Sault College

As a new student attending Sault College in 2011 I decided to create a cheerleading team of college students.  After 3 years this vision grew into a Cheerleading academy with athletes from ages 4 to 60+.  After my graduation from the College I stepped into my dream roll as a manager and coordinator of the cheer program.  

With administration during the day and coaching in the evenings I managed the day to day operations of the academy.  As a student stepping into a management roll of a program still in its infancy, I learned a lot about myself and what it takes to be a good leader.  

Of course with competitive spot come competitive team placements and a potential to disappoint athletes.The hardest part of my job has been communicating effectively with the parents of my athletes. Through this learning curve I believe I developed a good grasp on how to empower athletes through goal setting and positive reinforcement. 

My co workers have been the highlight of my work.  They have become my family and superset system.

My skills mesh nicely with Sault College's need and I am able to instruct adult students preparing for work.  I teach Introduction to Microsoft Office every fall term.  I have had the opportunity to teach Organizational Behaviour for one winter term.  With rising enrollment I expect to be offered more opportunity to teach during the winter term.
Sault College is a very supportive environment, with high quality of life.  The college strives to give the students every opportunity to grow and reach their potential.  This attitude benefits the teachers by promoting a positive focus in planning to meet any challenges that may occur.  It is wonderful to work in an environment where optimism about the potential of young adults is encouraged.  It allows progressive teachers to express confidence and communicate it to the students and encourage them to take advantage of their opportunities.

The students at Sault College are required to put out the effort. It isn't like a flying club - if a student doesn't put in the expected effort, the student shouldn't be in the program. In that sense, most of the students actually want to be there and work hard, making it a very good atmosphere in the cockpit.
Unfortunately, in recent years, the College administration has allowed too many students into the program for the number of aircraft available. This has led to a backlog of flights and students have fallen behind on their training. This led to the undesirable outcome of low morale among students, and later, low morale among instructors as the recovery process now seems insurmountable.
Other than that, the hours are great, the experience is great, and the Zlin is like a little rally car - not very good on gas, but an absolute pleasure to fly.

Sault college was an amazing place to become educated in electrical engineering technology. Every teacher knew what they where talking about and knew what had to be taught in order for us to be successful in industry. Most teachers where engineers themselves or technicians/technologists at the very least. Every one of them had years of experience in industry ranging from power distribution to instrumentation to microcontroller/c++ programming.
On top of the incredible faculty we where taught with both theory and hands on experience. We as students constructed circuits with real components (capacitors, resistors, bjts, etc). Learned on real PLC`s (PLC5000, PLC5, SLC500) and programmed actual microcontrollers (Motorola HC11 & Arduino).

I enjoy the students watching them being a part of their academic growth. Working in a collaborative team is vital for my growth and to support the students in the best way possible. The days may be long involving dissection, lecture marking at nights and weekends. Managing my time and supporting students to develop structure in study habits balancing their life perhaps for the first time including studies critical to their success. Guidance is always offered or direct ion when asked for or needed. Designing and using alternative teaching and learning methods very enjoyable and challenging for personal growth in a profession I so thrive in.

Sault college contracted me to promote their 'Peace and Conflict Studies' diploma in Toronto, which is being launched in collaboration with college Boreal. Thus the same course will be offered both in English and French. 
I enjoyed my role and independence with it, where I could chalk out my own plan of action. The team was always supportive and open to the ideas that were suggested, which was very motivating in turn.

I had never experienced  stressful during my two month internship.

Civilized and organized work environment .

Mostly about students file work.

IT Service Desk Assistant. Attend to people who walk in with IT queries

A typical day at school is filled with lectures, quizzes, outdoor labs and a lot of hands-on learning. The professors expect us to wear the proper clothing for each lab we do whether it be our personal protective equipment or lab jackets. the hardest part would be staying awake during a 2-3 hour lecture and the fun part would be all the hands-on activities we do.

Meeting and greeting people, faxing, filling scheduling apointments and assisting co-workers when needed. very supportive co-workers, friendly helpfull and fun.
