At one time, Roofmart was a company that had a real familial atmosphere with experienced management who knew the industry and was generally a very good company to work for.  However, in recent years, that atmosphere has changed to a more corporate environment with new management that lacks emotional intelligence and treats the workers poorly with little to no respect.

New branch managers are being hired with no industry background, no people skills whatsoever and this in turn puts more strain on the workers, which negatively affects customer service.  It also creates toxic work environments, and workers feeling de-valued and disrespected (example: General Manager that will periodically visit branches and not even acknowledge the staff as he passes by them).  

Co-workers have generally been great to work with, but management is the main problem here... if you have an issue or concerns that requires assistance from HR, forget it - HR will usually side with the company and basically say whatever the branch manager says, goes.

This company no longer has any interest in your well-being, even though they will say all the right things.  The GTA Regional Manager is a complete joke - unqualified and unprepared for the role he currently holds and should have been put out to pasture a long time ago.  Roofmart (specifically the GTA region) will continue to suffer under his "leadership" as long as that person is there.  The new GM is too self-absorbed and arrogant to identify and properly support the one resource that this company still relies on the most to complete its day-to-day operations - its front-line workers.  He has stated several times to employees that if you don't like what goes on here, feel free to leave and go somewhere else... and while I can respect the candor, that is not something you would say to a prospective employee you want to potentially keep long term... as long as this continues, the company will keep spinning its wheels as its competition takes over and leaves them behind.

Having said all of this, I still believe Roofmart at its core is a good company to work for - good benefit package, decent hours (if you're not a driver), the work pace is very good, as long as you manage your time properly; and there are still some good people that work here.  But under its current management structure it is not a company that encourages long-term prospects.  If you need a short-term job and don't mind being spoken to like a child or an idiot, and not recognized for your efforts, then Roofmart is the right place for you.  Just don't make the mistake of trying to make a career here.  The only thing management (all levels) care about are their year-end performance bonuses, and how many of their workers' faces they have to step on to get it.

I was hired by this company and told I would be a full time employee after probation.  During my time there, the work was exhausting.  Overworked without enough staff because people quit and or move on to better things..In my personal opinion people leave because the woman in charge is horrible to work for. Her focus seems to be on batting her eyes at customers and dressing inapropriately.  The manager is a miserable person who swears at people and is clearly not capable of handling the position.  Full time never happened..three staff members left during a three month period and when probation was almost up the manager drummed up a story to end my career with this fabulous company.  The staff that work there are great people and helpful up front but the female boss there is loud, rude, swears allot has tantrums and treats her staff like garbage.   Do not waste your time.  Many things here could be done to reduce accidents and avoid injuries but how things look is more important to the company.  The boss said so herself. Roofmart gets a big 0.  Ps.  HR likes to say they want to hear from those who write about the company but its just to look good.  They don't care about keeping the good employees. All of the statements made in this review are my personal opinion.  Apply elsewhere.

Typical Day:
You are given tasks to do by your manager, in person, or via email. These tasks would range from brochures, promo flyers, email campaigns, etc. Most of the tasks will not have a set timeline or due date. You are expected to figure that out on your own. 
When you finish you would send what you made off to the manager, they would give you feedback and you make the appropriate adjustments. If you feel like you are running low on work, tell your manager and she will find something for you to do.

Independence:
Most of my work was done independently. The team is small and we have our own work to do. Rarely do we put our heads together to finish a project. I would not consider this a team-based job.

Manager:
The manager is friendly, flexible, and open to communication. Occasionally, she would check up with me on my mental health.

Environment:
I sat with up to 3 others in a small office. The majority of people were friendly. They would answer calls and talk amongst each other. It was a little distracting for me, but luckily I had earbuds. 

Job Length:
The job only lasted for a few months because it was a contract job. This was great for me because I already felt like I was getting stuck in a rut.

Working at Roofmart was a constant source of stress and disappointment. The leadership is completely unorganized, with no clear direction or structure, making even the simplest tasks confusing and frustrating. There’s a culture of blatant favoritism where only a select few get any recognition or perks, while the rest are left to deal with unrealistic expectations and heavy workloads. Management promises growth opportunities but never delivers—if anything, they’ll add more work without any additional pay or support. Performance reviews feel like an exercise in deception; they don’t reflect actual work but are designed to avoid giving raises. Morale in the office is abysmal, with most employees either actively job hunting or completely burned out. If you’re looking for a supportive, professional workplace, this is not it. Expect to be overworked, undervalued, and constantly frustrated. Working here was one of the most disheartening experiences I’ve ever had.

Am a smoker, an employee saw me cough (which is typical) and reported me to management as someone trying to conceal COVID symptoms. Management demanded that I go home immediately, rather than ask me about it. I understand the need to ensure safety and I tried to explain that I do cough quite frequently, not a new symptom by any means. However, when head office HR became involved, my input did not matter. Lost 3 days of pay, waiting for my negative test. Then, weeks later, I did feel ill, to comply with safety measures, I stayed home and got a test. Again, was negative, but to comply with safety measures, as all should, got tested because I had NEW symptoms. Was away 1 day, because of rapid result testing. When I returned to work following, was told I was being laid off, due to seasonal slow season, but letter given stated I was being terminated.

This company does not care about their employees, just the bottom line and sales. 

Having head office provinces away takes power away from branch managers who might actually have an idea about who an employee is or how things should be run for their specific location, and this is unreal. 

I got hired at roofmart sudbury and I was a new driver I started there at 16 an hour I worked for them for 4 yrs and in that time I received 40 cents in raises they offered bounes and then took them away I had to fight for my bones because they blamed me for something at the scales that was not my fault but fault of the company when I proved them wrong no apology or anything thing like that I was transfered to north bay and worked there for the rest of my term they moved locations and I reorganized the while wearhouse trained all the new employees in the warehouse and on the trucks they were hiring people at a higher wage then I was making when I asked for at least what a DZ driver was making they refused to pay me that and then told me the only way I would get a raise was if I learned the front counter on top of driving the truck working the warehouse when I left there i was making 16.40 an hour after 4 yrs being hired at 16 

, it is not a good place, it is run by ppl who do not believe in the 5 IKO core values and only talk about them on Tuesday mornings because they have too. ignorant fellow employees and managers are kept while hard working honest and what should be valued employees let go or leave because of the lack of integrity or honesty or fairness. management will intimidate bully or coerce employees via job loss to shut up or agree even when its not the truth or right. customers only matter when they spend lots of money, homeowners or small company do not get same treatment. most fellow employess are great ppl, but if you are not in the "office click" you will be treated differently. the turnover rate of employees is sad, they truly do not care about employees, only those who cheat and lie and mislead are believed by upper management. no wonder they have court dates will former employees.

-Well managed company, who had complete trust in their employees
- a very core group of employees, who worked well with each other, and complimented each other

-The hardest part, as they expected way too much of one person; you were married to the company

-The most enjoyable part was interacting with the staff and customers, as we had a wonderful clientele

This is a company where you get what you give. You put in hard work, effort, and a good attitude and you will reap the benefits. Top level management recognizes a job well done. 

The culture is great and people are fun to be around. The people here are easy to approach whether it is branch level or head office, all my interactions have been pleasant. 

You are actually given the resources you need to get the job done which not a lot of companies are willing to do. All you have to do is ask.

I've been given the opportunity to grow in my role, be challenged, and have been supported well by my Manager and team. 

What was once lacking is slowly improving as a lot of new processes, training, and technologies are being put into place.
