Use this company as a stepping stone for better things but don't expect any mentorship, proper training or support of any kind. Management/organization/communication is a mess, pay and benefits are laughable, no RRSP plans. Higher ups only care about the numbers and often ignore the human factor. Lower management are generally unable to delegate tasks to untrained team members meaning they are too busy to properly train their employees, and end up taking a sink or swim approach with field projects. As a result, at least half the workplace (prior to recent layoffs) was inept resulting in an over-reliance on, and over-working of, the few employees who had proven to be capable. Worked additional hours nearly every day to complete last minute requests from management, address mistakes made by coworkers in reports, meet deadlines which had already been extended/missed by whoever was previously responsible, coordinate field projects etc. Lots of overtime which is now stored as time in lieu rathe than paid out. Gossipy office with lots of negativity and high school-ish vibe. Very high turn-over rate.

An example: Yearly bonuses (if they even still have bonuses) are evaluated based on a system which has been designed to minimize the bonus awarded. One part of the evaluation is each employee working a minimum of 80% billable hours over the year. Billable hours are calculated as a weekly percentage rather than based on actual hours worked. This means that working long hours in the field (such as 90+ hours weeks) only translates to 100% billable time over those weeks, and does not ensure getting a good bonus. So you could work an extra 500 hours in the year, but if you took all your entitled vacation time, time-in-lieu or sick time, you would not achieve the 80% requirement. Regardless of how good an employee you are, you would not be given a full bonus. 

This company actually has a lot of potential but the poor management and overall disorganization makes it hard to realize. It's unfortunate, I worked here for about 2.5 years and I met some of my best friends at Secure. I would have liked to stay longer but at the end of the day I was burnt out and depressed by the work atmosphere. Ultimately decided to find something with a better work/life balance and I'm much happier now.

Looked very decent and promising at first, but turned out to be a complete dead end of a job, unless you are ALREADY friends with the management.

Definitely look elsewhere if you want a stable career in IT, because no matter how hard and efficient you work, and how widely you are known across the company for this work, your job will not be secure, and you will not be recognized/promoted (even when a position is available, you are clearly the best one for it, and have already jumped through all the hoops), unless you are besty/family/whatever bull of the little capricious senior staff clique. They stack teams with inept staff so no one will 'threaten' their positions (my manager was once dumb enough to basically confess that to me openly), and lay off great people who never even closely deserved it, left and right. Don't buy any of their 'supportive' and 'caring' claims, and go asking management for honest feedback—they'll just lie to your face every time, it's all fake. 
The pay and benefits are mediocre at best; never a bonus (those are for management only); heavy workload (even if you are not trying to stand out); inept staff (some of them just toxically inept, and that impacts personal relationships) are purposefully tolerated, while better workers get snubbed; established cliques and family connections are the heart and soul of this company. If you are not already part of them prior to even joining the company, or they decide to hate you for whatever non-existent personal reason, then you are bound to get kicked out and will have no way of defending yourself.

All in all, if you are willing to bust your bum every day and not have any aspirations, then go for it—they'll love you.

A solid place to work if you rely heavily on culture and staying busy. There was a big lack of collaboration and communication between teams, resulting in running around in circles and having to re-do basic tasks due to constant changes that were not previously disclosed. Many teams lacked accountability and often things were pushed around to different teams until landing on one. 

Secure has potential to be a great company within the energy business, with many programs and benefits supporting entry-level careers and growing careers. 

Most divisions were seeing a constant flow of extreme volume and working at capacity sometimes requiring working on weekends. This led to individuals being too busy to take vacations and then losing those days at the end of the year. Management needs to reorganize and set up their current staff properly with the possibility of adding new team members. 

The workload was stressful but kept everyone busy, which did make the days go by quickly. People made an effort to build relationships with you and ensure you were managing fine, but managers often overlooked your capacity. 

Corporate interview process was extremely long, with the posting having been up for months already and then once the interviews started, candidates were being hired on after about a month. 

First meeting with supervisor at Fox Creek Secure environmental land fill. We were building new cells for site operation. Was asked how long I had been with company. Told him only a few days. He flipped and went off on me about getting all the new people. Constantly gave me disrespectful grief over the two way radio from the start until I approached him about it. Did the same to others. Expected to work as labourer/heavy equipment operator. Wasn't told this when hired but was ok with it. Excavator broke down and was making efforts to repair machine and was injured while doing so. Supervisor was angry when I went to hospital to be checked out. Called me a liar and said I was faking injury. X-rays and doctor proved different. Signed agreement to stay working doing modified duties instead of being off on WCB. Went to site for first day of modified duties and was told I was in the way and my job was to sit in my personal p/u truck until I was healed and able to perform full duties again. This went on for one day and then was sent home for days off even though I wasn't close to the end of my turn around.  I was told this was in my best interest to help me heal but I was to receive no pay even though I had agreed to modified duties. Completely illegal. I ended up getting WCB payment for this forced time off. Once this happened that was about the end of my job. I don't recommend this company.

