Terrible experience working as a manager at Rosewood in Vancouver. There is no empowerment or trust from the exec team. Almost every decision you make must be approved by the GM. They monitor your clock in times and whereabouts. The working environment is negative and stressful which in-turn impacts the patrons of the hotel. There is NO Rosewood culture or luxury standards practised at Hotel Georgia. There was also no training, no corporate orientations, no incentives, no team building or staff events. There is not one positive thing I gained from working here and the high turnover rate speaks for itself. The executive team needs a complete overhaul. 

The properties are beautiful and the level of service at the majority is on another level. There are some really good perks and you feel proud working for the brand. That said, generally the work/life balance is completely off and a lot of the properties are not progressive. HR says all of the right things and the company wants them to be at the level of Four Seasons (a little too much in everything they do) but does not practice what they preach. I have seen and heard of a lot of promises made but there is a reason why so many of the staff have left - they feel undervalued and really underpaid. There are definitely some success stories but those few don't make up for the 100s that fall to the waistside

Exceptional opportunities to advance if serious about your career, for those willing to continue their development once hired and are seriously passionate about the service industry. The company has been growing at a very fast pace and has created very exciting opportunities for management across the globe. Personally I have received three promotions in the past six years, the expectations can be high but equally is the support, mentorship and compensation. A lot of amazing opportunities coming available for those passionate about luxury service. I can not wait to see where the next six years lead.

Managers don’t look happy. The girl with the same position as me and training me was honestly the worst person I’ve met in my life. She will make you feel bad for any mistakes if she doesn’t like you. I’ve mentioned it to HR when I left but nothing much was said to me. Guests can be rude and managers don’t do anything about it. I’ve seen servers get treated horribly on a daily basis. I feel bad for those servers. Bad work culture with management and higher up who don’t care about your well being at all. You will burn out easily and the work environment isn’t fun at all. Free meals during your shift but that’s about it. 

Firstly, this place pays well to employees compared to other hotels but not enough for what we have to come through here.
Secondly, managers are bad, bossy doesn't give a .. of how tired we are. 
Thirdly, so stressful, that I have to do things that aren't even in my job description but I have to do it because they said so.
I honestly, worked here for years but haven't learned anything except for the fact that this is the worst hotel I have ever worked for! 
I mean everybody is leaving this place because of how sh..ty they are. 
Please stay out of this, especially the F&B team.

Working within the company became incredibly stressful after the new Managing Director came on board.  Very high demands and expectations, with very little to absolutely no positive encouragement to perform well.

It was a, "Do as I say, NOT as I do" environment, where managers from different departments were pressured from upper management, to force the workers to work harder for less reward.


My day starts at 7am - 3-30pm I begin my day with a pass on of what is occurred the night before. This information prepares us for how we are going to deal with high expectation guest or VIP guest either departing or arriving the day off. After I look forward to a pass on from my team mate who worked the night before. 
This information prepares in handling guest request and complaints if their is any.

Worst hospitality position I have ever held! I was threatened daily by my boss that I would be fired any day. I think this is a fear tactic they use to try and motivate the employees but living in fear of losing your job is the worst feeling ever, especially when you have a family to support. 

I am so happy to be with another luxury brand hotel now with higher pay and a fantastic boss!

During my exit interview from Rosewood I expressed serious concern about my boss and the way he treated staff and I am glad to hear he had left the company just a few weeks after I did.

The management is terrible.
They expect everything to be done quickly without any proper training.
We barely get any break time, so skipping meals often.
The constantly changing schedule just adds to the exhaustion.
There’s no training, and whenever we request vacation or anything else, the paperwork takes forever most of the time, there's no response at all.
Even though it's a union hotel, we get zero information or support from the union.
Reporting issues like workplace harassment to HR leads nowhere no response at all.
Honestly, it’s worse than a 2-star hotel on Hastings Street.


 

Rosewood Hotel Georgia, is great place for work, treating people with respect, with very clear vision for achieving targets.
Work culture is respect and cooperative.
good learning curve in any hotelier career to know what is really luxury service is.
Hardest part of the job is the stress on the guest's needs and anticipate the requirements in advance.
enjoyable part is the people who you are working with.
