The title says it all. I was hired at a minimum wage and it didn't matter in the beginning since it was an entry level position. Once hired, I was half a** trained and expected to learn on the fly. After few months on the job, I found it to be very boring, repetitive and annoying to deal with truck drivers who sometimes come in smelling like alcohol. Typical day of work required you to gate in and gate out as many trailers that come in within your shift  regardless of the weather conditions. 

In terms of receiving a raise , I was told by management that I would never receive a raise when according to the contract, all guards are to receive a raise after the 6 month mark. 

People were running from this company so much they brought it an incentive where if you had someone referred to the company and stayed for 3 months , you would receive $100! I don’t know how many people cashed in on that but I wouldn’t be surprised if I could count them on my hand. 

Management didn’t care about guards unless they were favourited. There were many times people didn’t show up to work to relieve guards and management were not reachable or told us we had to “wait” until someone showed up or they found someone with no regard of what you had to do after work.

People leave the job so much there are always hours available to work if you’re interested. Everything is always in the best interested of the client before the guards themselves. 

The hardest part of the job was constantly being on site during the winter time when the heater in the gatehouse barely worked. The most enjoyable part of the job was the comical employees you worked with for a couple of weeks and never saw again after.

Typical day we get to site with high expectation of arriving earlier than scheduled time. Most co-workers are all nice and friendly to each other due to challenges faced together against the company.
The hardest part of the job is that the management and supervisors do not teach or train you properly and there is no set manual. Every day we get new problems that were not taught to us and the management expects us to solve it. There is no benefit what so ever this includes the uniforms that we need to get and shoes that we need to buy. Equipment are poorly provided, seldom is there a full set of equipment needed for personal safety and regulation(There is just not enough for all the guards). Nice thing is you can meet some really nice people, but again my experience with this company grows worse and worse each day. Most of the co-workers are looking for a different company within a month.Expects guards to do jobs that are out of training such as IT works and there is not enough workers to cover when you need to go and do a patrol, even in situations when you have enough guards it takes about 10 minutes for the other guard to arrive to give back up.

I felt we were understaffed 80% of the time i worked with this company which caused me to take extra shifts often, which isnt bad at times, but i was left with little to no social life. And when they did hire someone, sometimes they weren't right for the job and you had to pick up the slack.

However i did become a TL and gain a lot of leadership qualities. If your work hard they will promote you. I learned to act with confidence under pressure. Improve my problem solving skills.

Management however was the worst part of the job, nice people but i felt bad management skills. They did a poor job hiring. and would fire someone on the spot before finding a replacement which would normally take a month which puts more pressure on you. I felt they werent so understanding. they cared more about keeping the client happy instead of their employees, and i always felt happy employees will cause a happy client. also i felt it was extremely micromanaged.

i was working as full time Security Guard and performing my regular duties at customer"s  site location.at Gate house. Performing  IN / OUT BOUND  OF Trucks and Trailer"s movements from DC TO OTHER DC location. also handling loads docments and handing to drivers when after office hours.and Weekend hours. it was busy site , which keep me and other shift guard busy with trucks and trailers movements. Also conduct site patrol duties as required. the most hardest part of my job is to handle truck drivers and contractors.

Its was a good site to work at, most of warehouse associates were good and friendly and willing  to help as needed. And also Team Leaders were very helpful  and friendly  too, when there is issues  in the work place. We could together  resolved  in vey short timely manner.without any delays  in busy schedules.

Friendly behaviour of seniors and accommodating their staff . 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing,  we can request any time to our supervisor for any problem. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is good  and everyone is like a family.

First day of my job here with a senior staff.

Skanna is the worst security company one can ever work for. The management is absolutely worthless. Minimum pay and zero benefits. The company Director is most ignorant and disrespectful person who doesn't even know how to talk to the employees. The scheduling process is a joke in itself with no regards of employee's availability. Highly biased company where only a few people work for long time.
This company is a wastage of time.

During a typical workweek, one of my biggest tasks is checking in on my staff and assessing progress on various projects. I like to meet first thing on Mondays to discuss our priorities for the week, then meet again in the middle of the week to check progress, and once at the end of the week to discuss goal setting for the next week. I meet with smaller groups of my staff in the middle of the week to troubleshoot any issues.

My time at Skanna was a mixed bag working day to day with my coworkers was great got along with everyone and never had any issues with anyone in my 1 year there, Upper Management while they sometimes tried being helpful often times just wouldn't be bothered with some of the concerns the workers had at the site although I don't know their financial situation they often times came across as cheap or stingy.

I applied online. They called me 2 days later to schedule an interview. they offered two locations for the interview depending on where I live. interview was short and straight forward. Started work the next day. The shift passes quickly when its busy and i work with 2 other guards in gatehouse.
