SODS, particularly the Employment Services Unit, has a bad reputation as am employer for good reason. The employees jokingly refer to SODS as "the Revolving Door Society." The pay is low, and opportunities for advancement are almost zero. 

What's worse is the overall work culture. Management fosters and rewards employees who keep their heads down and don't question their dubious and capricious leadership decisions. Inefficiency, poor communication, lack of clarity in communicating job expectations to new employees, poor strategic planning, and an extremely high turnover rate are hallmarks of the ESU. Employees are often newcomers to Canada who may feel intimidated or uncertain about standing up to their employer because they fear for their jobs (with good reason). Employees who advocate for change and transparency are quickly rooted out so that a prevailing culture of conformity and loyalty to management can reign. In addition, the directors of this government and taxpayer-funded non-profit make well over $100k/year, while basic employees make barely $23/hr. Yet so many resources are wasted and the newcomer clients we serve often get rightfully frustrated at our bureaucracy and inefficiency. There are countless red flags at this organization and I absolutely do not recommend anyone work here unless they are "yes men" who will turn a blind eye, play nice for management, and uphold the prevailing status quo. 

The leadership team is predominantly from a certain region and they tend to favor those who share their background. This does not reflect the diversity and inclusion that are valued in Canada. The leaders/directors are not qualified for their roles and I would not trust them with any administrative tasks in my organization. If you agree with everything they say, you will be on their good side. If you don’t, they will make your life miserable. So, my friend, if you are reading this, I advise you to stay away from this place. You should not walk, but run away. The union is compromised, so you cannot count on them.

It's a small dictatorship, management don't believe in employees' right, they use power more than anything else. the salaries are not very attractive even if this place receives big money from the government more than any other nonprofit organization in the province. in contrast with employees salaries, management salaries are the highest in the province!!
IRCC and taxpayers must watch this place very closely, higher positions there are given not on the basis of qualification but on the basis of loyalty and religious affiliation.

People at Saskatoon Open Door society are very accommodating and friendly. They are also very approachable especially for people like us that are newly immigrant in the said place. They also give good opportunity and services to the people like us to expand our experiences in the field of translating orally in Court and in Health Department.

I enjoyed welcoming everybody that walked through the door and especially enjoyed waving at the students when they were coming to class or leaving for the day.

You'll get to experience becoming a leader and do presentations to newcomers about our school system. There's a lot of fun activities that includes everyone and you will really get to know each and everyone of them fairly well.

Advancement options are very poor. Management is too lenient in allowing religious indiscretions at the workplace. Good thing as that they are very understanding and accommodation of people's personal, and school obligations.

I would go to my desk and see what my agenda is for the day walk over to ymca and watch the youth do hip hop and then come back and do some more paper work it was very interesting especially the programs

Is a very interesting place to work with because you meet people from all over and   to help people in the work this one of the goals of the place which makes me enjoy my job when you can meet with the need of Customer

It is the biggest NGO in the province, the pay is not good compared to the workload.  It is a diverse organization though. I will not recommend this organization for work. Most of the clients are not happy.
