Saipem Construction Canada

I worked for saipem in the Edmonton area for over a year and a half. 

The only Positive thing I could say about the place is I made some good Canadian acquaintances while employed there and that's it!

saipem is like working in a primitive time and in a 3rd world country. Sure they built a new facility which they made sure to brag about like a child, but they couldn't operate a sneeze if they had to. (sneeze being involuntary, explaining for any saipem management that may read)

Bullying and intimidation, along with discrimination and ignorance are everywhere in supervision there. IN the beginning there were a few Canadians in supervisory positions which made it tolerable, once they left it was a downhill slide. 

The company has NO respect for Canadians our laws, legislation. They put no effort into improvement and not an idea as to how to learn. They refuse to change. 

While there I observe countless violations of everything from workplace safety to human rights. Numerous accounts of TFW's or recent immigrants working in positions that there were not qualified to do as long as they listened to management and stayed bent over.

Worked on various tasks in the Engineering Document Control department. Quality checking vendor, civil, electrical and piping isometric drawings; compiling CWP documentation; receiving and archiving of incoming client transmittals; distribution of Engineering documentation to Fabrication Yard Staff for module installation; scanning of documentation for Master Copy Archives (i.e Red Mark-up documents); receiving and transmitting letters from Executive Management Staff to Clients; and the maintaining of Hard and Soft Copy Archives.

Good management staff and co-workers. The most enjoyable part of the job was organizing and maintaining archive folders on the computer server and working together as a team towards the same project goals.

The teamwork environment is exceptional. Everyone works together to get out the importance of a safe workplace.
Everyday is different, some days we are dealing with an investigation therefore we must put together the timeline for the series of events that took place before the incident. Inputting all Safety tickets into the training log and maintaining the Training matrix for all workers on site. Corresponding daily with the WCB coordinator, booking and scheduling Modified Work Offers and Physiotherapy appoints for those workers that require it. Taking Meeting Minutes and logging all incidents into an excel spreadsheet. I enjoy the work, it is never boring.

ive learned alot from this company, including how to get the job done in a timely and safe manner and how to be part of a growing team, ive surpassed alot of people in this trade and learned how to be a leader as well as a good co-worker, ive gained alot of experience by asking questions and listening to what people have to say, 
i wouldnt really say any part of the job was hard except the weather in the winter months but that comes with it .. the most enjoyable part of the job would be learning new parts of the job and finding out where i wanna be in the future..

Edmonton mod yard  is a joke. No organization. Management is all Italian.  No Canadians  at all in the office. We are all treated like idiots no material . safety training courses as simple as fall arrest are hardly offered. You have to fight tooth and nail for anything to get done here. They have no idea how to run a business  in canada. Its the most unsafe place i have ever worked  in my life.   No lifelines on high  locations. We are told to work on grated  walkways that  are not welded down. Amd then told to tie our harnesses off at our feet to these grates.  Its a complete  joke. Dont work here

to acomplish the taskes and be noticed by other workers and formens that i did very well at what was asked of me . i learnednew taskes at all times and did very well at the best of my abilities  there wasent many things that were hard as i am a very hard worker an a very fast learner an the most enjoyable part of the job was helping other co workers and teaching them some of the abilities i new an them being very helpful with others and i .

This is the most corrupt oil company in Canada. Everything in the news is true, and worst of all, the most corrupt department is HR. 
Unless you want to feel like a worthless piece of **** go elsewhere. 
Instead of reevaluating where they are spending their money (+$10,000,000 for rent in the Calgary offices, while all the work comes out of Edmonton), they do mass layoffs. 
Also, great job being kicked out of the oil sands on two occasions, by two of the biggest oil companies guys!
Don't waste your time.

By far the worst company I have EVER worked for ... Lies on top of lies... Management hasn't a clue , someone is going to die in an accident there, management outright refuse to acknowledge safety concerns... Saipem regularly abuses TFW program putting numerous qualified Canadians out of work..... management loves to raise their voices and try to intimidate ... What joke of a company lol ... They will throw you under the bus every chance they get

Management treats it's employees like they would in a third world country. Half the management can't speak English. Never no if you have a job from one week to the next. Currently working 40 reg hours a week. Just starting new project and no organization.  They really like there Tfw. Fired all Canadian management to bring Italians. Don't work here.

Management was so poor that the Corporate side of the company had to step in and "implement" changes that made working for the company slightly more enjoyable but much more ridged. Thus making the company sustainable but not satisfying. 

Although the company was breaking into the Canadian market there was lots of room for career progression, if you were with the "in" crowd.
