Shift Transit

Shift Transit was once a great place to work. For a time, I felt respected and appreciated. I was proud of Bike Share Toronto and their mission. This motivated me to make the workplace better and take on additional responsibility. After a short time, the extra effort was expected on a consistent basis and there was no recognition for it. After new management took over in 2019, the workplace became extremely hostile and toxic. Within a couple of months, nearly 1/3 of staff had walked out the door. Management abused their employees and took advantage of staff that were too afraid to complain. The few things that made working at Shift Transit enjoyable were quickly stripped away and within weeks of the new management starting, the workplace was a joyless, dirty, and often dangerous place to work. I wouldn't recommend a job at Shift Transit to anyone and if I ever come across anyone that worked in management at another job, I'll be running for the hills, no amount of money is worth it.

A typical day at work involved completing assigned tasks independently and ensuring work was finished on time. I learned responsibility, time management, and how to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Most coworkers were supportive, but my experience with management was disappointing.
The workplace culture was acceptable, although I felt employees’ concerns were not always taken seriously. The hardest part of the job was dealing with uncertainty regarding scheduling and communication. What ultimately led to my negative experience was that I requested two days off in advance, and instead of accommodating the request or discussing alternatives, I was laid off. I felt this was unfair and showed a lack of support and respect for employees. Based on my experience, management could improve communication and employee relations significantly.

Never knowing whats up because they dont know either

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very Indian and foreign despite business being in Canada

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Collect bikes and stress all day about how the executioner will discipline me everyday

Unprofessional team leads, there is no equality between workers, if your team lead doesn't like you with 'no reason' just personally, you can easily stay under psychological violence! Doesn't matter how hard you work. Doesn't matter you do a great job. Because work success is not the number one priority. On top of that, you wouldnt get paid properly!

I was hired by the previous management company, Motivate.  They were not perfect but they put together a good team of people that cared about the Bike Share program. Then Shift came in and tried to squeeze all the hourly workers out to save money. It worked, within a few months everyone either quit or was fired. Very sad to see.  The city messed up hiring Shift Transit.

exciting place to work as there are a lot of daily challenges and the company is nimble enough to make changes quickly. they really look after hard working employees and will make sure you are successful.

its a good place if you are a hard worker.

People in charge will hire their spouses and siblings over qualified candidates and then give them promotions too! If you're a woman your male counterpart with less experience will probably be making more money than you. The only thing I can say that was good about this place was a couple of the other people who worked there.

They don't care about there employees, very untrustworthy as well, sneaky!  Basically certain a certain person will look you straight in the eyes and tell you how good you are and then go to a o-worker and talk badly about you!

This was a great place to work until about halfway through 2019 when they brought on new management.

Now morale is gutted and management is very hostile towards workers. 

Could be good again in the future...who knows?

The field guys get a rough deal because of the nature of the contract the company has. The management seems to be doing the best they can. Basically all work tools are provided.
