Managing high-pressure situations can be challenging.

The most enjoyable part of the job:
The most enjoyable part is contributing to an essential service. The camaraderie among colleagues and the opportunity to work on impactful projects that improve energy delivery is incredibly fulfilling.

The job used to be classified as a career but now is referred to as a job. The morale amongst the workers is very low. The workers don’t have as much pride in their work anymore as the employer has stripped away any independent thinking that they used to have. The workers now have to show their accountability for every minute of the day and they are monitored individually through charts and graphs on a regimental basis. The workers don’t seem to be appreciated for the work that is completed safely and quickly but they are quick to face discipline if something goes wrong. The in-scope supervisors have taken on more and more of the out of scope managers’ responsibilities and because of this, these supervisors are burned/stressed out. The company philosophy of do more with less has taken on a whole new meaning. Some of the field managers that are hired have no field related experience and seems as if they are hired as to who they know or what they are willing to do as opposed to what they know and how knowledgeable they are to the field group they are responsible for. 

If you are a new guy who is doing well performance wise, your co-workers along with management try to push you down and they can go as far as setting you up for a faliure. They point fingers at you when you are trying to learn saying that you are not here to learn but work. Too much favoritism to certian group of people and everyone is someone's relative of the management or whomsoever has the influence on the management. You coworkers and management  dont show you anything and when you try to figure it out, they blame you for being slow and not doing other work as shovelling coal or washing floors which is burdened on a single new guy. They blame you for being long enough and not knowing things whereas that particular thing was to be shown as per workplace protocol. When you ask tough questions and be determined at your stance, they somehow try to prove you wrong. Licking boots of the management is the only way to thrieve careerwise in that environment. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have never previously worked at a position where I was able to take advantage of such knowledge and brilliants for the people that I worked with and for.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My answer for this question is always accuracy and time management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dealing with very dangerous chemicals and high voltage equipment the environment is high up when it comes to safety issues and I am  an experienced safety coordinator and spent 5 years on the occupational health committee for SaskPower which I took great pride in and still do.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My typical days existed of dealing with most all things Administrative, as well as  working with safety committees, Chemists, and generally speaking with any public inquires and helping out in any way I can that will help my coworkers and to exceed expectations of my job description.

An interesting and challenging place to work, there is always opportunities  to grow. I improved my job skills and honed my  personal development skills
 I would spend many hours working on contracts and budgets for plant overhauls and turnarounds, 
The most enjoyable part of my job was the team building, I put lots of effort in building and nurturing  overhauls teams,  I received a lot  of satisfaction mentoring and watching the team grow and become strong  
As the company is a crown corporation, with the major shareholder being the government, I find myself putting in long hours and many miles on the road to attend meetings,time management is a major hurdle for this company.
That being said,I have gained very valuable experience and confidence in planning and executing overhauls for thermal generating stations

Employed into a role/position may have built-in/vailed resentment from other work team members and managers.  One must consider the associated risks and ensure mitigation is on-going daily. 


The hardest part of the job would be (in)/directly reporting to some one motivated to harm you some how for some nonsensical season.  You may not be aware of anything wrong until you are well into a significant career challenge.


If you are good at your work; It's a 25-75 Las Vegas gamble weather or not you'll be successful.  It's actually better to be incompetent; the success odds are 90-10! Keep in mind there will be no checks and balances...outcome is beyond your control.  {The writers for "Survivor Island" gets ideas/material from this place}

I personally am very much of a people-person and love to network and building long lasting relationships with customers strategically. SaskPower did not provide that opportunity for me during my stay within the company. This crown company provides great benefits to you and your family with a good paying wage. However, this company itself is mainly lacking of a workplace culture and value in its own employee. The hardest part of this job is you are always expected to get your job done without any appreciation and recognition of your work. I want to be treated as an asset more than a number in a company where I am not just someone that can easily replaced, and demonstrate a work place into a professional yet with a warm personal touch as a topping to the organization.

Obtain relief from previous on site operators as to equipment operations and any work being done which affects us.  Change for the shift, head up to the control room, check the log books, and attend safety meeting prior to shift start.

Management is very visible during the day shift, and helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. 

Toughest part of the job was dealing with weather conditions and how it affects the fuel provided to the boilers. Otherwise its a fairly smooth operation, with only the occasional problems encountered on any work site.

I learnt a lot in my role as the Administrative  Assistance. I helped Recruitment to call on references for jobs, Helped Recruitment with paying procurement cards and external expenses. I also helped the Return to work area with time sheets; filling in vacation, stat holidays, and return to work schedules. I also helped in the Diversity area with charts and references. 
SaskPower gave me a great learning experience in which I learnt a lot about Human Resources. 
With optimization, there was no jobs after the maternity leave.
