Regina Public Library

There is a real difference between the atmosphere and culture at Central vs the branches. The branches are such pleasant and enjoyable places to work. Central is terribly depressing. I don't know whether it's the innate personalities of the Central staff themselves, or if they've been hardened by years of dealing with the challenges of serving downtown Regina's clientele, but everything about Central just really brought me down - both in the adult library and in the offices in the basement (I'm not sure about the children's library as this wasn't my domain).

I was happy to work there. I learned how to explain things others do not know. I liked when kids get to know something with my explanations, and thanking me for helping them. Also, I loved to meet another countries children and learn about their culture. 
My disliked thing with working with kids was their short concentrate on study. Most kids came with urgent homework. However, averagely after 30 minutes, they lose their focus and willing to go home. Then I had to encourage them so they can finish it.

Conducive and friendly environment as well as supporting staff

There is no major stress about working there though series of meetings and extra work for management staff sometimes

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
full of life and ready to deliver attitude of staff

Coworkers were very nice and work well together as a team.  The work can become a bit tedious and requires care.  A misplaced or not properly processed book could be lost for a long time.  The team was mindful to rotate all the tasks throughout the day and week so that no one person was stuck doing a task for so long that they would get repetitive strain or start getting careless.  The pay is good for what the job entails.  There are opportunities to pick up extra shifts and work at other branches for part timers.


Staff and co-workers were great. This would be a great place to work if it weren't for the micro-managing toxicity of upper management. Whenever there were difficult patrons (which are now referred to as "customers"), staff were told to write an incident report. Nothing ever came from it.

Working with the Regina public library was interesting, meeting new people, the staff was friendly, out going, pleasant. The building is shared with a theatre, children's play area, with staff

All employees input is taken into consideration on project outcomes. Teams' overall morale very positive on a day to day basis. Casual atmosphere when dealing with users as well as communicative on resolves to issues with their feedback.

Tje job was shelving and rganizing books and other library resource materials such as CDs, DVDs, magazines, newspapers etc. And organizing and maintaining public library spaces for public use. Very friendly team and management.

This was a great and interesting job as I worked on the book trailers when they were in existence and in the various smaller locations of the Regina Public Library.

Managers don’t listen to employee feedback, security guards are half asleep most of the time so employee safety is not taken seriously, and terrible HR department.
