I had a disappointing experience working at Sherway Group due to the lack of work-life balance. Employees were often expected to handle demanding workloads with little consideration for personal time or well-being. The scheduling and work expectations made it difficult to maintain a healthy balance between work and life outside of the job.
Communication from management was not always clear, and there were times when expectations changed without sufficient notice. The work environment could be stressful, especially during busy periods, and there did not seem to be enough support available to help employees manage the workload effectively.
While I appreciate the opportunity to gain experience, I felt that employee concerns regarding workload and work-life balance were not given enough attention. I believe the company could improve by providing better support for staff, ensuring more reasonable expectations, and fostering a workplace culture that values employees' time both inside and outside of work.
Overall, my experience was not positive, and I would encourage prospective employees to carefully consider whether the work environment and expectations align with their personal and professional priorities.

Sherway Group primarily being a family owned business offers fantastic close knit group experience. Where majority of the employees at the company having been there for over 10 years. This meant everybody from all their 4 locations being more then just colleages.

A typical day at work would be from 8-5 with a 45 min break for lunch. Working there as a sales representative really had me learning other aspects of the logistic and warehousing industry that had nothing to do with sales. Which left me with a wealth of wonderful knowledge such as using truck mate and auditing rates to name a few.

The hardest thing about the job was definitely working in a totally new industry where I came in knowing little to nothing about tractor trailers and warehousing. Yet by the time I left I knew what sort of equipment we were running, estimating customer rates(including weekly fuel) and how the best method to get products from toronto out to the rest of Canada.

This new knowledge achieved through hard work was the most satisfying part about the job for me.All in all a pleasant experience gaining valuable experience as well as good friends.

Good work place a lot of overtime you will learn a lot of things if your a good worker but if your lazy you won’t last long From day one, it was clear that the management lacked both competence and concern for employee well-being.

Firstly, the training provided was insufficient and rushed, leaving me ill-prepared for the job's demands. Safety protocols were routinely ignored, putting both employees and equipment at risk. The work environment was chaotic and disorganized, with constant equipment breakdowns that delayed operations and added to the stress.

Furthermore, the company showed a complete lack of respect for work-life balance. Overtime was mandatory but rarely compensated adequately, leaving me feeling exploited and undervalued. Management's communication was also abysmal, with changes in schedules or procedures often conveyed at the last minute, causing unnecessary confusion.

Sherway / rock City were integrated into 1 business.  If they maintained the company as 2 separate entities it would have been better...they tried to the best of my knowledge.  Management was great and they hired from outside their company family values.   There was a G.M before I left and was promoted as GM.  Yes there are learning curves but isn't the best to teach your own child how to walk speak and talk about his castle his relatives made.   Everytime  we got someone else's son to try to fit the shapes in the blocks when your own son has been doing it for years

Im sure we know who the people should be in charge and the people who probably can lead their own company they learned to walk with 


Manage inbound/outbound TL/LTL traffic through outsourced freight company’s and company hired brokers.
Develop vendor relationships for all aspects of the operation. 
Implement and manage equipment, vehicle, building maintenance and tractor licensing.
Implement operational processes then analyze processes recommending improvements where needed.
Hire, train and manage dispatch supervisor, dock operations and company drivers.
Monitor operational costs with budgets meeting or exceeding targets.

Machines dying when there's a lot of work left to do

If desperately need experience and or like being underpaid and unappreciated, this is the job for you. I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere, personally this job made my life miserable.

A typical day at work is usually fast and has a lot of heavy lifting. Although, I really enjoy finishing the orders and keeping everything clean and organized. To add on, most of the other co-workers are very nice people.

Yo need to be able to follow every step to the smallest details to make sure your work is completed correctly. Had to wake up early to commute to work and from there wait to clock in. After work hard to complete certain tasks before our breaks. Then by the end of the day, clock out around 4 and go home

BAD PLACE TO WORK. Drivers are expected to wait 4-8 hours after their scheduled appts and then still get sent away because the don't have product. 
It is the most disorganized and mismanaged place I have ever worked in.
