I've been with this law firm for over a year now and have really enjoyed it! The office culture is wonderful - it feels more like a family than a work place. My colleagues are all warm and friendly, and management truly cares about the well-being of staff. There are several firm-wide annual events and monthly team events that everyone looks forward to. Great benefits program, salaries are competitive and there is room for growth within the firm. The work itself is challenging (never a dull moment) and the environment is fast-paced - but there is a "work hard, play hard"  mentality and healthy work-life balance. Overall, very happy with my experience here so far!

The turnover is high. There is no job security. If you have kids, a mortgage anything. They will fire you and hire someone they can pay at a lower rate without any experience. It’s a revolving door. The people are nice but it’s all about money. I was there for years and let me go to hire someone at a cheaper rate. They told me nothing was wrong with my performance but they laid me off. I have a family and real life. Ive seen them do it to so many people but I thought there were underlining issues with those people. I guess you have to experience it to know. They do not gives raises.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being at work.  Most toxic environment I have ever worked in.  The people with no education who just got lucky in their job think they are better than everyone there and down talk they other employees 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic and HR and Partners know and don’t do anything about it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Being stressed and overwhelmed

Staff is cliquey, everyone is miserable, management is verbally abusive and think very highly of themselves. Assistants are treated like they’re disposable and sub-human. There is no uniformity in how documents are prepared so if working for multiple lawyers, procedures will always be different. On the bright side, the walk to your car is usually long enough to have a good cry if you’re lucky enough to actually find a parking spot in downtown Hamilton. Look elsewhere. 

If you enjoy working hard, in a fast paced environment, Scarfone Hawkins is perfect for you. Many different practices in various areas of laws. There are a number of perks including Donut Fridays, catered lunches and breakfasts. As well as comprehensive benefits packages. They are also fair with time off and make up time when needed. 

Overall a good company!

I enjoyed my time working at the firm. The firm supported work/life balance. Great people to work with.  Management cared about their employees. Just like any workplace during the pandemic, it could be a challenge to have employee engagement when most were working virtually.  

the partner I worked for was vile and terminated me because I was in the middle of a legal separation and I cant apply for the job I want because I have to fill out these stupid reviews first

Lots of gossiping, cliques, old fashioned mindset. Some good people to work for there but not enough to make it worth it. Don't expect to get positive attention - they only notice you when you screw up.

Great place to work. Great work atmosphere and dynamic. They are patient and ensure time is set aside for training. Benefits are amazing and pre covid did alot of work related activities that were fun and engaging. 

It was a pleasure working here as there were many benefits and hours. The staff were nice and there were growth opportunities which enabled me to become manger within 2 years!
