Every morning 20 min before we open we always have a line up no matter rain or shine.We always had that one customer that constantly complained and once at the counter had absolutely no paper work, no id and it was always our fault. The location I worked was small for the high volume of customers, but it was the staff that made each other get through the day. Our management team was excellent, especially in problem solving, running the office, and over all dealing with very aggressive behavior. I've never seen a bunch of women preform very well. I've learned a lot and improved my typing skills with the company. I renewed all services that were offered, did the dealers work as well. Dealt with many imported vehicles, tricky scenarios, payed close attention to fraud, dealt with affidavits and much more. Service Ontario has taught me a lot and I'm very grateful for the opportunity they have given me. The hardest part of my job was dealing with a  death in the family and having to see the outcome of a situation when that family member had absolutely no proper papers, a will, a beneficiary etc... It become hard as most of the clients ended up in tiers, But we where able to calm them and give them all information necessary for them to obtain all proper documents with out having any hassles. The most enjoyable part of my job was dealing directly with the dealers and one of our big companies starks. What made it most enjoyable was the staff. They made the work experience an enjoyable one which made everyday pass quickly. That I thank them for.

A typical Day at Service Ontario would be going in at 8am working at a steady pace, mostly fast till 5pm.You serve customers by renewing Health cards, and anything to do with vehicle licensing renewals or registrations. I’ve learned many things through the past year and its been a great experience. My co-workers were helpful for answering questions and working as a team too make sure customer satisfaction and that the line up would go quick. Some days were very hard due to the amount of sick staff, so some days there would be just three people working. Management was very understanding when it came to Doctors appointments and Holidays, although at times it seemed Management was never there nor making sure the office was up to date with stock orders The hardest part of my job i would say is the customer service, I like to make sure my customer leaves the office with a smile on there face but customers would come in having the wrong documentation therefore there would be nothing i could do for them causing negative comments from the customer. Another was when our system would crash, but we were not allowed to close the office so customers would come in and we'd have to tell them our system is down.
I enjoyed the overtime of working there, the different work methods such as writing documents, using the computer, and answering the phone. I likes the salary and the tasks i would have to complete in a timely manner.

Typically a day of work at ServiceOntario involves management immediately building a case should they need to easily remove you from employment, due to there being a union agreement.
From there, management often walks by to remind team members that their performance dictates whether or not the Government will retain their services.
Management consists of usually 4-5 redundant positions that are constantly trying to justify their existence by routinely harassing staff, on the tax-payer's dime.  
I cannot comment on co-workers as none of us are permitted to speak to anyone else during work. Any and all interaction must flow through the managers.
The most enjoyable part of my job is the moment I walk out the doors at the end of my shift. 

Working at Service Ontario is a trade-off for good wages compared to a comparable job in some private sector businesses. The benefits, which are being constantly reduced and restructured by the employer, have become mediocre at best as coverage continues to be reduced and premiums increased each year.
Because this is a union job, upon hiring, management begins building a case against you, should the need every arise to terminate your employment easily. This creates an ongoing harassing and stressful work environment.

I couldn't recommend anyone with any skills or experience or education worth marketing to settle on a job at Service Ontario.

-Training was erratic at best and management expected you to know everything too soon
-LOTS of memorization with no written material available
-High turnover rate, constantly hiring due to bad management and highly stressful job
-Management loved to bring you into their office to yell and scream, instead of provide constructive criticism or show how things should be done.
-Rules CONSTANTLY changing, once you memorize one rule, you'll have to re-learn it and management does not accept mistakes
-Attention to tiny details, like one letter is expected
-Customers grumpy and rude, management no better
-Inconsistent training, one manager preferred work done one way, the other another way, lead to difficulties when owner came around and demanded another way it should be done!
-Stopped being paid after 5pm (closing time), even if customers were STILL in building. Had to service them all still without being paid.
-Overall: Frustrating environment with no professional growth, no benefits, minimum wage and lots of angry management/customers
-Would NOT recommend

The management team at the Division St. Service Ontario location in Kingston, since the arrival of new management in August of 2023,not only takes care of staff needs in terms of work-life balance, but fosters an environment conducive to personal and professional growth that I've yet to see during my thirty years of work in the public or private sector. Employees are given educational tools, resources and support that enables them to work in a cooperative manner without the typical micro-management expected when working in customer-service-related positions. Talent is recognized at all levels and used to streamline customer experience and improve delivery of essential services, but never at the expense of staff happiness and well-being. The level of care and empathy afforded to clients and staff alike make this particular employer stand out. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend someone and I would gladly go back if another opportunity presented itself at my level.

As with any company, working for Service Ontario requires going through a lot of red tape in order to do anything. After four months I still was unable to get an important piece of software on my computer due to the IT desk. Granted the building had only been moved in to a few months prior to my begin date, but having entire days with no network access is unacceptable.

Besides that, however, everything else was a positive experience. There were group lunches, many people looking out for one another, able to provide help, and meetings were more relaxed and enjoyable than anticipated. My pay was significantly lower than expected (minimum wage) and was 'not able' to be communicated to me until after two weeks of work. Supposedly that was also wrapped up in the red tape.

Regardless, I suggest looking towards a position with Service Ontario for any who would like to work with others to make a more efficient government, and enjoy learning a lot from their coworkers.

As employer, I worked individually and as a part of a team of 8 people in a multicultural environment. I daily greeted more than 60 clients and responded to general inquires related with the Ministry of Transportation and Health regulations in both official languages. I effectively used computers to introduce data and process transactions while managing confidential information demonstrating discretion, tact and professionalism in a high-volume client service environment. As part of my daily routine I effectively provided information, explained processes and responded to inquiries in person and by telephone related to vehicle registration, and driver license, plate stickers and health card renewals.

Experience in examining and verifying data, documents and photos
Obtain and input client information, processing invoices, monitoring the amount usage of stock used, collect and apply appropriate fees for different services rendered, and often have to explain, clarify and interpret policy and procedures to new and returning clients
Experience providing service in person to the general public in a fast-pace environment.Perform in clerical task such as multi-tasking, photocopying, form preparations, faxing, telephone inquiry and research vehicle identities. Co-workers are easy to work with. The most enjoyable part of the job is able to help customers to answer their questions.

a typical day at service ontario includes long line ups of men and woman needing to renew and apply for their drivers license and health cards, along with the registration and renewal of their vehicles. WIth help from the respectful and knowledgable management, I am able to understand the requirements for certain certificates, vehicles, transfers, etc and am now able to move through customers faster because of it. The hardest part of the job is having to assist customers who are upset and choose to raise their voice at you because occasionally they will not listen to what you have to say leaving the line held up and customers upset.

Fantastic people work at Service Ontario, we all work together as a team and help each out tremendously as we had to learn several new job profiles.
A typical day at work is to greet clients and ask how we may help them.
Ive learned to be more patient, to listen to what people want more.
Management is very helpful and will coach us on areas we may need or want improvement on.
The hardest part of the job is waiting for the next client to get to your counter. The numbering system doesnt allow for errors and after 2 minuntes the number goes back in the system.
