It takes a while to get to know all the routes which in my belief takes longer than 3 months to learn and get used to.. after 3 months I was still lost which took me near twice the time to get my routes done... other than that it was a learning experience that I wouldn't mind trying again someday but under a different company.

For 6 years, I busted my butt working for Smithrite, got given opportunities to shine, and shone through them all, with efficiency and safety

my girlfriend's jealous ex husband falsified a report to head office, saying I was smoking pot on the job, which I was not, but because there is no science to say how much, or how long ago, I was mercilessly removed from employment with no severance or chance to go on short term leave, to quit smoking - which was legally required due to my medical assessment of being a marijuana use disorder sufferer (I smoke and it no longer affects me) 

since then, I've quit smoking, but, the sting of betrayal and lack of trust from management is sickening

Half the fleet is comprised of old broken / bandaided trucks that are driven for the most part, by guys who have no truck etiquette (slobs), and can't drive.

If you like driving /sharing  3-5 different trucks a week and being the forefront of the company when it comes to dealing with issues that should be fixed by sales/ management, then this is the perfect job for you!

I used to work there when there was a lot of overtime, since it has changed hands I am hearing from old co-workers that the over time is slim to none.

Also, good luck booking any sort of vacation time.

It was a great company for the time i spent there Dispatch was amazing along with customer service reps. I went through 4 bosses over 4 years & they were all very helpful & supportive to this position. The owner of the company runs it as a family business & it felt that way. I never would have left Smithrite Disposal but as they sold out to GFL and times where changing so did I.

Worked here for almost 3 years I got 1 raise. In 2 years I never got 5 consecutive days off maximum 2 in a row. Always heard we didnt have coverage.
Got sent up hills in the snow that was unsafe and told I either do it today or I'm doing it tomorrow.
My life was irrelevant while working all that mattered was the route.
No over time pay straight pay isnt even legal. I stayed for the crew great team terrible company.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Management doesn’t care about your health. After your finish clearing your route then you  would go help out clearing down routes. They don’t appreciate your work ethic. If you tell them that you can’t help out cause your tired and sore.  They will talk behind your back. They don’t appreciate when you do help.  I would never recommend working here to anyone.

Start your day at your truck, do a pre trip, drive out to your route, start pickup, work at your leisure (as fast or slow as you want as long as it gets done. Thats the typical day. Fairly hands off management style. Coworker culture can be fairly toxic on occasion.

If you have the ability to work and strive on your own this is a great place to work.  There is little supervision as you are managing yourself and yet still part of a team environment.  Days can be long but that is all based on your work ethic, however traffic patterns are a key factor as well at times.

great place to work. Good management. good wages and benefits.
they are willing to work with you around your family needs. when you first start working there you will be working afternoon and weekends.

Great job fun always different but very unsafe. Shop manager refuses to fix major issues on work trucks and lots go out daily unsafe. Work or get fired is the motto
