This place really needs to be investigated by the labour board. 

The operations manager is a profound moron who makes her decisions based on impulse and emotion. The supervisors are a mirror image of their clueless leader. The union that is supposed to protect us is about as strong as a wet tissue. It’s a very seniority based environment however management seems to pick and choose who benefits from it. Do you have a family? Simmons is your family now. Average of 12 hour shifts, sometimes at six days a week. Usually around August - November they will do mandatory overtime. They don’t care if were run over by a train or at your grandfathers funeral, if you don’t show up for your overtime shift you will be written up. If you have one sick day out of an otherwise perfect attendance you will get a written warning about your attendance problem.  They won’t cross train you on the machinery so repetitive strain injuries are a common occurrence for some workers. Their idea of “safety training” is showing you the same series of outdated DVDs once a month. All the windows are boarded up so there is no natural lighting and it gets pretty cliquey amongst your comrades. 

A lot of the factory workers are newcomers to Canada and they are 100% being taken advantage of by this company. There are better employers.

The only things this company seems to do well on are as follows:

- You aren’t really micromanaged. The supervisor will make their rounds about every hour or two to make sure everything is okay and they will go back to watching YouTube in their office.

- You get a decent  benefit package.

- You usually get weekends and long weekends off. 

- You’re looking at a minimum of $20/hour with incremental wage increases every year. That wage increase is generous five cents so enjoy. 

Ultimately you need to run away from this place. Run fast.

We (3 men) loaded up to 600 mattresses per day some of which weighed up to 115 kgs (250 pounds). 
Learned an updated shipping/receiving system exclusive to SIMMONS. 
Co-workers were hard-working and compatible.
Foremen treated me well, were encouraging and grateful.
When in Packaging we packaged up to 500 mattresses per day and stacked them on pallets and though this was no easy feat we took pride in our accomplishment.
Did bi-annual inventory.
Replenished raw materials throughout the warehouse when required as well as re-stocked the wrapping machine.
Inspected every piece for damage before packaging to ensure quality product.
Most enjoyable part of the job was providing a good quality mattress to a happy customer.

I never feel an hardest part as I am multitask and challenge work as a part of my trade

Pay was good, The management was well organized, the people and culture there was positive.  I enjoyed working in the department i was trained work as well as other departments, because the people were for the most part flexible and accommodating.  

Over all the greatest work experience i have had thus far.

started my career as a machine operator.graduated to senior machine operator within ten years.i was promoted to lead hand which included coordinating various assingments within the warehouse such as shipping and receiving and general warehouse duties,class2 certified forklift operator since 1996

Horrible company culture, morale, management. Te positives were wage, benefits and indoors. Union was horrible as well. People make a company great and at Simmons, the people were mostly awful and the management was worse.

My work is never really hard since I work as the lead hand. I learned many things from surging panels to getting work done on time using teamwork. The environment is great, and people are nice. The best part of my job is the pay check every Friday!

great benefit and salary,but work is stressful and some coworkers are not nice,the union has power in the plant,but the bad thing is some workers took advantage of the union and the benefit

I learned about invoicing and filing and checking invoices for product received from vendors, did learn some human resources work. The people were okay and I did learn a lot from them. I learned a new program called citrix.
