Work life balance is great for being a nurse and the program I work. Unfortunately I've had to take on private care to make ends meet because I love my job there but I can't afford basic house and car. My house is 359 2 years ago with a husband who pays half and works for the government and I have the most cheapest basic of cars. We do not live beyond our means we are very money savvy... I don't get paid enough. It's a sacrifice I made leaving a good paying job with lots of hours but shift work for Monday to Friday. Made the leap too fast and here I am still working two jobs. Anyhow don't email them about anything because they just ignore the message, when you email a second time still ignored, and likely on the third time they will apologize claim it went unseen and still not even address the concern. Imagine emailing being ignored for over a week for them to answer that email asking you to elaborate and that email going "unseen" for another week and half... some will say call them. Nope, because I prefer to have communication in writing... also I've tried to call my designated people in an emergency... and NOBODY answered... lol

This company is not organized, the right hand has no idea, what the left is doing.
They are incompetent.
They lack good communication skills and understanding.
When a company is not organized or does not have good management, it reflects negatively on the whole of the company and trickles down, to the staff.
I worked for this company for over 16 years, and if I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now.  I would have never been such a faithful, hard worker. I would have found another job.  After, 16 years, when I was no longer able to do my job, because of medical injuries and health problems, due to all my years of service with them.  I was told there was no place for me to go, no position for advancement, or relocation, and no severance package, of any kind or  compensation.  I was forced to quit essentially. BEWARE, WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY IS LIKE A PARASITE, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR BEST YEARS AND ESSENTIALLY LEAVE YOU WITH NOTHING IN THE END.


I worked in this new facility for almost a year. The building is great, Points West staff is great and almost all my co-workers are great. Then you get into upper management. It's terrible, we are under staffed and under paid for all the hard work we do. They have orientation after orientation and hardly any new staff stays. The scheduling is awful, they are filling up cottages knowing theres not enough staff. Its unfortunate because the only people who suffer are the residents. Management may think we love it there but 99% of staff talk only to each other and no one likes to go to work which is a awful feeling. They are losing great staff because they cant get it together. And upper management is out East so our pay, our vacations, everything has to be approved by someone who doesn't know you. Its unfortunate but I really cant say very much good about working there. I just wish the other staff who are no longer there would be honest and put a review up.

I started with SEHC as a new grad over ten years ago and I'm grateful for the experience. The team had some really supportive nurses that helped and some that clearly only looked out for those in there own circle but you could always find someone to support you with any challenge. Has 24/7 resource team to help with any concerns and the onboarding training is very detailed and well conducted.  If you are efficient and plan your days well, the pay should be great.  The more dedication you show, the more hours you are given. On call is probably the worst part about working in the community, especially if you don't live in the community you work in but it's only a few nights a month depending on the team your on.   
Overall, a good company to work for with a lot of support for increasing your nursing skills. 

*If you want to increase your pay- get certified in all the extra tasks such as dialysis and compression wraps. These visits tend to be quick and pay well. 

Supportive management if you are doing your job well!
I was very fortunate to have a set, reliable & permanent schedule( which is unusual in home care) Although I know a lot of my co-workers had constant complaints regarding scheduling. Office co-ordination can be frustrating  with turn over & favoritism.
You must be firm with your availability & refuse to work outside of it or you will be over scheduled & over worked. Travel time is hardly ever scheduled(unless you demand that) so you will be working well past your availability. Like all health care, PSW's in particular, pay is not enough for what is expected of you.
Overall my employment with SE was positive but there is definite room for improvement within the organization, starting with BETTER PAY.

The management sucks and so do the coordinators. They promised to give me full-time hours and I never received them. The pay sucks too. You don’t get paid enough to even survive. I worked as a visit nurse and as soon as my probation was up and the company was expected to give me benefits that is when they let me go. There were other nurses that I thought were good people and they turned out to be back stabbing two faced people that I was working with.  I will never recommend anyone to work for this company. They don’t pay you when you are driving to your next client and the nurses don’t have the luxury to finish on time they always end up working later, but then they don’t make any extra money. You have to have your own vehicle to work in home care. They don’t pay you for the mileage until your drive more than 25km.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Management for the clinic was the best Management I ever had. Pay was ok but slow on the increases as they are not union. There is a staff association to help navigate issues should you have any. Corporate however can't seem to communicate with employees/ branches, I returned my assigned equipment to my branch office and they called for 6 months after looking for it despite being told it was returned. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short times to complete all tasks for care. Extra duties not payed extra for.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The clinic was a welcoming supportive environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fast paced, lots of critical thinking.

Right off the back I can say I was annoyed to finding out I was lied to at my interview. They do not give raises after 6 month or yearly. So they will hire you at the lowest amount possible and you are stuck there for 2+ years. 

I love my manager and the people I work with. Most of my patients are absolutely amazing. Overall aside from the unfair pay I do love my job. 

I know how much the company charges per client hourly and even with overhead costs, someone in upper management is lining their pockets which the nurses and managers get little pay. Its unbelievable how they justify their actions. 

I fully understand why this company has such a high turn over rate. They will continue to have a turn overrate if they dont start paying their employees a fair wage. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
They honour life and work life balance too much. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having enough hours and clients are far from each other., no travel time slot and not enough pay. They squeeze clients in between with the same time slots so when you call the clients they get upset because they have asked for a specific time. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Managers are nice easy to talk to but they don't really do much action.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lots of gap and siting and waiting in your car for the next client. Working from 8am-4pm but only get paid like 5-6 hours because of the gaps.

I was hired and they chnaged my location two times because they didn't have enough contracts. I was told to drive back and forth for 45 mins one way for sometimes a teo hour shift or sometimes 3 hours shift. When asked about hours and clients that was promised during the hiring time they have no answers. Poor Supervisor with barely any supervisor skills. No support from the supervisor,  the manager or the HR. Everyone is worse the  other. They wasted my 2 months.
