Typical work day as a cook. Short staffed. The food you need to cook the meals is not present in the kitchen. The equipment is old and broken most of the time. Everyone working is bitter and angry. The dietary manager hires and promotes friends. Management cannot be trusted and always has a hidden agenda. The administrator retired but they replaced him with another employee that will retire soon. The dietary manager started as a dietary aid 40 years ago and is in way over their head. The company needs a complete management overhaul. Employees constantly complain about poor management and working conditions. By far the most frustrating job I’ve ever experienced

What is the best part of working at the company?
Other than the Residents being kind and sweet I would not ever work there again!!!!
Staff will stab you in the back in a heartbeat and there is no consistency in their training.
It's like working with a high school clique and I don't like playing mind games, I'm there to work !!!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No support and back stabbing co workers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poisonous. You are made to feel incompetent and are berated, yet you are expected to like it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Have a panic attack before you even walk through the door, get little to no information or communication as to what you are doing for the day and then try to do the impossible.

SPM is such a toxic work environment - management doesn't care for their employees at all, and most of the time it feels as if they don't care for the residents either. You are treated awfully, disrespected on a daily basis, working the worst hours all of the time because they are perpetually short-staffed, and management is incapable of handling extreme bullying situations, or simply even following labour laws. In the summer, you work in illegal heat conditions, and management won't even allow you to have your water bottle nearby. They are personally degrading, rude, careless, and target employees who speak up about it. Would recommend to stay far, far away from this place, and never allow your loved ones to live here.

Newly hired staff and part time staff get taken advantage of… used and abused. You’ll get scheduled every single weekend unless you book it off months in advance. Your days off are almost always split up so you can’t even fully recover. You’ll get a mix of morning, evening, and overnight shifts all within the same week, which is absolutely dreadful and causes burn out very quickly. Many of the RNs are rude and lazy and refuse to help with anything, and they’ll do it right in front of management but never get held accountable. I would not recommend working here. Even as a part time employee, it occupies your entire life due to the roller coast ride of up and down shifts in the same week. Get ready to be exhausted all the time. 

If you enjoy being bullied then this is the place for you. If you enjoy working your butt off for a place that doesn't appreciate their employees and has 0 compassion or respect for their staff this is the perfect place for you. If you enjoy working constantly short staffed due to poor management with no communication skills who are fire happy without cause then you'll love this place. If you enjoy working in total chaos and can put your head down and tolerate residents care being neglected then you'll do just fine here. 
Sad to see residents are the ones who suffer in the end. Not a place I'm proud to admit I worked for and not a place I'd ever consider putting a loved one.

If your resident focused and don't care about procedure and policy this is the place for you.  The residents appreciate your efforts but are to well aware of the management tactics that put policy and procedure on the back burner to ensure they get the results the are after. Your  nothing but a number to the company so if you can keep your head down all is fine if you try to make things proper or go above and beyond your done they have the union in there pocket so you are on your own....

The only reason to stay at this job is the residents.  The management are horrible to their employees unless they are lying back stabbers.   The overall atmosphere in the building at the beginning of any shift is complete dread, knowing that you are most likely working short. The training is minimal and having a criminal record doesn't seem to be a problem to get hired. The residents are the only ones that suffer as staff are afraid to report any incidents for fear of getting fired.  I would never allow a loved one to live in that home. The union works closely with management so no one is covering your back!

The staff...most were great ppl...the pay was great too...we were like a family...

Was great for awhile but being short staffed and over worked under paid changed that

Very toxic. Unhealthy and management is very unpleasant to deal with.

Residents living in the manor were lovely and that made it worth it. A typical day would be high stress and dealing with awful management.

Sherwood is a great place to work. The residents are very thankful to the staff and my co-workers work hard. Management can be tough, but they are fair; as long as you work hard and don't cause drama, you'll be fine. The nursing department is understaffed, but most similar facilities are understaffed in nursing. Sherwood is a not-for-profit nursing home, so they don't have as much money to spend as other larger homes.

Work can be stressful and very fast paced, but co-workers are usually there to help out.
