Seaview Manor

I worked at Seaview for one week before taking back my position at a previous company. I would say that in that one week, I realized the position was simply not a fit for me. People were friendly on the surface and I would have said I had no issues with anyone as, again, I had only been there 5 days. Hardly long enough to have opinions on people let alone issues with them! 

To the point that I gave notice, I had nothing negative to say beyond that the position simply wasn't a fit for me between the role being different than I expected, the long probationary period, rules around vacation, the commute, and my previous employer salary matching to retain me. 

When I went to give my notice, however, I was instantly put off. The demeanor changed, management were saying rude and untrue things about me while I was in the next office writing my resignation, and when I was escorted out of the office before the door even closed, a portion of management were laughing at my expense. 

Honestly was and still am appalled at the behaviour and what was said about me as, 5 days in, they did not even know me well enough to make those judgements about me. Also, it's fairly common that companies will offer better rates of employment to retain their good employees so I was shocked at the reaction. You would think that is not an uncommon occurrence. 

Especially given what was said about me by both managers, you would assume that they would have been pleased I was giving notice and now have the chance to hire someone better suited for the role.

I was employed at seaview manor as a registered nurse for approx a yr and a half. I quit in early 2022. If you are considering working here I’d strongly advise against it as it was by far the worst place I had ever worked. I understand this was not the case prior to the current administration taking over.  Administration does not care about the well being of the employees and it made for an extremely toxic work environment. They do not care about their employees nor do they offer assistance when extremely under staffed. Also, although the majority of staff have great union reps this does not hold true for the RN’s as the union rep is more concerned with pleasing administration than looking out for the best interest of the RN’s. I will say, however, that u will never find more caring CCA’s anywhere else. They often work short staffed, but, somehow still manage to give great care to the residents. They are the ones that keep that nursing home running yet they are given ABSOLUTELY NO respect by administration!!!!!! Please do yourself a favour and stay away until new administration takes over which I understand can be as soon as next year. Good luck if you do ta

Great place to work where work-life balance exists. 
Supportive team environment and a sense of pride is felt knowing you contribute to the overall goal of resident-centered care. Seaview Manor Administration team members should really be applauded for their hard work  in all areas (support services and clinical). There are a number of standards/legislative requirements  that must be adhered to in long-term care and our team ensures that these are met. Without this, SVM would not be able to operate as a long- term care facility with it’s 113 residents and approx 185 staff. 

Been working casual here for over a year. You can't beat the friendly Glace Bay and surrounding staff. Management is also innovating to make the workplace more efficient and keep staff happy while always keeping safety in mind. Communication is on point and is a happy work environment.  Spacious building with 4 different units and extreamly clean. The residents are amazing and this place is really home. Highly recomend anyone to join the team no matter what your department. 

Lot of clicks with the workers. Management is horrible.  Staff are mean to new hires and bullying is an everyday thing. Management won’t help you at all when bullied. Everyone complains non stop about management. You will work everyday short staffed and you are expected to pick up the slack with no reward. You are overworked and underpaid. You are not appreciated and management does not care about you. You are a spot to fill on a schedule. 

I already wrote a review of seaview manor as a student. A typical day involed making the beds and helping during lunch and supper to set up coffee put down residents trays and helping to feed them and taking them back to there rooms. I would have to clean up there room in the morning and make every bed and help to restock the linen cart. I would clean off the bedside tables dressers beds. ect. and I would go to the hospital to deliver blood work. and help with any other odd jobs that were requested by nursing staff.

I work there as a nursing student, therefore I basically do the same tasks as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA).  We get the patients in the nursing home washed and ready for the day, serve their meals, assist some with feeding, toilet throughout the day, maintain safety and health.

I love my position at Seaview Manor. I get to experience all sides of the company and can say I've never had a bad interaction with anyone. There are some amazing people working there. My suggestion is see for yourself. I'm glad I did! 

beautiful staff and management with amazing residents, hours are there for all staff who are looking for work. Management is always ready to help and the union is strong and united.

Beautiful facility, mostly friendly staff, fast-paced environment. Only downside was the pay, the dollar per hour amount was significantly less compared to other nursing homes in the area.
