RSA used to he a great employer, however i now would not recommend it to anyone. The company has gone way down hill. Employees are over worked and under paid. Employees leave and no new hires to replace them, the work load is just added onto the other employees that are already drowning in work. You are essentially told to suck it up and be thankful you have a job. You are penalized when deadlines aren't met and they do not care if case loads are double what they should/used to be. All management from leads to executive's don't back their employees and play into office politics, (its like being in highshool with middle aged people.) Every department is micromanaged. There is zero job security. Overtime is expected however not paid. The office environment is toxic and nonexistent. The morale is below poor and nothing is being done to try and fix it. Benefits have been taken away and now employees have to pay more out of pocket for coverage. The benefits seem to decrease with every passing year even though RSA owns the benefit company. 
The only good thing is work from home in some departments.

Coming from a competitor, I've worked in the actuarial department for a few years. 

A lot of changes were happening when I joined and the priorities kept shifting, so some longs hours were expected, but the demand wasn't unreasonable.

However, things did settled down after a while, so the work-life balance was good and the salary is quite competitive among the other insurers.
The benefits were fair, although I never ended up using much of it.

Work-wise, there were some catching up to do compared to some main competitors. Due to some resource lacking, we had to work on pieces that other teams were suppose to work on, but that did make everyone more well rounded.

The department is quite young so there were a lot of activities among the department. I remember in summer, they would organize an annual 5km run/bbq day which you can bring your family and pets.

My team was great and ambitious, I became really good friends with some of my coworkers and kept in touch even after I left as we had similar hobbies. I had a great relationship with my manager and we still catch up from time to time. 

Overall, although I've only stayed at RSA for a few years, it was a good experience.

I was hired by Johnson Inc. (part of RSA Group).  Johnson employees were treated like the second class citizens of the RSA world (even though the majority of my time was spent working with RSA employees with a great deal of success).

In my almost 4 years at RSA, I found the company to be a very good one, overall.  Employees were treated well.  There are great benefits and very good work balance.  

The biggest challenge in my time there was the significant amount of change that took place.  Each year, the level of change increased.  It was difficult to have any job security which became increasingly difficult for someone that worked closely with front line staff.

The people hired are of a high level of education, overall.  As with most British based companies their definition of inclusion is in flux.  Up until recently diversity at RSA meant promoting females.  This appears to be changing; but, there are still some people in current roles that do not below there.

A terrible place to work after many years here.  Executives and management have made a complete mess of this company and now expect adjusters/support/underwriters to solve the problems they have created.
RSA used to have an amazing culture.  Now executives and management have destroyed that culture and told employees that if they do not like it, they can leave. 
Executives have no idea of what is involved in adjusting and do not listen.
A typical day at work is full of stress, unreasonable expectations, unreasonable workload, systems that do not work, no support for adjusters, so much wasted time and the list goes on and on.
Recent new employees are currently looking for a new employment.
This is an honest review from a long time employee.

Managers would constantly rotate, once every 4 months.  New manager always over-eager until crushed by endless meetings, but never around to discuss policy problems regarding clients.  Employees are over-worked then get fired for speaking their minds by 10+year manager with 1 CIP course.  There is NO work/life balance unless your idea of life is to be surrounded by claims 24/7.  Difficult to take a week off because all your claims have to be tended by another stressed out adjuster who can't handle the increased workload and despises you for gong on vacation.

The job was too much for me to handle. Your stats (numbers) will never be enough to please management. 

Front line managers have to make sure they squeeze every bit of productivity out of front line call centre staff. 

If you want to excel in this position you need to be able to sit for long periods of time, be able to handle criticism from your unit manager, volunteer for overtime, always have a positive attitude, be able to absorb a huge amount of constantly changing information, and be able to deal with rude customers on the phone several times a day. 

Having worked in both the Western Region (Calgary) and when the Mississauga Commerical Dept was in Hamilton, I can say that there are amazing people that work at RSA all across Canada.  I had to leave to raise my family, but RSA was the best place I have worked and I wish I had continued my career there.  Way ahead of their time with inclusion and diversity and the "team" mentality, as well as the home/ family/ work life  balance (I think they originated "flex time") needed to make a company successful.  Anyone who has the opportunity to work for RSA grab it and don't ever let go:)

Older reviews are true, RSA Canada used to be a great place to work for... Not any more!
Company keeps cutting heads, loading work onto existing, already overwhelmed employees. There is absolutely no direction. Transformation has been going for years and they must have lost a track of where the company should be headed. Executive management works in their favor only; not providing any honest communication to the rest of the organization. True talent leaves, because org culture is so poor. Benefits aren't that great either.

Worked in a Project based Environment creating new policies, amending and renewing old policies. Created daily reports that reviewed our productivity and analyzed system setbacks that our team encountered. Recorded team meetings, updates in system procedures and other projects our team worked on. Dealt with multiple policy conversions and policy reviews where our team notified other departments, finance and underwriting on policies that did not meet system protocols or needed to be reinstated.

The day is usually always busy. constantly have things to do and work on. My co-workers and I always worked together to achieve all our deadlines. the most enjoyable part of my job was getting to see everyone in the company, and getting to communicate with them on a daily basis. My manager was great. She never micro managed us, and was a joy to be around always. I learned a lot of the insurance role. The hardest part of my job was keeping all the brokers information up to date, so there are no future issues.
