Great coffee, great training, management very approachable and very hands on with the shops and easy to talk to. always felt like i had someone to go to and ask questions if i had any. 
with that being said, in some cases, it felt that if you were not a part of the clique, you won't survive there for too long and that shows on the amount of turnover they have. 
The employees that have been there the longest are the people who pretty much live and breath their job and so if you're not like that, you are going to be looked at as weird. 
I had a conflict with my direct manager after i was blamed by her by doing something that i didn't do, and so instead of letting me go (which had no grounds for anyway), she started tempering with my hours, and convinced the top manager to demote me. Non of what she said had any proof or grounds of legitimate issues, and yet the upper management took her word over mine. Not to mention, she made sure to hire her own friends, and her own brother - which apparently no one had an issue with. After not being able to afford working there anymore, i handed my notice only to find out later that she left 2 weeks after i did. 
Her lack of integrity and made up lies effected the opinions of the upper management and owners and as a result, effected my employment and eventually made me leave.

Advice to the company - be more selective with your management and leadership and don't take anything you hear as the only possible options of events that took place

It's been a while since I worked for rosso, but I'll assume things havent changed. 

The customers were my favourite part of the job. Most of my co-workers were great and helpful. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had. 

The good:
Free jar of coffee every month
Free coffee on the job
You learn everything about coffee- everything 
The cheese biscuit and Thai soup are seriously killer

The not so good:
After taxes and working full time, you make at most 22,000 a year (minimum wage). Store managers dont make much more than minimum either, yet they have three times as many duties than a barista. Tips are okay, but not enough to supplement income. 
Poor communication 
Extremely high expectations from management and upper management
The pay is not worth the amount of work you do. 

It's a good small company and I have hopes for them in the future.

If I could say something to management: pay your employees better and you will have less turnover. An employee that gets paid well Will benefit you more than paying 60 employees minimum wage.

The pay is abysmal (though tips are good), assistant managers get paid only $15.50 per hour when minimum wage is $15/hour while managers get paid $16-$18/hour depending on the store they run, they are promised full time (40 hours per week) and are given half to MAYBE 3/4s of that; the turnover rate is alarmingly high; the amount of change in how things are run from a week to week basis, and even day to day at times, is stressful and surprising that they don't have consistent practices set up after 10 whole years of business. It runs like a brand new company that isn't fully established and keeps trying to play catch-up!
The equipment seems to be constantly breaking as maintenance is not a high priority (unless it's broken but even then it takes an outrageous amount of time to get things fixed).
THERE ARE NO BENEFITS FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES! Managers get limited benefits, but there is no other benefits set up for the baristas, assistant managers, etc.

Owners are willing to say "Find an answer" instead of "This is the answer". They empower the team to work collaboratively to help the business grow and ensure ideas are heard and responded to.
This is a small BCorp-certified company; therefore, we follow lean methods to ensure sustainability but do our best to promote living wages, the ability to grow, and the opportunity to learn consistently throughout an employee's tenure.
I have been with this company for 6 years and I have assisted in creating a positive team culture and promoting an inclusive environment for all. 
One of our pillars is constant improvement, it speaks to our desire to be better every day and find ways to implement better practices across all areas of our business.


Only briefly worked here and I quit very quickly due to not getting the hours I requested or being paid the amount that I was promised in the interview. I did enjoy working with some of the people there but the manager at the location I worked at was childish, condescending, and had a weird habit of making inappropriate remarks to me and crossing boundaries a manager absolutely should not with their subordinates. I felt extremely uncomfortable with him and it was the main reason I quit after a few shifts. Breaks were also unpaid which I thought was ridiculous because I've worked for smaller companies than this one and received full pay for my breaks, it's clear the company is trying to cut costs in every way possible, even at the expense of their underpaid and underappreciated employees. 

Over worked & Underpaid. A lot of people can't do their job, so you must step in as no one else will be there, Such as dealing with delivery and customers... which takes away from your actual job you are supposed to be doing, can be pretty stressful. Constant battle between the packager and the pickers, as you are the only one doing all the packing for their entire business, you cannot keep up. My advice to Rosso, schedule the picker(s) at a later time than the packager so that the packager doesn't need to stress constantly about keeping up and having the racks empty. Would have loved to stay, but nothing on their end was offered. Seems like you are simply to replaceable here, not much is appreciated. If you end up working here, just do the minimum as they give the minimum, and you may be happy.

Worked here a few years ago as a store manager and it was horrible. At the time they were looking for ways to incentivize employees through a point system when they literally could have just paid more money. They operate their cafes on skeleton crews because they won't allow the cost of labour to be more than 20% of the cost of sales. Managers are paid just above minimum wage and they are very against minimum wage increases. On top of that, they will write you up for discussing wages amongst employees and encourage managers to write up employees for this when this is a protected right in Canada to discuss wages. This job was the hardest I've ever worked for the least amount of money and I strongly recommend that anyone who considers applying for a job here looks elsewhere. 

Working at rosso was the worst job i ever had. I only lasted 6 months and in those 6 months, I needed to take time off for my mental health. The general managers stalked my social media to see what I was up to on my days off and would berate me for it when i would come back. They talked trash about me in front of the rest of the cafe managers saying that I was the wrong hire. They actively brought in a new assistant manager and was training them to take over my role and was phasing me out. When I was hired, they said that nobody in the history of the company got 2 weeks of on the job training with one of the general managers and that I should be grateful. Cafe managers made 50c more than minimum wage with 10x the expectations. I will never ever support this company again. 

Constant issues with equipment working, and rather than send it out of shop they’ll have you work around it (there’s not enough space for even three people back there). 
Appears to be a high turnover since even the assistant managers have been their for 6 months max. 
Very weird work culture, people will be streaming their home cameras while at work. So basically watching tv while on shift. But the newer employees are expected to be always doing something. 
Very high expectations for a minimum wage job. They say that your tips are part of your wage compensation, but everyone in the company gets those tips. 
Very much a company trying to grow beyond its capabilities. 

You're promised an average hourly tip bracket but you'll be lucky to get the minimum advertised . Very hard work for minimum pay. They expect you to train others, open and close the store all for the same pay!! Assistant/ manager pay is also a joke. They expect you to live and breathe Rosso for the bare minimum pay. Absolutely NO work life balance. The schedules are sometimes done days before your scheduled shift, not the managers fault as clearly the owners expect the world of them  for no pay. By far the worst place i've ever worked.
