SOLID GENERAL CONTRACTORS

I would not recommend working at Solid's Ottawa office.

Before the negatives, I will first say that some of the team there are really great folks that are delightful to joke around with. Also, while sometimes stressful, the work can be rewarding. 

That having been said. There are elements of the management in the office that can make it a unpleasant place to work. Let me be clear, however that it is only part of the management. 

My experiences were that certain mangers were exceptionally poor leaders who did not provide their team with the proper support. They would be quick to point out a team members errors while equally quick to gloss over their own. 

Furthermore the work a team member does well, and, in fact goes above and beyond will go unrecognized. Not even "well done." 

Should you make a mistake. You can expect it to be treated as a grave error and to be called on to be reprimanded for it. Quite likely have your job threatened. 

Also, while the senior management is made aware of these issues no action was taken and there is a significant double-standard in how some staff are treated in contrast with others. 

One other point to note. I both witnessed myself and had fellow teammates tell me that some managers will speak poorly of other team members behind that persons back.  

All of these factors lead to a workplace that can be exceedingly unpleasant to go into every morning, and could fairly be considered toxic. Again not everyone. But enough of it that I would avoid working there if at all possible.

• Lead the planning and implementation of project.
• Estimate materials, labour and additional costs
• Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables.
• Define project tasks and resource requirements.
• Assemble and coordinate project staff.
• Manage project budget.
• Manage project resource allocation.
• Plan and schedule project timelines.
• Track project deliverables using appropriate tools
• provide direction and support to project team
• quality assurance
• Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.
• Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions
• Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs.
• Project evaluations and assessment of results.

Does not pay trades. Contracts are already minimum and tradea waiting 3-6 months for payment makes it nearly nothing. Treat employeea the same. Minimum wage compared to skill, no vacation, minimum vacation to employment standards and lower on other things if you do not call them on it. 
 

It was a decent company to work for the first 5+ years.
Then there was a change in management, between that and being micro managed by head office things went downhill.
No honor or loyalty in that company.

Treated Workers Like Children, shouting at them over silly things.

refused to change into paperless work. complained when paperwork went missing after being handled by 5 different people

I enjoyed working at solid it was a very friendly work environment and pretty relaxed everyone was willing to help if you came across any issues I would recommend working for this company

This company was overall a great company I worked at. I was provided with a truck, cellphone, gas card, 407 permit, supplies, uniforms, and a $100 monthly PO (for buying essential tools needed).

Was a great company under the last President and VP. New guys are all fighting for top job and not interested in making the company a success. 
Really does not respect the trades.
