect for work/life balance.  Support staff are never required to do overtime, and work from home is an option at least on a hybrid basis.  Fun staff events every few months, and respectful lawyers.  The office manager is very fair and professional as well, and will get back to you about any questions quickly.  Some partners can be aloof, but the associate lawyers and senior clerks are all amazing. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Month's End accounts can be stressful, especially if your lawyer puts it off for a couple months in a row.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Professional and respectful culture, where everyone is willing to assist with a task if you need help.  Very supportive.

The firm doesn't hire new staff when an assistant or clerk quits. The work gets shuffled around to others with no consideration for their current work load nor the lawyers they work with. This happens in all departments, even accounting. You will not get compensated for this. No matter how hard you push, you will not get a raise. 

Staff retention is atrocious.

The lawyer/assistant and lawyer/clerk dynamic is horrible. It's rarely a team effort for anything...some lawyers will even throw you under the bus if they think it will make a client happy. Departments are not teams. It's individual lawyers all high and mighty, and the lowly "other" staff.

There is no HR at the firm. If you have any issues, you get to take it up with the office manager (who is lovely, to be fair), or one of two lawyers. This is so obviously and incredibly Not Right. 



As long as you genuinely work hard and be a team player, you will do fine, and more, will earn respect from others. The work load is intense partly due to the notoriety of the firm, but also a severe lack of technology. Some departments have had trouble retaining good talent due to poor overall management of the firm and management's ability to acknowledge and accept its weak points. I think that's changing. Incentive packages are getting better and management is more willing to listen to staff. Overall, I would recommend working here if you enjoy a challenge and are looking for professional growth in the legal field. 

A typical day will include any range of things.  All types of problems get sent into the helpdesk for example: Adobe updates, printer issues, dictation issues, software installs and much more.  I have learned a lot about how a helpdesk is run.  I have learned that it takes a lot of patience sometimes to get through a problem.  Management is wonderful!  The hardest part about the job is not always knowing the answers to the problems.  The most enjoyable part of the job is when a problem is fixed and the praise you get from the clients.

This is a great firm to work at.  You need to know your :"stuff" because you will be busy from day one.  It's a very busy law firm.

The firm is growing and recently went through some polishing.  Probably not the highest paying firm - but there are medical benefits including fitness memberships offered.

The people here are awesome to work with. A typical day is 9-5pm. Management is good and so is workplace culture. Working downtown you have to pay for parking which is a downfall but comes with the territory.

Great place to work. It’s truly a family. Everyone knows one another and it truly feels like we all push in the same direction, resulting in great synergies.

I worked there for 10 years, I no longer work there, but I can say I highly respect the firm, staff, lawyers and Partners.  
The partner and associate that I worked for are dedicated to their jobs and willing to teach. 

Toxic work environment. 
Poor management. 
Disrespectful lawyers who think they’re better than support staff. 
Steer clear of this firm at all costs. 
They go through staff like underwear. 
Don’t waste your time. 

There are several departments at Ross & McBride and I was lucky enough to have an excellent boss who made my time there enjoyable.  However, if you are looking to be paid a fair wage, you won't find it here.
