Staff turn over is quite fast. I'm assuming employees are dissatisfied  with salary/benefits.  Work atmosphere is fine. Some home areas feel heavy because of staff's attitude towards work but workload itself is not so bad. Jumpstart orientation is provided for clear understanding of the newly hired staff and training/seminars are valued and provided in a regular basis for regular/part-time staff.  Management are hands-on with their duties and responsibilities, kudos to them! However, staff needs to feel valued and cared for.  There must be some sort of monthly commendation (a pat on the back) or a "best employee of the month" or "best home area of the month" award.

Please avoid working for this company! Job work/life balance is terrible because people are constantly quitting, so you tend to get called in everyday and asked to work extra hours. Salary is not great at all. Job security is absolutely terrible, as they decide to change your role at anytime. The management is the greatest concern of working there, and everyone seems to have an issue with management up to the HR department as well. Managers don't care about you, as they are too busy occupied trying to save the retirement home's money. Be prepared to get treated very poorly with no respect.

Great responsibility placed on Registered Nurse. If one is lucky to work with a nurse that is willing and able to teach you will have a great learning experience otherwise it can be more difficult to learn. Most enjoyable part of the job is the residents and the PSW staff on the floor. Hardest part is managing behaviours and working with unwilling team members.

Pay rate could be good. One particular tribe is ruling Silverthorn. Even management will join to abuse you. Too much unfairness. There is job insecurity.  The old staff are too aggressive. No one helps you if you are new. A horrible place to work. Staff quit because of ill treatment. It actually awful there.. 

I was a student nurse while at Silverthorn. The employees were excellent and quick to make me feel welcomed. My Preceptor was very patient with me during my placement. The staff were all wonderful with the Residents and provided great care to them. If it wasn't so far from my house, I definitely would have applied there after graduation.

Competitive hourly rate. Great management and staff. Ample training is offered to new employees - classroom orientation and three floor orientations are given to employees. Supportive staff. As there are 6 units in this facility, it would be nice to be trained on all units so new hires would have familiarity with all residents.

Silverthorn is a good place to work if you love being with Residents and knowing you are doing something good for people everyday.  The team members there are very supportive of each other which helps when the work is so fast paced.

It's a nice place to work Making a decision to work with this facility is a sound decision. The work load is light comparing to other community care facilities. I love to work with this company.

NUrses were extremely nice and helpful in my learning experience, facility was clean and nice to practice at. Overall really great experience, I really loved practicing here.
