      It is a privilege to work with all staff and students to be apart of the next generation and help and be an asset to the team. I wish there was better job security; more access to contracts, benefits, vacation and full-time employment sooner rather than later in my career. Being on the relief list can be a challenge in having limited job security. I think EAs should have better pay honestly, when comparing the cost of living...
     I recommend this job because I see the benefit of how a student can grow when needs are met. That is when students and classrooms soar, teachers can have the maximum impact on their students with that assistance in the room.  Thank you for reading!

As you can tell by the title , As an educational assistant, you will be expected to do miracles with no extra support often trying to support multiple students at once , Some falling between the cracks because they are not behavioural or aggressive… Even though those students were the ones who got the funding for support. Your administration will range From super supportive to expect you miracles out of now.. In some schools, you will feel like you are equal to teachers well other schools you will feel as though you are less than trash. Proceed with caution this job can be very rewarding, but rate of burn out is far higher than it used to be so take your days off and lean on the union as much as you can.

I love working with kids. I dislike that I'm paid so low and often considered "just a warm body". I'm qualified and do a good job but I'm treated poorly and paid even worse. I stay in the supply list because I like my job and I work days where I need a short work day. I would never work full time for the board though as an EA. Not for the assaults from students and the mistreatment I recieve from students, coworkers, and the government.

The day is fast paced. Children, parents and teachers all come and go throughout the day, the phones are often busy, and very few days are the same. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping the children and answering their questions. The hardest part of the job was dealing with irate parents who took their anger out on the secretaries at the reception desk.

My days are filled with smiles and laughs. I work in a positive environment where everyone is focused on the well being of one another. SCDSB is a family the upholds a set of values including; Empathy, Courage, Respect, Integrity, Inclusiveness, Honesty and Compassion.

SCDSB is an excellent employer that offers opportunities to learn and grow as a teacher. I enjoyed the friendly staff and team builders. There were many workshops and conferences offered to learn new skills.

I worked for the SCDSB for five years and I thought it was a decent place to work. I met lots of nice people during that time but also lots of lazy people. The lazy people will try and make you do all their work and then take credit for it but you get that everywhere.

Very supportive, lots on incentive , fare wages. Union protects its members and ensures that support is given when needed. Only drawback is it can sometimes become stressful when dealing with behaviours from students.


Great place to work with exposure to many learning experiences, as an EA to work as a team member involving teachers, social workers, physio therapy,etc.
