Honestly I was excited to start this job and then I started realizing how lousy this company is. They make it seem like they care but really they don’t. 
This company is very emotionally and mentally abusive towards all staff members. 
They hire lousy contractors with the lowest bid to do band aid fixes in all their buildings. 
If a tenant complains about a repair and you schedule a contractor and then the contractor doesn’t show up, you get it from the tenant and head office never backs up their on site staff. They pay you 28,000$ as a Resident Manager or 9,600$ as a Assistant Resident Manager. You work 95.5 hours and get paid 15th and 30th of the month. 
They don’t care if you get sick or have to take time off for more than 4 months they’ll just fire you or threaten too unless you are the favourite employee and kiss their butts
They want more rent from tenants but literally only cosmetically fix buildings. They have to keep their Tesla’s fuelled up you know. You’ll get farther in the company if you kiss butt to the big wigs. 
They literally are the lowest paying property management company so STAY AWAY. 
I don’t know how they ever got best employer cause they are the worse. They don’t give maternity leave so if you are young and want a family don’t work here. 
If you want something you need to constantly ride your property managers butt because they lie all the time. They just want money and numbers. They shouldn’t even be in the property management industry. They charge ridiculous prices for rent for falling apart units unless it’s the newer buildings. 

Here’s a tip for head office, if you don’t want such a high turnover rate from your employees maybe actually treat them like human beings and pay a decent wage. Can’t expect a top dollar work environment with less than minimum wage pay. You all sit at head office and think you have a hard job but the people who LITERALLY keep the money to flow in your pockets is not paid fairly.

If you're looking for a company which is succeeding in its space, Skyline is definitely thriving. This company has been expanding year over year, giving a lot of opportunities to grow, learn, and feel a part of the contributions. The company owners are salt-of-the-earth kind of guys - talking to anyone, not sitting in an ivory tower. You can tell they care about growing the company with ESG principles, employee morale, and company culture in mind. While the pandemic has impacted many companies in those key categories, they did a lot to ensure they connected with employees from coast to coast to make sure they felt part of Skyline. If you're looking for a place that gives you autonomy, enjoy learning and growing through the ranks - this place would be a great place to work.

The challenges with a quickly growing company are ensuring adequate resources and systems are in place to deal with growth. They have recently hired a VP of Operations to assist with this, and there is hope that the company will put systems in place to grow in a less clunky method. New/existing employees may have to be okay with a more dynamically changing work environment until processes are figured out. A positive is that if there are recommendations on how to make the process better, the company is collaborative in nature. It is open to hearing feedback, and senior leadership is willing to advocate for better processes. So if you are okay with a bit of dynamic change but want to be part of helping to make things better - you will succeed very well at this company.

Caveat: I left this role two years ago and I've heard some improvements have been made since.

It was admin heavy. Tons of processes that needed to be followed properly, which I'm good at but didn't find particularly stimulating. Could be very stressful depending on the properties/regions you were assigned (would be dealing with different levels of complaints, tenant turnover, site staff, property managers etc.) Unless you want to become a property manager there's not a lot of upward movement available  - I ended up moving into a different department instead, then left the company. Monthly free company lunches are nice. Pay is low for PMA, admin or entry jobs (according to myself and others I spoke to at the time). Unsure about pay in higher level roles. 

Skyline is expanding quickly and there was often a feeling that the growth was happening too fast for the actual operations to catch up. They're always hiring, due to that and the fact that there's fast turnover in this department and in a few others (e.g. accounting clerks). Management is trying to change but it'll take time. It's a good place to get a few years of experience under your belt but honestly, unless you are passionate about the industry and want to move up in real estate or rentals, this role is not the place to be for too long.

Work life balance i very difficult and it is discouraged to make friends/ put of work connections within the complex/ buildings to avoid favoritism. The hours are long, yet if you enjoy being busy then the work is pleasant. You use a variety of skills on a daily basis and the base routine is the same there are always different challenges to learn from. The training material is very extensive and useful on a day to day basis and i appreciate the fact its available at any time to look back on, is comprehensive and easy to read and covers almost any situation.
At times it can easily become overwhelming if you do not have a strong connected team or suddenly become short staffed. 
I would not suggest taking this job if it is your only income or are a single perosn as the wages provided in cash are very minimal.  The benifits and accommodations are nice, but if you have many expenses or are providing for more than one perosn on this income alone it will become very challenging very quickly. 
Skyline as a whole is a very good company and provides many benifits for its employees, but if you are only wanting to reap the benefits you see on paper youbwill not be happy as and employee.

