SHUMAKER

The shoes are garbage, straight from China with a high price tag on them.  And they expect you to sell, sell, sell....or else!
They expect you to do training on line, on your own time..... against the labor laws.  About 20 hours and no pay for it.
They have ridiculous expectations on sales.  If you want more hours, then you better sell alot of shoes.  Which basically means you have to pressure people into buying.  Alot of the shoes get returned because of the pressure, or because they realize how cheap the shoes are.
Management is a joke.  They like to hire dumb dumbs to manage, cause then they won't realize how much of a scan the business really is.  Ever heard of private labelling.
Co-workers will stab you in the back to keep their job.  Find yourself a real job.  Don't think this company will last the long hull.

i worked at the pickering town centre location. The environment was very friendly, however the management was horrible. I was promised 20 hours as that is what part-time employees should get. My hours decreased from 24 hours to 6 hours because upper management requested to cut everyones hours because not enough sales were being made. All the employees worked very hard to make sales, but the mall is very slow and management expectations were too high. The assistant manager started firing associates because the amount of hours provided were not sufficient to distribute to all associates. There is no job security here! And the current assistant manager is very unprofessional, I witnessed her swear at another employee in front of a customer.

The only good thing about Shumaker is my manager and the experiences with customers. Shumaker is such a junior company and expect so much for such a little company,  if you do not meet their standards then you are fired( literally). They are not reasonable and really you would think none of head office are even people. Everybody that works for Shumaker, hates the company but loves the coworkers. The pay sucks, and you are expected to do unpaid training online that takes DAYS and if you need to stay late at work past close, expect them to question it! Also, workplace bullying is so very real in this company.  cheap cheap, poor business. 
btw, you will get a 50% off discount but the shoes are poor quality and none of them are really worth their dollar. 
Save yourself the time and go apply at any shoe store but Shumaker.

The quality of the products is poor, and there is little training on product knowledge. 
DM and upper management have poor communication with managers and there is mixed directions given.
Negative environment and very underpaid.

The stores themselves are lovely to work in, new and modern fixtures.

Daily tasks are relatively simple and doable.

Promises of advancement are useless and there is now pay-raise program. 

I would not recommend working for these people.

I learned a lot of things from Shumaker and among all of these i want to highlight two important aspects And they are, how to connect with customers and how to manage work and personal life together. The work place is very friendly and so as the management. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is when i can make a sale. Initially the hardest part for me was to connect to customers which i gradually learned and i think in a very short span of time i can easily do that now.

Two things that angered me the most was the fact that I was not told during the interview that the main focus was meeting sales targets. So basically I'm a saleswoman not a customer service woman and that's not who I am. The second issue that angers me and that I have never experienced in all my working years that the online training wasn't paid. It was 18 hours of unpaid training!

Working for Shumaker is like working for a dream. There is constant communication between your store and others as well as with upper management. The training for product knowledge is a little extensive at the beginning but is totally worth it in the end! You leave your time working there knowing things about basic footwear that you can carry with you when shopping yourself. All around a great company to work for.

Location.  I did a lot more than my job role as an associate.   I was a key holder but for no extra pay.  I did shipping and receiving, managerial duties etc. 

I eventually moved to the east gate location which I helped to open. I ran the store as manager while mine was away with no extra pay or help.  



I loved working here, the training was very in depth and my district manager was always available if i needed anything.  All store managers worked as a team. Just a great fun environment

I really learned a lot about how to sell because of how much 1on1 there is with customers. Got along with managers and coworkers amazingly too! especially nice having the discount and extra commission on top of the minimum wage.