Working at Secure has definitely been a pleasure.  Our facility definitely has really good moral and I am actually excited to go into work.  

As an Operator, our job is not strenuous by any means, however when something goes wrong, it can definitely be stressful.  Safety is and always will be the number one priority at Secure.  You are never asked to rush anything.  They have a, 'Take Your Time, Do it Safe, and Do it Right' mentality.  The management with Secure is very good and they treat their employees very well.

I really do like working for Secure, however their pay just isn't competitive enough.  They don't offer much, if anything, for housing accommodations so most of the employees are local.  If you are from out of town you are required to find your own living arrangements.  They are trying to hire local and if you aren't local, they expect you to eventually reside in the area because they will not pay for your hotel or rental expenses.  The problem with that is, their facilities are located in booming locations where housing is extremely expensive and they definitely do not pay well enough to afford to relocate.

In comparison to where I am working, there are other companies/facilities starting their employees at around $30,000-$40,000 MORE than our starting salary.

Over the six plus years I was at Secure I found that it was an enjoyable place and environment to work in. They went through an amazing growth and hired the best that they could. Unfortunately; with fast growth gaps are developed and sometimes its difficult to foresee and react to these gaps in an appropriate manner.
I was able to receive training during my time which aided in moving on to new opportunities. Granted I was let go which wasn't my choice. 
With the current market trends and the way the industry is struggling almost all companies are affected in one way or another.  
The team I was working with was fantastic and supportive. 
Sure being unemployed during a downturn is humbling and makes you rethink your choices. However; when something ends something else starts. 
I've worked in the forest industry, oil and gas, service industry and now a dam project. 
Opportunities are there and I refuse to dwell on the past.

A lot of nice people work here. The best advice I can give them is to get their experience and leave as soon as possible. If you have a great manager, you are lucky and will generally have a good experience here.  Unfortunately, they are so few and far between, its unlikely.  They claim 'work-life balance', 'great culture', 'grow your people', but again, its very manager dependent. Its a very 'young' company and you can see that by the lack of experience and mentoring most managers have. The turnover rate in certain groups speaks for itself. Good leaders who do stand out generally get exited or 'retired'.  After the merger, many Tervita employees either left quickly after seeing how this place is run, or were put into management positions with promises of a better pay. The company spends a great deal of time and energy developing Vision statements, but don't actually live by them. Sadly, the only reason there are any women in senior management/board positions is because it looks good on their ESG requirements. 

Secure south office was a great place to work and loved going to work every day. Biggest challenge was to be able to maintain 80% billable rate, which can be quite challenging with limited field work. If you are billable take unpaid time off or use your vacation. Vacation was almost frowned upon and never got vacation when you needed to take it. Salary was quite low, other divisions had higher salary with very little work put in. Spent too much money on marketing. Very limited growth and not many opportunities for advancement even within the company. NEPOTISM at its BEST. Most, if not all (8/10) summer positions were given to students with higher management (Directors, VPs, SVPs, CEO). Changed business model to Midstream. Good luck with that. Secure seems more like a waste management company - not an energy company. HR corporate is the WORST of all who never responded to anyone including fellow HR employees. Fun place to work but just a professional job at a minimum wage level. Do your own due diligence. Safety is among the best I have seen in the industry so far. 

The organization is made up of highly entrepreneurial individuals which creates a really exciting and continuous improvement environment. The organization has some old school tendencies, but wants to be a front runner in the industry so they are very adaptive to new ways of doing things. Overall, I found the organization to be too politically invested and I often felt pressure to vote or participate in conservative politics. This mindset left very little room for other ideas, and made me feel a bit ostracized. There was a lot of support for work life balance and an emphasis on development, wellness, and technological improvement. The sky was the limit to explore how to improve what we did. 
I rated advancement low as I found there to be minimal succession planning, and senior roles were often filled by someone’s friend or past colleague rather than someone within the agency who was proving themselves. 

When I started at Secure things were great! I got along well with my boss and co-workers and the work was reasonable. 

However, the system was always changing, no process could ever stay the same and things were constantly being over complicated. Consistency would have been really nice, especially since the hours were so long, 12 hour days and 1-3 hours of commute time depending on how far you were from the worksite.

There is also a large amount of favoritism on smaller worksites. Family and friends are often hired, causing conflicts of interest and making those who aren't family a target for management to take their problems out on. Family and friends are also treated better overall. In my time working here, I watched management chase off multiple operators and scale desk workers, but it was never anyone from the "inner circle". 

The only plus is that Secure does supply great benefits.