Having worked for many other Residential Property Management companies, Skyline Group of Companies is honestly second to none. They put faith in their teams and Leaders and provide us the tools needed to be successful in our positions and to better the communities we operate in. Although Skyline is growing at a very quick pace, they have not lost sight in their core values and what is important, which is their staff and ensuring that we always do the right thing. Just as any other Residential Property Management company, it can be very hectic and stressful at times, but if you are a hard worker and want to be valued, Skyline is definitely the place to begin or continue your career. Each team member, no matter the position, is just as important as another, so everyone is properly and continually trained and provided support and opportunities for growth. If you want to be part of an amazing team of people and provide the best service to the residents in your community, then we want you to come and join us!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people everyone is friendly and helpful. Upper management started out doing the field work, so they know the company from the ground up. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are some people that are hard to please and may think the resident managers and support people do not know anything. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For the most part work environment is great most of the tenants are friendly and pleasant to be around. The culture is good keep a smile on your face and make people feel welcome and heard. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering emails in the morning, check any missed calls. Check for maintenance requests and make sure they have been addressed within 24 hours. Cleaning of common areas, and outside the buildings doing a full walk around. Check available units that they are rent ready. Do log books fire safety, water pump and pressure checks and record readings. In winter time you have snow removal check and make sure contractors have done their jobs. Also salting areas for ice dangers.

Very clicky cimpany. Was hired 3 yrs ago as an assistant manager. Spent first 3 months doing nothing but cleaning buildings and units. Resident manager quit so i was asked to take over while they looked to hire someone. 11 months later that finally happened. I spent 11 months doing all the office work, cleaning, minor maintenance and doing the monthly socials for the tenants. Within 2 weeks of the new hire it became obvious i was going to be forced out. Had my hours and duties changed with no warning. A staff meeting became a verbal reprimand. Told my cleaning wasnt to pare even with compliments from tenants to head office. Tenants told property manager that new hires were rude and threatening but nothing was done. Turns out they are related to property manager.
Spent 4 days installing new light bulbs and smoke alarms only to be called into office ant end of the day to be fired...no cause. And 7 days to move. Very cold uncaring company.

Skyline Living does not care about the health and safety of employees. You are on-call 24/7 365 days with no overtime payment nor compensation for being on-call. You are expected to meet leasing deadlines when there is someone else being well-paid to do the job. HR has no clue what they are doing and their investigations are poorly done, nothing is confidential. Property managers change every few months as the job is stressful, they are just puppets to the Regional Directors. Building are poorly inspected and the fire alarms are not monitored. There is no security cameras on site so if something happens, good luck trying to get any footage. I suggest you look for other options. The pay sucks because they give you a 100% discounted apartment but then they own your life and there is no personal time. They are also not practicing any social distancing COVID 19 rules when it comes to staff meetings so you may want to consider if risking your health is worth it. Staff is constantly going on stress leave.


1. Each day is slightly different, my day starts with sending positive greetings to my team. Completing regular tasks as per SOP and being available to supervisors, to the team, other departments, and customers. Responding to emails, communicating with customers, and supporting the team directly. 2. I learned that time management is the key to being efficient and successful, and active listening to others. 3. Our workplace culture is positive and collaborative – supervisors encourage teamwork, positivity, and trust, which promote productivity, and growth.  Skyline recognizes and encourages good working practices, relatable values, a supportive atmosphere, and a culture of trust. 4. Dealing with events that you can not control 5. Accomplish tasks successfully, help customers, listening your team and give them support when they need, have positive impact on other people and have an opportunity to help and the same time meet expected goals.

A typical day at worked involved cleaning the common areas of the building; assisting manager with support staff, viewings of available apartments, answering the telephone when covering for the manager 24 hrs/day, and assisting tenants with immediate concerns and emergencies.
What I learned was time management and problem-solving as I often worked alone on weekends or week days when the managers had the day off. My resources were often called upon. I honed my interactions with all kinds of personalities and sharpened my people skills
The hardest part of my job was staying motivated despite making very little money. It was a very demanding job in many ways and I was very responsible and the pay was not reflective of this.
The most enjoyable part of my job was interacting with many lovely tenants every day. Serving them and making their residence more homey was an honour.
