SIGIS Child Care Society

I worked at SIGIS for 2 days. I have good experience and training in childcare and at all my other jobs working with kids i have gotten very positive reviews from my supervisors. I am a naturally shy person so it often takes me a bit of time to warm up to the kids, especially on my first/second day . After my second day at SIGIS 3 managers, including one I had never met before, pulled me aside into a room threatening to fire me because i was 'cold and unapproachable' and the kids didn't feel comfortable around me (oddly, this was right after i had spent a good amount of time on the floor with a few of the kids that asked ME to come play with them and help them),  and saying they were surprised that my university supervisors from my practicums passed me because i was not good with kids. (keep in mind, sigis management gave me zero training or support before this meeting) they even said that child care may not be my chosen career path and insulted me as a person rather than giving me tips or trying to make me feel less nervous. Never have i been judged so quickly or treated so poorly by managers at a childcare facility. Needless to say i quit the next day and found a new job where i am treated with respect.

Horrible place to work. Worked there for 5 years and all I can say is STAY away. The directors are absolutely ridiculous in terms of their expectations and their "support" which is them coming to sit down with the staff and explain how "we need to communicate with our friends", meaning our coworkers. If an employee calls in sick or for a "mental health day" which happened far too many times to even count, you're expected to stay and work regardless if you have another job to get to, a doctors appt, a child to take somewhere. Nothing but gossip all the time and extremely cliquey. As a staff who worked there for years, I felt unbelievably unsupported by the directors as they only have their own interests in mind. The employees gossip about other children, parents AND other staff in front of the kids (happens very often when half day kinders are there for the afternoon). Not to mention, the cleaning that is done at the end of the day is often done by kids who are bribed with candy because the staff are too lazy to vacuum and mop themselves. Huge disappointment of a company, they need an HR department because the directors are useless.

I started working for SIGIS was a part time employee and advanced to full time after a short period of time, and now have had the opportunity to advance to supervisor. SIGIS has very high standards in terms of cleanliness, room set up, child interactions, and commitment to the job. But I believe that this is what makes SIGIS a step above everywhere else. A large company that employs mostly women, is bound to have some gossipy/cliquey tendencies. Which can be frustrating at times but I have made many life long friendships. Management don’t always appear to be on the same page, and SIGIS has grown a lot in the last number of years. But I know that when I truly need the Directors that they’ll be there for me. 

Overall I highly recommend SIGIS as a workspace. But be prepare to experience a job in Child Care like no other.

I was a part-time staff at SIGIS for a short time- I had to quit due to poor treatment from my supervisors. They were incredibly condescending and rude to part-time staff. They made us clean their dirty dishes (not in the job description), and do ALL the cleaning while they sat on their butts eating with the full-time staff. If you didn’t complete a cleaning task in under 20 mins, they would submit a complaint. I was made to feel like an idiot, as I was ridiculed and criticized for nearly everything I did. They were also extremely condescending towards me. They took advantage of the fact that I was a quiet high school student and made me feel inferior. I would come home crying everyday and question my self worth. I’m so glad I quit, I’m so much happier now. I will say, I miss the kids though.

I volunteered at SIGIS when I was a little girl and so as I grew up I decided to apply as an employee but sadly I was let go. The communication is very poor. I was told that I was late and my manager was telling the head organizers instead of correcting me on the spot. I was unaware that I was expected to show up for a 7am shift at 630am and not get payed for the extra 30min of work. The management does not make me feel secure in my job rather I felt very anxious and always on edge because I loved the kids and my job and didn't want to be let go. 

Poor management, gossipy co workers, very much like a clique environment. Job is easy enough but overall just not a fun environment. Was there for a while and never involved in any work co worker group chats, never knew what was going on, never any feedback but expected to know what to do. No training for the job but just expected to do it perfectly. 
Would only recommend as a short time thing. Have heard the job described as “SIGIS owns your soul” from co workers. The kids are great and easy to manage and never really had to deal with anything too bad which was nice. 

My experience with this workplace was very bad and stressful. The supervisors were short-tempered. If employees commit even the slightest mistakes, expect trash talks and scolding in front of either kids or other employees. They expect you to live up to their crazy and unrealistic standards. Cleaning and toy set-up are more prioritized than the kids. They never affirm the efforts staff make. Very sarcastic and unprofessional supervisors!

I loved working at SIGIS, I connected with families and truly believe I grew as an individual. The management though is not professional, my full time job was taken away when I was on a leave for a week due to an injury. I was basically forced to quit. I do know many people who love working there and do believe it is a safe environment for any child to be. The staff love each child as there own and do their very best to help them develop.

Great place to work if your willing to work hard and put children’s care first. Sigis pays well and I’ve always received support when I’ve asked. I have seen Directors and supervisors go above and beyond for our centres. The ppl I’ve seen fail at Sigis don’t want to work hard,or as a team.If your able to be honest and communicate effectively it’s a great place to work.

Great place to work, its so much fun to play all day and be creative on so many levels! SIGIS is growing very fast, and i believe that its growing to fast for management can handle. Can be disorganized at times and lack of communication.
