The size of the site required transportation into units. This was a disadvantage for employees required to be dressed and in the unit by 7:00am.  For the most part, supervision stayed out of the way of the workers.  While it made for an efficient day, it caused a lot of the workforce to feel more like just a number.  No individual pats on the back or attaboys, but the company did provide valuable safety awards.  The hardest part of the job was travelling into the plant, gearing up, and then walking a few blocks to our units on our time.  The most enjoyable part was having material consistently staged and available.

I worked 10 hr days Mon to Fri working with a 4 man crew. The journeyman pushed me hard to give them the supplies they needed for the job at hand. i worked in a tight atmosphere but i gained alot of knowledge and worked really hard. My coworkers were very knowledgeable about our job and explained things thoroughly about what we were doing. The hardest part of the job was hoisting up all the material to the pipe rack.. some were over 50 lbs and i would do that for hours on end.

Doesn't matter how hard you work, in this industry, it's who you know that keeps you employed. Women at a hair salon don't whine like Scaffolders do. The hardest part about this job, is watching everyone cut throat each other, then shake hands with the same person they were just bashing behind their backs. Good money, but you're only working here and there. The most enjoyable part of the job, besides going home, putting in earphones to drown out the social vomit.

Monitor workers for safety and behavior 
Perform orientations
Set up complete filing system for the safety dept
Conduct site safety tours and inspections
Prepare the weekly safety meetings
Meet with upper management daily to update stats and pertinent information
Order and maintain safety equipment
Liaison between workers and supervision

Not knowing if you had to work the next day

Not that bad depending on the job

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was pretty busy at times  having to share the elevators with other trades

I learned alot working here and was given alot of good opportunities, but the company has been heading down hill for awhile. Management has no concerns over their employee's and will screw over anyone to make themselves look better. They have a tendancy to set workers up for failure rather then find ways to make them a better employee

Would recommend anybody that has the opportunity to work for Safway to take advantage of it.the opportunity to further your education and to advance within the company are within reach and the company is very accommodating in helping you reach your long term goals.

I been here 5 years hard work lots of trades here got to be on your toes concetrate on your own surroundings keep focus I'm hoping there's a place I can move up maybe inspect scaffold I be great at that keeping people safe be a great job so with hard work I can reach my goal I might need a push or help I would be great at this position thanks

Excellent place to get experience, learn from great teachers and mentors, and a great work/ life balance. Management was good and very knowledgeable with an abundance of experience that were willing to provide advice about scaffolding and their life experiences.

It was great to work with Safway, a lot of experience regarding constructions issued on a refinery.
Even though we had some problems on the road, we were able to solve them as a team work, and always respecting the health and safety of the workers.
