I worked in the Engineering department. Interesting work... buuut..... it was, hands down, the biggest most unbelievable mess I'd ever seen in my career. 

We worked on the Joint Support Ship (JSS). I started joking that we should perhaps change that to Joint Support Submarine since we couldn't be confident that sucker was gonna float. As the months wore on, that became less of a joke.

After the designs had gone through SEVEN different consulting engineering firms (of moderate to low quality and professionalism), the final schematics were an eye-watering disaster. What was worse were the engineering systems - there was no locking-down of designs, since we found out that other departments were changing the designs of parts as we were releasing the drawings - and nobody would tell us. We had NO ability to be confident that the drawings we were putting out were in any way valid. Absolutely shocking.
I can only pity the poor guys working out in the shipyard, trying to make sense of the nonsense we were releasing. 

Other than that, it's a nice place, and I've never likes a group of co-workers more than the fine lads I worked with at Seaspan. It's too bad the ship was a disaster.

On board ships day work is always hard for engineers. You have your team with highly qualified chief engineers and second engineers who are really supportive for your day work and you have your supporters for get your work done with there support. But we are the people who make decisions on machinery, and do all the work by using our hands. what we have is on hand experience of all types of marine machinery. do the work in high temperature environment and high noise environment with multinational crew is really challengeable.
I learned how to work as team and all me basic engineering knowledge from ships. There I got my career foundation.
Management Is good but always every where you got some tiny misunderstands. all can manage well.
My co workers are really helpful and well supportive.
Physically you have to do the job in high temperature, noisy environment.
the most enjoyable ....... :) where ever you do some trouble shoot, repair any damage machinery under all hard environment and enjoy when you put those machinery in to operation and get the output from them.

The workplace environment suffers significantly due to poor management practices, which are characterized by a constant tendency toward micromanagement. Team members may become disengaged, leading to higher turnover rates and a loss of valuable expertise. Effective leadership requires a balance between guidance and independence, yet this organization consistently leans toward intrusive oversight. Addressing these issues would involve cultivating better communication, delegating responsibilities appropriately, and demonstrating confidence in the team’s capabilities to ensure sustainable growth and improved employee satisfaction.

Letting experienced people go without cause is the Seaspan culture. Folks are sent home daily. HR will not fight for you; they support the managers. If you work here, know that your days are numbered. Managers do not promote from within they bring in folks that are book smart only. Revolving door, fear mongered environment. No training provided. Mangers don't know how to do their jobs or how to support reports and grow their skills.  They have great projects however; this organization says they are Canadian Ship Building but majority of the employees are from other countries. Upper Managment all from USA and the mentality is having "YES" men/women around. Would not be surprised to see contracts pulled from Seaspan.

I spent 41 years at Seaspan and for the most part enjoyed the folks I worked with, it wasn’t always easy, due to weather conditions as in gales, storms and heavy seas, most of the work was done off shore running as far south as Cedros Island Mexico, SAN Diego, Long Beach California, San Francisco, Columbia River, all around Vancouver Island, North Coast of BC and Alaska, Haida Gwai,
Arctic, Beaufort Sea. All in all I had an incredible time working as a deckhand, Mate, and relief Skipper. Not many people get to do what I and my cohorts have and for some still do, working on the Tugboats of western Canada!

Employees are mandated to go to the office with only a select few given the opportunity to work from home: it creates resentment within the company/employees. Employees are overwhelmed with responsibilities. Most people work in their own silos: it is a constant fight to accomplish tasks with the support of other departments.

I have worked at this corporation for going on 5 years now at the beginning it was good, near the end I realized they will work you till you can't work no more than They'll get rid of you ,pretty sad knowing that you're just a number , I would advise you To look for another career or at least make this one short , cause your body can't take. It's not about dangerous task for your body and the long run. Think smart no one cares about you but yourself and your family

Working at Seaspan has been fulfilling. I've learned to thrive in a dynamic environment, where my contributions are valued. Management fosters growth and supports employees. The workplace culture promotes collaboration and respect. Challenges are met with teamwork, making overcoming them rewarding. Overall, Seaspan provides a supportive and enjoyable work environment conducive to professional development and success.

Lunch time, break time, going home. Thos place completely sucks

White hats, bad management, poor general work atmosphere 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Cancerous at best. This place really sucks

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Boring, unproductive, taking multiple 30min bathroom breaks

It’s good and bad sometimes you Pushed to your limits to the point of walking out on high priority jobs your work is never good enough And after the job your disposed of even if the company relies on you for big jobs, there is not reasoning with taking time off also some managers are Bully’s and get away with it and are some how protected. At the need of the day you are just a employee number on there computer nothing else.
