I've been working off and on for this company for 8 years, at pretty much every oilsand site in Alberta and work in town in Halifax. Their job culture is horrible and highly unprofessional, but they will lie to your face when you sign on to say it's all about safety. But in reality in the field, it's hurry finish the job. The people you work with are people off the street as a result of nepotism. Don't waste your time spending 10 grand on a scaffolding course with the union because the union says there is so much work they can't fill the vacancies. My verdict is scaffolding is a miserable slave job with ignorant co-workers.

As far as my scaffolding career went, this was the best place to work that I experienced. I really enjoyed the people that I worked with, I thought the workload was easy/reasonable. If you're a reasonably trustworthy/capable person (aka don't do drugs and can communicate at a level that shows you graduated high school), you can advance at this company as a tradesperson.  The pay was great, there was always overtime available if you wanted it, and every hour worked contributed to a union pension. The shift was 7 days on, 7 days off with 12 hour days while you were working.

Working for Safway Scaffolding at the Suncor Base plant was an excellent experience. They provided lunch rooms, great camp facilities, and good equipment to work with.
 
They were committed to a high production work environment without sacrificing safety. 

I always felt like I was treated with respect, that my concerns were listened to, and that my input was appreciated.

The crews I worked with were all professionals, and the management was approachable and competent. I would happily work for this company in a heartbeat.

I really enjoyed working for Safway Services.  Over the year I was there, they did a lot of growing and because of that so did I.  This was a very fast paced work enviroment, were 12 hrs a day was not enough.  I enjoyed that.  I worked with a great team.

when I started back in 2007 it was so much fun everyone did over time and we actually wanted to go to work now there's no incentive nothing your treated just like a number and now wages are being lowered no over time and your working maybe 4 days 

Decent company to work for but long hours and long shifts and Suncor is a very dirty place to work. The wages are good though and the benefits and retirement package is great as well.

I had a excellent experience with this company. They provide a quality product in a safe manner. the safety aspect is more than just culture it becomes a way of life.
