From new reviews looks like lots have changed in last few years in my time it was rather bad. Management was delusional, workers were untrained and half of them should never work in this field in the first place as they had no compassion or care for the people supported. In my 10 years there were 5 HR coordinators so the rotation was crazy. Even in your location people would be moved around, as to not for any relationships. Ridiculous performance reviews every year even though everyone was "graded" pretty much the same no matter how well you worked.  No attention paid to worker, schedule was a mess, hours miscounted constantly, for 10 years I checked every single pay stub. And until recently, when young open minded  and smart individuals started taking over, the mentality was to medicate the life out of people so they are docile and not cause issues. 

What was once considered a bright spot in Hamilton is now an embarrassing shell of the former agency they used to be. Once praised for their sense of community and family, this agency has abandoned that core mission and instead view residents as dollar signs and staff as grey faces. If you care for your loved one and want an agency that feels like they care just as much then please look somewhere else as I wouldn’t want anyone or their family member subjected to what the new vision of this company has in-store. The pay is good.

I started my PSW experience at St. Olga's for school. I enjoyed waking up & going to Clinical Placement each day. I loved the client I was given, he would always make me laugh. The hardest part of this experience is that it was my first experience so I would often forget that I'm still learning & beat myself up if I did something wrong. The most enjoyable part of this experience was playing cards with my client because this would brighten his day & it made me feel good about myself at the end of the day that I could do that for him.

It is often your responsibility to figure out who is going to relieve you. Schedule changes constantly impossible to book anything ahead of time. Then told you have to work those dates and have to do a switch when there are no staff available to do so. 

Though there is great programming available for those supported and the home environment care allows for people living with disabilities as close to a “normal” life as possible. It’s unfortunate that there’s such issues with scheduling and lack of support from management.

New management has created  no balance at home and work. Management is all friends and family.  They will not cater to personal schedules but are to  be available  every moment even  when you have booked holidays. Most team leads are very toxic and not qualified to do their job. Because of all this, they have lost half their staff..
They don’t offer full-time They have their part-time working full-time hours  and no benefits. 
Management just does not care about you
The pay is good.


The good thing about Rygiel is the individuals supported and some fellow employees.  The negatives: there is NO communication from management to workers. If there is interaction it is usually to punish employees. This company is ruthlessly cutting hours and will blame staff for everything that is their responsibility that they failed at. There is no support.  The toxic stressful and fearful environment here overshadows any good. 

As a former psw, It's a great place to work if you don't mind or enjoy taking care of disabled adults, but you will start casual. Takes years and years for part time, then to eventually make it to full-time you are ready to retire. 
Due to seniority, it's impossible to get full-time but if you are a person who can handle 2-3 jobs at once and have a good happy attitude go for it.

Very poor, stressful, clients abuse staff and staff has no support

Stressful daily very unstructured,  left to problem solve alone.

caring environment!  Staff are encouraged to keep up their professional training, participate in extra curricular, fun events and engage in a loving, supportive way to the individuals they are supporting.
