From the moment i walk into a classroom I need to be on my game. I need to be flexible, understanding and firm. I learned that children have a home life and that sometimes what is going on at home can effect them in the classroom. I learned that not all children learn the same and as a result I have leaned how to alter my lessons to suit the needs of my students.
The most difficult part of the job is trying to keep all students interested and focused. I have learned that the best way to do this is to be flexible and make the lessons fun and engaging.
The best part of the job is seeing the look on the students face when they accomplish/understand a concept that they have been struggling with. Their pride and self esteem go through the roof and you can see it in the big smile on their face.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Teaching the students, if youre able to ignore all the ridiculous politics and others who have no idea what you're doing telling you how to do your job, then it is great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The constant babysitting and lack of trust from the employer. Teachers used to be respected, now you are guilty until excessively proven innocent.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. If it was easy to transfer to another board I would be gone in a heart beat.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They are wonderful , forward thinking, offer many professional workshops and chances for advancement. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Just the usual with teaching- planning lessons, learning increased technology and of course evaluation and writing written reports 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment in most schools is very good. Of course it all depends on who is “ leading the ship” in the school. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fast paced and usually exciting.

I have supplied for 3+ years, as a DECE. Advancement is hard. 
I have applied to many jobs. Received one interview. There is a A, B , C list and it is quite hard to get onto the B. 
I have worked in one school for longer than 4 months (which if hired as an LTO for 4 months min, you can be put into the LTO hire list- aka the B list) but I was considered an occasional supply the whole time while the school waited to have to post a position and hire from the A and B lists. 
Where this was a favour to me to keep me in the position, I ended up being bumped out after Christmas. 
Loved the time I spent, and gained much experience and contacts throughout the year.

Best job I have had in my lifetime.  Great co-workers, managers, all staff.  I assisted the special education department with administrative duties, work overflow.  ISA project for special education.  

It was a pleasure to go to work each day, and I tried to get on after assignment discontinued, but couldn't .  Wish I could get back there, the atmosphere at the education centre is wonderful.  You feel each day that you've accomplished something important.  Education is one of the most important things in our community, and I was proud to be a part of it .

I enjoy being a supply EA and DECE because I get to choose where I can go and who I work with. The variety allows me to interact with different students and teachers and I feel that I am receiving a great learning experience. By supplying, I am introduced to different students with all kinds of behavioural and developmental challenges and I welcome the challenge and experience of working with new students all the time. I am always welcomed by the staff in the schools and treated as an equal.

It was a great job, if you can keep your head down. There is lots of politics, and drama that can begin. If you want to climb up the ladder, have patience. The politics took a toll on myself, and how the standard of clean is not for all across the board. Depends how long youve been at the board, you can barley clean and still have your job. While the 'newer' employees have to clean up after. Lots of different dynamics.

A great way to get your foot in the door. Be prepared for zero training as you step into the schools to fill in! Learn as you go process. Most of the other staff are pretty accommodating and patient. The beginning of the school day is hectic, half my shift spent on attendance records. A lot of interruptions between students, parents, teachers etc. Every school does things a little differently, so be prepared to be flexible. Overall, been a great experience.

Full benefits, same scheduled shift all the time, weekends off, proper breaks

Being alone in schools at night time

Depends on the school and other staff within the building

Amazing I have a great group of people to work with

The best part about working for the SCDSB is that I have been very lucky to encounter very helpful coworkers.

uncertainty of contract renewal.
