Working at Samuel, Son & Co. was a solid overall experience and a good representation of a large, established steel company. The work environment was structured, safety-focused, and expectations were clearly communicated. As a material handler, the job was physical and fast-paced, but the processes were generally well organized.

Training was adequate, especially around material handling, crane/forklift coordination, and general plant safety. Safety standards were taken seriously compared to many similar industrial environments, and procedures were usually followed on the floor. Supervisors were knowledgeable and approachable, and communication between shifts was fairly consistent.

The company offers stability, steady hours, and the opportunity to build experience in a professional steel-processing environment. Like most production roles, the work can be repetitive and demanding, but if you’re dependable and willing to work hard, it’s a place where you can do well and grow.

Honestly the trouble is mentioning the issues with a company turns out to look bad on yourself,and I’m sure this company is not alone when it comes to the issues this particular company has,it’s everywhere I’m sure and regardless how many times it spoke of things will never be fixed,Discrimination and favouritism in the work place gets overlooked and usually results in termination for the people who speak up.In my case working under these conditions for six years while never having a accident and good reviews and excellent work ethic and attendance still resulted in layoff and severance but many workers with really bad track record continue to hold a job.Many advancement in the company would nearly always go to Supervisors friends and not necessarily people deserving.In my opinion things like this never get seen by upper management as it’s hidden from them and reports always biased.Great pay and Company does treat employees good but depends whether or not your likes by supervisors or not whether or not you ever get better opportunities 

Processing work orders to have coils shipped to companies accordingly, process PO's, entry of freight charges, chemistries of coils, and invoice when all is complete.
Learned to make sure that coils for each company are shipped together and in a timely manner. Management was very helpful with learning to help in any way needed. Co-workers were always helpful and advised when to hold back a work order until all coils for that shipment were all together to be shipped in one shipment. Hardest part of the job was making sure that coils were actually shipped and not sitting in the warehouse waiting for another shipment to be completed. Most enjoyable part of the job was learning a new type of industry to enhance my skills.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There is nothing unfortunately, it seems as though if you don't have upper management as friends it's impossible to mesh.  The opportunity awaits to those who love to brown nose.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful would be pay week/day. The office goes absolutely insane and the pressure is high to complete without imperfections. It's not a great work environment for those with a heart.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very high pressure.. and controversial at times.

A typical day involved a lot of stress to resolve problems caused by lack of planning and communication between production and maintenance supervisors.
The hardest part of my job was listening to everyone trying to blame the workers for their mistakes, instead of admitting fault and trying to resolve it.
The most enjoyable part of my job was dealing with my subordinates, who I got along with very well and they would do any job I asked them to. We had a mutual respect for each other

They are paying well but bad management and poor training process. If you work remotely or from the Laval office, then you are screwed. You need to be self trained and ready to go. Best way to succeed is to be at the Ontario office. Some colleagues are very rude and some are very nice. No work culture, no actually assist you when you need help concerning the company. You just have to discover and find everything on your own. Good luck for the service desk role    

I planned and structured my day. Being aggressive about my sales numbers was self motivating and it brought in good results. I sold more steel than several other sales associated put together. I learned a lot about steel, sales as well as that hard work does not pay off. I was laid off at the peak of my career for no real reason, this was hard to understand. No one else at Samuel understood either.
I enjoyed selling and got on well with my co-workers, six years later and we still keep in touch. All in all it was a good experience.

I truly enjoy my whole day at my job. There realy isn't anything I can't figure out or trouble shoot. Everything I come in contact with gets completed or at least 75% completed before I leave for the day. My co-workers are all a great bunch to work with and be around. I have learned to be more patient and considerate of others while being in this position, I also have made others around me more tolerant of other employees just by being the positive factor instead of the negative factor.

I have worked at Samuel, Son & Co. for over a year now and I believe it is a great place to work. My opinions are valued and I am encouraged to share my perspective - which is easy to do as the culture and environment are extremely welcoming. If I had to sum up Samuel, Son & Co. I would say people-oriented. 

In short, I would recommend Samuel, Son & Co.

8 Month very productive working experience. Worked fairly independently receiving minimum level of detail supervision and guidance. Good team player and maintain close and highly responsive relationship with end user and co worker. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skill as well as ability to manage multiple task as assigned with full responsibility. Hard working and faster leaner new technologies as required.
