It can be near impossible in some roles. It can be so fun in others. Great benefits, great bonds with the kids, often a fun place to work. You start on casual on call anywhere from lantzville to ladysmith. You must take every call and may not know where your going until that morning. Benefits start when you make 3 months no sick day and no lack of a call. You get sick all the time constantly when on call. Mostly because you are replacing someone out sick and your exposed to new germs at every site. When you get to your call out sometimes they tell you nothing about your student and you have to figure it out. Admin have no power and good luck if your student has figured it out. Luckily you probably won’t have the most challenging behaviours when you start out. Self care is important.  Good luck! 

Co-workers are exceptional and the children are wonderful, but classes are crowded and filled with special needs students. The hardest part of the job is that there is so much to be done that you will never have a life beyond work. After 24 years on the job, it takes more time to do the job than it did in my first year teaching. Under Bill 22, there is no job security of any kind so there is no incentive to educate oneself further. You will only educate yourself out of the market. Management supports the government and the government is exceedingly antagonistic towards teachers so I imagine this is the situation in all B.C. school districts. I have decided to retire this year and will never teach again in this province.
I'm looking for a job where I'm appreciated.

Arrived at work and received a call of an accident. Drove out to perform investigation and arrange for medical care or an accommodation as necessary.  Arrived back at office in time for raining team in WHMIS.  Had lunch and reviewed claims paperwork that arrived from WSBC.  Prepared submissions to WSBC and submitted to clerical for proofing.  Mailed submissions on way home from office.  

As a senior manager I have good relationships with management and supervisors who are my co-workers.  The most enjoyable part of teh day is exercising empathy for the injured and getting them back to work.  The hardest aprt of the job is alerting families to injuries of family members.

As head secretary, I have a number of duties per day at such a fast-passed environment.
I love the staff and enjoy working with others.  I have four secretaries under me and totally enjoy working as a team.

The toughest part of my job is keeping on top of the 30 charge cards transactions and their reports.  It's not difficult, just time consuming and takes up a large part of my time, among all the other duties of the day.
I enjoy the challenge and find it rewarding.
Truly, the most enjoyable part of my position, is working with others.  I love meeting new people and making new friendships.

Teaching is demanding at the best of times, but when teachers, admin and management aren't aligned and united in their approach  it becomes very difficult to enjoy the job. Kids are kids, and most are wonderful, but the job has changed dramatically in the 20 years I've been in it.  Admin used to "have your back" when it came to classroom challenges but now they are so berated by parents and afraid of management they often blameshift onto overworked teachers.  I feel sad for new teachers who know no different.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The ability to have split shift everyday.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Trying to get on full time and get a route assigned to you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great work environment. Everyone is friendly. Other employees very helpful with new hires.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
2 hrs in morn. 2 hrs in afternoon,  sometimes extra work as well.

Certain union members who do side jobs for boss in maintenance. able to keep job after being caught steeling and doing dangerous work. While others who work hard are subjected to constant job harassment and investigations and pressured to quit. This is an old boys club in a very dirty way. Management is very top heavy and anti union. This is a very much who you know not what you do job.

Horrible management in HR.  Zero work/life balance.  Treated horrible because I was a single parent.  Was told to find other options for my child after work hours so that I could commit longer hours to my job which wasn't very busy....just hang around just in case an emergency comes up after hours.

Toxic workplace. From the top down too the bottom. If the organization actually did their job and they investigated its problems with upper management maybe this problem would be addressed. AKA . Don’t renew their contracts 

lovely coworkers, receive lots of support, great benefits, pension, good hours, senior management continuously looking for ways to improve employee wellness
